    Excellent review and showing that this is a really versatile bass even though it is associated with a player with a very unique style. Yamaha basses are excellent and have their own special sauce when it comes to tone. I always record with a bb1025x and it always fits

    Had a bb1200s back in the day. Thing was a tank. Loved the sound, sustain, preamp, cause it gave a massive boost, but most of all, I loved it cause of the baseball bat neck. That thing wss fat, and solid. I abused it, and it always stayed in tune.

    What sonic difference does the reverse P create?

  • @helloitsnicko

    @helloitsnicko

    I find it makes the lower strings less boomy, and adds a little more low end to the higher strings. It sounds more balanced tone wise to me than a right-way-up P style pickup.

    @@helloitsnicko Another quick question, Nick. Now that you've reviewed the BB2024, BBP34, and BBPH, if you could afford only one and you were looking for the best overall value for small-group jazz and rock/Roots/blues, which one would you buy? Thanks.

  • @helloitsnicko

    @helloitsnicko

    3 жыл бұрын

    Great question. Money no object? I would say, and this is exclusively only because you said the J word, the BBP34 would be the best option for that. It's got a little more variety in tones simply because it has the JB style pickup at the bridge; if you do any soloing etc. However in any non-jazz situation, I would actually probably pick the BBPH because it's like a P bass (which works in most contexts), but IMO easier to fit into a mix cos of the benefits of the upside-down pickup previously mentioned!

    Why would you demo a Peter Hook bass and not use a pick? Or play a high register? Or at least Love Will Tear Us Apart?!

  • @helloitsnicko

    @helloitsnicko

    3 жыл бұрын

    Well, considering I used a pick in two clips in this video, I'm guessing you didn't watch the whole thing before posting your comment... I also say that signature basses often get pigeon-holed so I didn't really just want to play in Peter's style, cos the bass is capable of more than that. I suppose I could've done a high-register clip though, I'll give you that. And as for not playing Love Will Tear Us Apart, I didn't fancy getting a copyright strike and demonetised. 👍🏻
