LaShiec has turned tyrant because of Dark Force's influence. Nero found out about this but was killed before he could relay his message to the rebellion. Alisa, Nero's younger sister, must now do what his brother couldn't and free the world from LaShiec's iron fist. But when we do confront LaShiec, he tells Alisa that her father was once the King of all Algol, and Alisa is the rightful heir to the throne. After defeating Dark Falz (not once and for all since he returns in Phantasy Star II, III, and IV), Alisa ascends to the throne and becomes the Queen of Algol.

This is a C- _Lassic_ game.

My older brother couldn't find it, I couldn't find it, little brother found it. By that time I had a Saturn. He still played the older games. Really was impressed!

This game brings back many memories of my childhood. I think I'll be 80 years old and I'll still remember him fondly.

One of the best games of all time!!!

The 3D in these dungeon crawling scenes came out 5 years prior to Wolfenstein 3D on a console. It even had projectiles and a more in depth and functional GUI. SEGA was really ahead of it's time.

Just beat this right now on the Switch using the AGES mode, and this game still kicked my ass. My heart goes out to the people who I know, that beat this game back in the day, and the people who I don't know who beat this game back in the day, lol. Hearing the non-FM music makes it so I'll always be playing with the FM option. Game is awesome and I'll be re-playing it in the future with graph paper next time!

Phantasy Star 1 and 2 were some of the best things Sega gave me.

Finding the hidden doors took me days- until SEGA of America's guide came in the mail! At that time it was free to call and ask for tips on games, and they sent a huge stack of papers and maps and item/weapon attributes, all free.

Yeah, I've beat it 2x, decades apart. Might go back to it again after 10 years or so. The experience is like picking up your favorite book from your childhood and reading it again!

i never finished this game cause i could not get the door open for the final battle i had to back track and all the time and months i spent on this game i could not even play it any more. Here it is 20+ years later and this is the first time im seeing Lassic

I think with Noah you can cast "Open" spell on the door, or use the Miracle Key (if you found it in the final dungeon).

Lassic's ability to target text boxes with lightning is astounding.

Remember fighting Lassic, then the governor went missing. Never ended up beating the game in the end, all because of that hidden door?

Dude, can you believe it? Isn't this amazing? I had my first Atari 2600 in 1988 and they were already making such great games in 1987 and I didn't even dream of lol

I was so happy when I finally finished this game.

Glad I got this game on wii vc early 2018 then again on switch. First time I got and beaten this game and went though it again with the FM ost. This game is very impressive for it's time. It's just funny that I didn't grow up playing these games and I was so wow'd by such an old game with such great graphics, good hardcore rpg difficulty. Also I love Alis and Myau. I think Alis is one of the best leading female protagonists also Myau I believe is the first animal protagonist in an RPG.

One hell of an ending!

This game needs a proper remake.

+Chris James From what I heard, Phantasy Star Generation 1 is a great game. That and Generation 2 are the only two Phantasy Star games I haven't played. The port on the Phantasy Star Collection is identical to the original if I'm not mistaken.

So I've heard. I'm less than impressed by the sprite animation or the sound design but it's neat anyway. But yeah Collection is a port, so it being identical makes sense, though the Genesis games would be imposed with screen-crunch. I can't tell if the first game now has a bigger screen or if it got screen-crunch too, I forget the resolution of the SMS.

Based on when the game came out, that last boss looked frightening.

Talk about blast from the past. This game was so awesome in the day.

Played it in 2016/17. Was....difficult theese days. It was nice to see that lassics lair had the same map layout. If it wasnt on emulator i had given up.

I'm so furious, I've been loving the sega ages version on the switch but i got to the end here, beat lassic, but myau was dead, i had no transers and alice was out of MP so i am eternally stuck on the island, so, thank you for this video, i will replay someday for my own sake but fuck if that isn't the most buzz kill ever at the end of what is a very decent old school JRPG

I love the credit roll for this game, so awesome. The Master System was quite the 8 Bit system, definitely more powerful than the NES for sure!

As 8-bit as this game’s soundtrack is, it’s still awesome. I would love to see a remake of the first three games.

