What is all about keeping old motor casing as it is have calibration magnets built in? Anyone can comments on that one? Also they have an old model and new model motors. Does Phantom 4Pro+ have a new one?

Great comment and I hope we all could get some answers, and not just 'I heard'.. we need specs and item numbers. What I can comment on unless I can be PROVEN wrong. The long camera cable works with both the p4A and p4Pro. I called a repair shop about the rumor of a different version or newer gimbal arm and they told me both have the same part number.. but yes I have heard rumors also.. I wish someone could verify, but it seems those with the real info are not willing to share, because its their business to repair, plus DJI gets very upset with these repair vids for some reason. If you do learn some info I would be VERY grateful if you came back and shared your experience. Keep me in mind please however long down the road it is. Thanks

If replacing your yaw motor, (crashed gimbal that act up on the yaw axis, probably have a bad motor) you need to swap the drum (casing) from your old motor, as it contains the "sensors" (magnets) that are calibrated (strewn randomly inside the drum & matched with only your phantom) at the factory, which would ordinarily see you attaching your wallet to your drone & sending it off to DJI .If you're careful, you can can do it yourself. There are old style & newer style motors available & the only difference is the shape of the drum. So it doesn't matter which version you receive, as you will need to remove that drum & replace that with your old drum from your old yaw motor anyway. If you just replace the yaw motor, the gimbal won't centre........ EVER.! The gimbal esc will overload, give errors & eventually burn out if the yaw can never find centre. The usual case when changing out a yaw motor & not the casing? Yaw goes full left, full right or yoyos. It's not always the yaw motor that causes erratic yaw movements. Sometimes it's the yaw/roll esc (circuit board that yaw motor cable plugged in to), it just depends on the crash type & what took the most force. Damaged yaw motors are from burnt/broken windings, damaged (severed) flat cables from crash or simply wear & tear.

I had this problem and I did swap casings and I still had a gimbal problem. My P4 Pro ended up sitting in a box for 8 months and now I am wanting to tackle the problem again. It doesn't look like this guy had to change the casing but I have heard of people having to do this. I wonder if this guy got lucky and did not have to do that or maybe I just got a bad Yaw motor. I am thinking about buying another Yaw motor and trying that. I did check my motor ESC on a working p4 pro gimbal and it was good so I am thinking it has to be a Yaw motor problem.

You didn't switch the casing from the old motor so what is all this about having to take the yaw motor apart and switching the casing? Seems that the sensors are on the motor and just a circular magnet in the casing so I'm wondering why you should have to do this. Did yours work just fine?

  • @kd_enterprise3404

Donald Poteet the reason I had to replace the yaw motor is it’s self contained, it’s one piece, if the data ribbon gets detached you have to buy a new motor even though the motor is ok. I never switched casing, I replaced the entire motor... so my main point, if the data/power ribbon gets damaged.. you have to replace the motor.. sad right.. I dunno, hope I answered... if not keep talking, I appreciate the feedback.

Ledrek it varies, depends what country you are in, but generally you just need to find a place that repairs drones, if that does not work eBay, Amazon. I won’t post names because DJI would get upset and does not want anyone to sell parts, I don’t want to cause trouble, especially if Dji uses them as a repair facility.

Had one more thought - ensure the motor/s you replaced or took out are seated back in properly to the arm, I did not have the issue you are but I did notice at point there is potential for the motor to be a little off if not tight and seated in position. Good luck I hope it works, please let me know, I could start asking others about this also.

Hi Robert, basically I can not promote a company as DJI and KZread have something going on and they don't like me much. However, the first choice would be if you can get one from North America, however the easiest way is to go on ebay and get one from china, they normally list for around 30 to 40 dollars. you should not have any issues, even the guys that repair drones for a living get them on ebay.

2 things to try in this order. In the DJI go app there is a gimbal calibration option. I've never done it so look around for that option, could be in advance section.... I will try to check it out myself but can't do right now...Take a look first let me know if you can't find and I will check in the a.m.... after you do the gimbal calibration you will want to use the dji go assistant to further calibrate the camera.. I personally don't have videos on these two points...
