Phoenix Point Guide: Cybernetics

Ойындар

Anu looks at the Pandoran invaders and thinks that by adopting some of their biology and abilities, mankind may yet endure.
New Jericho and Synedrion however, they're more in the steel and titatium school of thought and offer you a way to upgrade your soldiers with cutting edge cybernetic components.
In this video, we explore those options, analyse their relevance, and I give some of my thoughts on their value.

One key thing you didn't mention. The Neural Torso is the only cybernetic chest that allows for mounted weapons or arms. This means that a Technician can use it and carry loads of turrets and heavy weapons, such as a Grenade launcher, flame thrower etc. He is also a handy mule to carry off any loot on scavenging missions as he doesn't need to collect the turrets afterwards.

Yeah, that's my biggest issue with the Juggernaut Torso. It's very much a Heavy torso, yet it lacks the ability to attach mounted weapons. I'd understand not being able to mount arms, but the laser mounted weapon is worth its weight in tech on anyone that can use it. Sure, it has slightly higher armor, but it's simply a worse long-term option than NJ's Heavy's torso armor. Certainly, less of a penalty to accuracy, but that can be fixed fairly easily with both helmets and leg mutations.

So a long time ago, back when each faction had a different spin on each advanced class (we are talking concept art pre backer build one here), synedreon used to be the melee stealth faction. Their infiltrators were duel weilding ninja. Where as new jericho infiltrators would be more of the crossbow units we have now. I think the synedreon torso is a remnant of that.

Night vision mutation grants the ability to detect enemies at normal range on night missions and some dark maps, such as tunnels. It also allows you normal opportunity fire ranges. Otherwise mobs can see you before you see them and shoot outside your opportunity fire range, which can be devastating. It's similar to the tech that mounts on your head to see in the dark.

Here to make a case on the propeller legs. Not sure if it was the case back when the video launched but it DOES allow for you to jump on top of buildings (just jumped a 3 store building on my last mission) and it does provide great mobility for assaults which can use two dashes and two jumps to basically cross the map. Also, it does cover the same distance as a dash (albeit in a straight line and can be blocked by trees and such) with only 2 will power cost, which is a great case altogether.

Started my first playthrough on Veteran, I'm pretty damn far at this point, and it's been an ugly, certainly mistake riddled run so far, but I think I still have victory within my grasp. The only cybernetics Ive built so far is the tier 2 torso and leg cybers on an infiltrator. Honestly? I've had alot of success with that soldier. Having dash and the rocket leap is pretty huge, you can cover alot of ground, and almost nothing can stop you. 1 AP for a jump up to a great shooting point, 2 for the shot, 1 to jump back down into dense cover. The armor from the torso works well at keeping her alive, and the carry weight means any time there's ever a carry weight issue, she's right there to compensate, able to swap items for free and everything. After viewing this, however, I'm definitely considering the synedrion cyber torso. The only reason I didn't yet was, honestly, because I completely agree with your take on it's look. Why TF would they design a pointless cavity under the chest? Seriously you couldn't have put anything there? Armor plate? Hell just a pouch to carry stuff? Just seems weird and looks weird, but I cant deny the benefits.

I'm not sure if it's because things have changed since this video or not, but now (writing in October 2021), I *love* the propeller legs. They can absolutely be used to get your soldiers up to higher levels. and they only use 1 AP as opposed to the 3 of the jetpack, so they're great for snipers and heavies, who can often jump up to a vantage point and shoot in the same turn. They're also slightly cheaper in WP than Dash (2 vs 3), handle changes in elevation better and are not even that much worse on flat land, so can even be useful for assaults - if you only need to move 10 squares for that melee attack but dash will give you up to 14, save yourself a will point! No ladder around? No problem! Honestly, other than the torso piece that lets you melee attack for 1 AP, the propeller legs are my favourite bit of "armour".

A few things regarding the Year One Edition (specifically the version before Festering Skies): - Rocket Jump DOES work from goo now; - Propeller Legs CAN jump from goo now, CAN get to first-floor heights, and the range is roughly similar to Assault's Run, making them very useful on many builds that don't involve an Assault multiclass - especially melee builds; - Neural Torso gives any class the option to use heal-arms (for the base 2AP, but still massively useful, especially early on to replace medkit usage) and can accommodate mounted weapons (mind you, only use it for such if the solider has the associated perk, but the laser mounted weapon is amazing and fairly economical long-term, though for a steep upfront tech cost). Late game, my Assaults typically have 6+ weapons, sometimes even more, so that Heavy Lifter is very useful. Furthermore, Technican gear is heavy (especially if you like having multiple turrets) - this cybernetic enables a starting Technician to be fully kitted without investing in strength. High tech cos, sure, but not that much more than the TechOps torso, which is strictly worse than the Neural Torso. Cheers!

I recently realized that the Combat Shield is always out when it's in an active slot, even if it's not actually active: It's on the soldier's back, providing protection against fire. This makes it more useful than the Energy Shield that only exists when deployed. I'll see about equipping all of my troops with them just for that turtle shell on the back next time, I think. Now I wonder about using both at the time time, though... Combat Shield always on the back, Energy Shield in front.

Found Tier2 cybernetic propeller leg augmentation useful only once on a soldier without jet pack of heavy chest armour. In the Pandoran Lair mission where there are terrain blockade spots, which prevent all foot soldiers from crossing over to access adjacent areas, the short distance hop from the propeller legs overcomes the blockade. The shortcut was useful in that lair mission to reach the Spawnery bypassing detours infested with Pandorans. A team of soldiers all equipped with jet packs may be more efficient in lair missions.

With the rocket legs you can jump to height and still rattle off a sniper round, or multiple handgun rounds in one turn which makes them valuable for avoiding worms for e.g.

Something worth mentioning about the neural torso is the fact that it can hold a mounted weapon (the description of the item says this, I know rather ideotic to put it there and not in the stats page). It can be very useful for your main assault sniper since you can reduce the action cost by one an just shoot for free with the mounted weapon; pair this with the super accurage laser mount and you have easy damage on a target for free.
