First of all, thank you for reacting to one of Phil's songs that isn't, 'In The Air Tonight!' 😁 This is one of the album tracks from his mid 80's album, 'No Jacket Required', which planted him very firmly as one of the icons of the 80's pop scene! It'd be great if you did a few more, 'deep cuts', from his album, such as, 'All Of My life', 'Father To Son', 'We're Sons Of Our Fathers', 'Lorenzo', 'Oughta Know By Now', 'Come With Me', just to name a few.

Glad you’re back. I’m with you, I definitely prefer his fast and his angry songs. Haven’t ever heard this one, but I like it

Great to see you back with some Phil Collins. When you get to Take me Home, I think there two live possibilities. One from the “serious tour” in 1990 or from the “first farewell tour” in 2004. both are fantastic

Both versions are great. I personally prefer the “Serious Hits” live version.

Leland Sklar's COVID lockdown bass session of this song tells a lot of the story here. (kzread.info/dash/bejne/jHuIrqp8n7zJYbg.html) In short, Daryl Stuermer wrote this song and brought it to the "No Jacket" sessions as "F Song." (Daryl later released the instrumental version in "F" on his 1988 solo debut album "Steppin' Out." That you should listen to, if you can obtain it. Along with Mr. Sklar's bass cover.) Phil took the key down to E Flat and added lyrics. It would not surprise me if the lyrics were improvised, like "In the Air Tonight", "Don't Lose My Number", etc. Certainly by 1984 Phil's personal life was not as tumultuous as it once was (he married Jill Tavelman while recording "No Jacket.") So although the song echoes the raw emotions over relationship collapses on "Face Value" and "Hello, I Must Be Going" (and has a more manifest element of disappointment), I don't see any overt inspirations from Phil's persona life. As far as I know (and I've been listening to Phil Collins for more most of my life), Phil never performed it live-although Leland Sklar seems to remember otherwise. At least, I haven't seen it on any of the set lists. This would be an epic song to perform live-especially to open a concert. A "one, two, three, four" count in on drum sticks....boom. "No Ticket Required" is the name of the official video from the tour that accompanied the No Jacket Required album and I guess if you want a flavour of how Phil was playing the tracks live at that time then that's the obvious choice to get live versions of the songs from that album. 1985 versions of One More Night, Don't Lose My Number, Take Me Home and more are there for your viewing pleasure. Other tracks can be found scattered around KZread (probably a full version out there too) However, I've always preferred the versions played on the 1990 But Seriously tour; little bit "less 80s", and the faster songs have a touch harder edge to them that I appreciate. Again, there was pro-shot video to accompany the tour, released under the "Serious Hits...Live!" title...where there's great versions of his songs up to and including But Seriously. @@Kimobubby yeah you're one of two I think who have done a lot. Love seeing people discover the drum duet/Los endos and that old medley. Domino, mama, abacab, The Brazilian from Wembley 87 would be good. Home by the sea and Jesus he knows me from knebworth. Ripples, carpet crawlers , firth of fifth/i know what I like and In The Cage from When in Rome. Would also recommend the documentary Come Rain or Shine. Worth a watch even if you didn't want to do a reaction to it. Though that would be great. Really shows what goes into one of their huge tours.
