You also have to remember that Brian trained for titles not records. He even said that he’s not focused on breaking any records and that if they happen as a result of doing well in a competition then that’s that. People should not be assuming that had Kazmaier, been allowed to take part in those years he was kept away from World’s Strongest Man, that he would have just turned up and won.Sure Kazmaier might have won more if he was there but he wasn’t.It is not unreasonable to say Kazmaier could have won at least one more title during his absence.But then again Kazmaier could have been invited and tore a muscle or had some other significant injury happen, and not even finish the competition.We will never know for sure.As sad as that is because us fans, definitely missed out on some of his best potential years in strongman competitions.

    The problem is I think he, by concept and nature, cannot be the best Strongman ever. He competed in the younger days of WSM and Strongman contests, when events were experimented with and guys weren't even Strongman by title. He was ahead of his time, like with what happens with the early days of every sport, but you can't say his dominance paralleled Big Z's or Brian Shaw's success by any means. You can't consider a high-schooler great if their competition is middle-schoolers. Just because he was a step ahead of the comp, doesn't mean that he's on the same level as the modern Strongmen that have been the same.

    Zydrunas always impressed me so much. The sheer longevity...it's one thing to be an elite athlete for a handful of years. But 20+ years at or near the top of your discipline? Balancing raw power with your health in such a way that you can keep on and on like a machine? That's what impresses me. For me there are two names that stand out, against many worthy contenders in terms of sheer brute strength - Kaz and Big Z, They had the right mix of consistency as in, no truly week events. plus the ability to blow everyone away on their favourite disciplines, which tended to be static, so I would argue a purer way to gauge ultimate strength. Out of the two, I would go for Big Z for his amazing longevity at the very top, plus the sheer joy of watching him press over head!

    In no particular order: Bill Kazmaier. The only man to have been too strong for WSM... he won 3 titles and probably could have done another 4 or 5 on top of that if he was allowed to compete. Plus he set powerlifting records before his WSM career that lasted a long, long time, and his margin of victory in WSM is still the biggest sweep in the history of the sport. Big Z. The most decorated strongman of all time... 8 Arnold's classic wins and 4 WSM wins and many others, the dude is a monster. He is to the logpress what Eddie Hall is to the deadlift; he has absolutely insane shoulder power -- with a record that is still safely his -- and also still surprisingly versatile across the board. Eddie Hall. It was basically this man's job for 5 years to break world records. He broke the deadlift world record multiple times, first man to deadlift 500kg and did it far before anyone else, and has the axle OHP world record as well. I truly believe that 2017 Eddie was one of the strongest, if not THE strongest, human to ever walk the planet. He had the mindset, the speed, and the strength, both upper and lower body, to overcome anything in a strongman contest. Hafþór Björnsson. Won every one of the big name strongman contests in a single year, got the 501kg deadlift, placed podium at WSM so many times, and even gave Brian and Big Z a run for their money as a newcomer at WSM when those two were at the peak of their rivalry. He was so well rounded in his prime that whether it was pulling, lifting, or throwing, he would have done exceedingly well. Brian Shaw. Anyone who can rival Big Z needs to be given a spot in this. Plus with 4 WSM titles and 4 Arnold classic wins, he is more than that rivalry. He has dominated WSM by appearing in more finals than any other competitor in history, and like Eddie, basically broke world records for a living. Mariusz Pudzianowski. The man won 5 WSM titles, something that 4 other people -- 2 of whom are on this list -- chased so desperately but could not achieve. He might not have been the best deadlifter, but he was still plenty strong in other lifts, crazy fast, and had the toughest mindset ever in strongman.

