Your research is poor at times as there are so many very elementary level mistakes made here within your narrative. 1. At 2:42 - Collins did not join forces at Ulster University. In fact, he formed his little first band “The Real Thing” whilst as a schoolboy at Chiswick County Grammar School. You make no mention of his first proper band ‘Hickory’ or their single release on CBS in January 1969. You also make no mention of his 2nd band ‘Flaming Youth’ and their album ‘Ark 2’ on Fontana in October 1969. 2. At 2:58 - Peter Gabriel did not lead Genesis. The band was led by Tony Banks, Peter Gabriel and Mike Rutherford. They had been together since 1966, four years and not three. 3. At 3:10 - the live record was not from a concert tour of the United States. It was recorded at two venues in England as clearly stated on the back of the sleeve. 4. At 3:17 - they did not sign to Charisma in July 1970, but earlier in March. 5. At 3:27 - John Mayhew did not decide to leave, he was in fact asked to leave by Peter Gabriel. 6. At 3:55 - It was not Collins “and his wife Carol”, but Collins and the guitarist from his band ‘Flaming Youth’, namely, Ronnie Caryl who attended the audition on 8th August 1970. 7. At 4:05 - the group had in fact been playing together for four years and not “less than a year”. You had already clarified this (albeit out by one year) earlier at 2:58. 8. At 4:57 - ‘Carly’? never got to join the band in the first place. Ronnie Caryl failed the audition on 8th August. Guitarist Mick Barnard was hired for a few months. 9. At 8:36 - You include photos of Collins’ second wife who has nothing to do with the problems over the book with his first wife..

I'v seen Phil Collins about 10 times in concert. I'v seen Genesis about 8 times in concert. I'v seen so many others, but no one, really no one comes close to the talent of Phil Collins. His concerts and Genesis were all highlights in my life. I'm so pleased to have several dvd's of those concerts. I can advice everyone to read the book NOT DEAD YET. All written bij Phil Collins himself. Even as a writer this man is upperclass. Yes I adore this man.

I was introduced to Genesis in 81 by my now ex wife had all their albums so trick of the tale , wind in the wuthering ,selling england by the pound, etc were what we listened to then the invisible touch tour came to Glasgow !! never heard an album I possessed equal or even better performed live !!! They levitated Hampden Park stadium ! I was there I felt the levitation !! awesome Show and even the Wilson picket covers, But think they should have recorded their version of I'll be there ! waited around 6 hours to get into the gig after it was over was totally mind blown from my experience !! well done Phil Tony Mike Daryl & Chester you created a memory that I still relive over 38 years ish later!!

I have never seen a person write hit after hit like Phil Collins. also, some people may not know that he played the drums just as good or better than the best of them! Following the departure of Peter Gabriel, the band was concerned whether they could carry on, especially in North America. I attended their first N.A. concert with Phil Collins as lead singer in London, Ontario. Phil later said that they were all extremely nervous about what reception they would get and the success of that night was a turning point for the band.

Chester Thompson acknowledged that he arrived unprepared and less enthusiastic for the Going Back gig. This showed in his performance. Phil was known to be a very hard worker, giving 150%, and expected everyone to be prepared and hard working. Chester's lack of usual commitment and Phil's personal struggles at the time (he was already divorced from Oriane, but had other struggles he was grappling with, unknown to Thompson), led to Phil lashing out. As awkward, embarrassing, and unfortunate as it may have been, it's sad that the years of working together and always seeming to like and respect each other weren't enough for Thompson to immediately approach Phil asking what was wrong and what brought on the unprecedented outburst from Phil or for Phil to approach Thompson afterwards to apologize and simply explain he was under alot of stress elsewhere. I still hope they are able to connect. Even if their former relationship might never be the same, it could put unfinished business to rest.

I really enjoy video's like this where the narrator speaks in a mono-tone voice from a script with no emotional involvement in the story while cutting and pasting random clips including of street buskers with youtube video's who have no relationship to Phil Collins or the story being told. And I love how all the viewers do not take notice because they are too busy telling us that Phil Collins is the greatest ever even if he occaisionally abuses his musicians. As for me, Phil Collins is absolutely the best drummer and vocalist that I've never seen perform or even owned any of his recordings because he couldn't scat like Al Jarreau or George Benson. I never really understood the appeal of Phil Collins but then again I never understood the appeal of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a Michelot Lite.

Musicians are some of the most temperamental individuals I've seen other than Artists. Those who care will go out of their way to "get it right". That's what you do. I think placing great Musicians together will have moments of chaos. It's a process. Phil stepped up on so many situations, yes...for himself and for other people's bands. I was proud to have seen Phil cross the pond back in 1985 to be there for other performers. I love Led Zeppelin, but in this interview...Jimmy was wrong in the criticism. Phil wasn't their replacement for Bonham...he tried to fill in last minute...I think that 1985 stage performance was awesome. When you deal with perfectionist s--you get snarky remarks by all. Phil is an amazing talent that will hold his place in music history.

I always wondered what it would be like to be good friends with a father figure, mine was a complete living hell, anything he was told that was positive about me was immediately terminated, don't tell me who this character is I know him much better than you now get the hell out of here and I would never see that mentor again, the negative comments he received made him smile and admit so you've noticed and would insist on making me put up with those who had nothing good to say about me. Only to have had the opportunity to share time like Phil and the boy do I would have climbed any mountain to have shared..

I dont give a rats ass about Peter. he was run out by the keyboards player (name regardless). Phil had absolutlerly nothing to to with peters absence. Phil stepped in and absolutely crushed it. he gave the Genesis and their sound immortality. . Period. end of story. it was never a peter vs phil essence. if you think it was, youre mistaken.

Nobody ran out Peter Gabriel, he opted to leave as he felt confined in the role as band leader with the weight of fan expectations as Genesis's popularity rose. The band was also crowded with talent and really needed to split up to create room for each member's contributions. Some bands have one writer, Genesis had 5. That's why the solo efforts from each were so rich. I would agree that keyboardist, Tony Banks was the core member and final filter for what would happen on each album. Oddly enough, he had the least success as a solo artist. But he also had by far the most contributions to the songs and sound of Genesis from the very beginning.

There were actually two drummers playing (at once) during Led Zep's Live Aid gig - because both Page and Plant insisted on playing with their favourite and Collins was Plant's pick... when things didn't go smoothly (partly also because Page was apparently rather inebriated), Page was quick to blame it on "that other drummer" - not really quite that fair. But then again: what do you expect from a guy who has a penchant for underaged groupies?

Collins damaged his back by his bad posture while drumming. He had a habit of hunching forwards over the kit instead of sitting upright. You can see this in old photos of him.

I don't think people truly realize what a incredible drummer Phil Collins is. His career as a solo artist over shadows that fact. From classic rock to jazz fusion(Brand X) his musicianship as a drummer is second to none. Just give a listen to "Selling England By The Pound" and you will know what I am talking about. I know some people will think this is reaching but I think he is the greatest drummer ever to have played.

Jeez Your 17:15 is so limp. Darryl’s incorporation and the scheming behind his incorporation and Hacketts exclusion is one of the most significant episodes in Genesis’s evolution. Fortunately, everyone departed beneficially but not to acknowledge the shit way he was existed is a little disingenuous
