Hi Andrew ! Thanks for your clear instructions . Here is my sentences . 1- He has paid for alcoholism for 15 years. He is very weak now . 2- I have paid off my debt to the bank for this Mercedes. 3- The insurance company paid me out after I had a labor accident. 4 - John, pay up / give me back the money you borrowed me last month to buy a jacket. 5- John paid back the money I gave him last month to buy jackets. 6- I paid for the SUV in installment over 10 years /I bought this SUV in installment mode for 10 years. 7- I am entitled to a pension because I have paid into the retirement fund during my working time. 8. Every month, I set aside $ 100 to pay down the car's debt.

In 2 I might say 'He has paid for his alcoholism for....' Everything else looks great!

Thank you very much for this video. I subscribed already to this channel. I find these videos very useful to improve my English or to keep praticing it. This is the first time I post a comment in this channel. I'm from Mexico where the police are usually payed off! Hehe I enjoyed this example, though! BTW I lived for 2 years in Canada. I studied in Ottawa from 2000 to 2002. It was an unforgettable and magnificent experience.

Both are possible but in my area of the world (Canada), pay for the damage is the most common way.

Thank you very much sir, I've got a grammar question if you could clarify it. In the example you gave I'm paying for having smoked for 20 years . I couldn't figure out if this perfect participle " having smoked " in the sentence " for having smoked for 20 years" means he's still smoking until now or he quit smoking??

Haider Aliraqi, that's a great question. Actually, without any more context, it wouldn't be clear whether the speaker is still a smoker or not. Hopefully, the person would have by now given up but humans are irrational beings ;-)

The phrase 'to pay someone a visit' would not be considered a phrasal verb. I'd call it an idiom.