You can for the first 2 games. Phantasy Star I and II have been remade for the PS2 under the Sega Ages 2500 series as "Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 1 - Phantasy Star Generations:1" and "Sega Ages 2500 Vol. 17 - Phantasy Star Generations:2", respectively. They are really good remakes. And spoilers for Phantasy Star Generations:2: You can revive Nei after Neifirst is defeated by fulfilling an intricate amount of requirements.

Has anyone ever noticed that Darkfalz begins attacking two times per turn, and later on he attacks only once? It's like you were fighting two of them, but you don't know it because the enemy's HP bar isn't shown. :)

@@torers lol 2 flashes for that group attack too. I got lost in the Sega ages version and will probably skip it though. Had no idea the music was so bad lol. Glad flute and fly helped backtrack at least a tiny bit.

8 years late, but after some datamining, I found that Dark Falz's HP is somewhere between 400 and 500, maybe even close to 511, the upper bound of a 10-bit limit (0 to 511, since 512 would require another 1)

Kids today don't realize how hard the dungeons were in this game before auto mapping became standard.

Laconian Axe sucks, always use the laser pistol on Odin.

Naah the axe is amazing if you let Myau cast "Help" on him (and Alis as well because why not). The damage buff is huge. 2-4x damage of the laser gun.

The only rpg where you can see the boss's hp. After this they started making you wait.😂

I did-ct beat this game (and PS2) until last year! DarkFalz was damn near impossible, especially with no life gauge!

this game is hard as hell but a great classic

I forgot how good the music was, especially on an 8 bit system

I want the music that plays after Lassic is killed to loop at my funeral. I'll have speakers put in my tombstone that play it.

I recommend grinding everyone to max level. It'll be kinda hard to kill it without doing so.

I NEVER left a dungeon without FULLY exploring it. Many hours and tons of graph paper.......

Fun fact, in the final fight, you're fighting 2 versions of DarkFalz!

The only game in the series with a definitive happy ending.

The Nes would have melted right in front of you if it tried to run this game.

Just like the megid tech n the ryu's shinku haduken are exactly the same thing,plasma balls created by the anger feeling. Just like the capacity from ryu from breath of fire games change into a plasma shooter dragon,a transmutation tech,possible just for sintozoids, organics are unable to do it.

The crazy thing about this game is how it manages to be as entertaining as it is, despite having about as primitive of a battle system as an RPG can get.

Lol the original translation was so bad, although I suppose it has it's charm. The re-translation is FAR better tho. There is a refined version of this game out there on the net with a whole bunch of enhancements and a far better done translation that is absolutely worth looking into!

Did they rename Noah to Lutz or thats his last name.

Lutz was his original name, they renamed him to Noah for the NA release.

Pixel remaster would be appreciated.

Effectively, she doesn't become queen. Which also means the rest of the quadrilogy wouldn't exist as she wouldn't have kids.

I found the door much easier, there is a shoertcut

I honestly find Wind to be a bit of a waste of MP. It uses 12 MP just to hit once more than Fire does. Fire only uses 4 MP, so if you find yourself running out of MP during a tough fight with Noah then I think Fire is the much more efficient spell. Also, how come you're using Fire with Alis? Her attack should be hitting for more than that does, specially once you buff her strength which you absolutely should be doing. Also, Odin's gun weapons are FAR better than single hit weapons in random battles. In a single target boss fight sure, the Laconian Axe can be better sometimes, but there is a randomness to the damage. A constant 20 damage per hit is nothing to sneeze at.

+Niikkoo Huh? You might be referring the track that plays in the beginning. That is Dungeon 2 / Tower. That track is remixed in the Phantasy Star Online Episode 2 track: Trick Track PART 2. That plays when you are fighting enemies in the VR Spaceship.

Theoretically, the rest of the franchise never happens. The Landale/Landeel bloodline doesn't continue, meaning Rolf from Phantasy Star II wouldn't exist, meaning that the Elysdeon wouldn't be in the Esper Mansion, and so on an so forth.

According to the Gaiden series, Alis left Algo short afterward killing Dark Force to a new star system. Hence Lutz (Noah) became more or less the system's protector

This game came out in 1987. Believe it or not this game holds up surprisingly well for an rpg unlike a lot of games back then. But I'm in the camp that thinks phantasy star 4 is the best.