  • @DutchDread
    @DutchDread3 жыл бұрын

    People may call me a fanboy, but strongest I am going to go with Thor when he did 501, when Eddie did 500 he was a deadlift monster, as he's always been, but it was obvious that this was not something he could sustain, he wasn't equipped to handle that weight and strength. But when Thor won WSM, the arnolds, WuS, he was just a titan of a man. He at that point was insanely strong at everything, able to compete with the top in any discipline while still maintaining a semblance of speed and athleticism. He was just what I'd expect an all-round strongest man to be, and it's just a shame that he quit when he did because of all of the nonsense. Greatest? I am going with Brian Shaw purely for everything he's done for the sport, he doesn't just have longevity, but he his basically the father of current day WSM imo, the leader, the face, whatever you want to call it.

    Eddie Hall as strong as he undoubtedly was, simply cannot be in the conversation.He just hasn’t won enough top international strongman competitions as these other top guys.Just a single win and third place at World’s Strongest Man, and no top three placing at The Arnold Strongman Classic.Eddie Hall is great because first to lift a strongman deadlift of 500kg, which was a significant increase on the previous strongman deadlift world record.But several strongman competitors have better overall wins and records in top international strongman competitions than he has.

    This. For all his intensity and clear potential to compete at the highest level for a while longer (maybe not that long cause he looked ill, he was so big), he bowed out. Were it not for the 500kg lift, the Thor beef and his move into presenting he'd not necessarily be forgotten already but certainly a foot note. That's why Thor doing the 501 then announcing the fight and bowing out of strongman was such a massive pysche-out move from Hall. Hall managed to diminish the massive accomplishments of Thor and goad him away from probably picking up at least one more WSM title by constantly having the two be compared. When of course there's absolutely no comparison. Three ASC wins compared to none, one WSM win and seven podiums compared to one win and one podium, five europe's strongest man versus none.

    You have a fair point regarding Eddies lack of wins, and as it stands your right that it diminishes his record. But I think its worth pointing out, that had he not badly damaged his hand in the 2016 WSM, he could potentially of won. He was also only 29 when he retired in 2017, so potentially had a good few years at his peak, and possibly some more wins? those are ifs, buts and maybes, But what is objectively correct, Eddie in static events, was by quite a margin, stronger than 4x WSM winner Brian Shaw. My point being, Eddie still stands out as a strength monster, even without a better competition win record.

  • @shepchester3567

    @shepchester3567

    3 жыл бұрын

    @Hidde de Roos Nobody can say with complete certainty, what would of happened in 2016, had Eddie not damaged his hand. or indeed if he had carried on competing for a few more years? And I completely agree that, certain events would defiantly put Eddie at a disadvantage, also injuries have always played a big part in how and who, ultimately wins. However my point still stands, i.e. he did enough in pressing, squatting and particularly deadlifting, to show that at his best, he could compete with, and beat some of the strongest men that ever lived, including Shaw, Big Z and Thor. There are many ways to consider the the greatest strongmen of all time, and success in competitions is legitimately one of them, but not the only way. So whilst I'm not suggesting he is the greatest ever (for me its Big Z) he should be in the conversation amongst several others, who have pushed the limits of strength, in one way or another.

    Kaz for me. I think you do have to analyze strongman feats through the lens of their era. We don't know how good Kaz would be if he competed now, but we know that he was untouchable by his contemporaries. Everyone in a set time period would have had access to that time period's training methods and nutrition, so the fact that Kaz was that much better than the people of that period proves how good he was. @Darth Dredd The problem is about amount of competitions. When Brian went big-time, he stayed at the big-time events. More international guys like Thor could just go and win a Europe's, Britian's, or Iceland's Strongest Man no problem because he's head and shoulders above them. Of course Brian could go and do some of those events as well, but there's no point when he could keep his rest up and train for the more important shows. Just like how Big Z has won over 300 competitions, yet probably 90% or more of those don't really matter. Lithuania's Strongest Man really doesn't matter because he's the only guy that's consistently at a pro level, and all of the others are small or moderate shows that big-time guys like Z shouldn't compete in. No knock on him, but filling a trophy room with stuff that is basically filler to him is not really it.
