Peter Gabriel - Blood Of Eden

Музыка

Blood of Eden features Sinead O'Connor and is taken from Peter's sixth album, US, was released in 1992.
The album US continued the now well-established Gabriel motif of mixing high technology with decidedly analogue contributions from musicians from West Africa, Egypt and Armenia. Reunited with Daniel Lanois as co-producer, Peter extends the hand of collaboration to Led Zeppelin’s John Paul Jones, Brian Eno, Peter Hammill and Sinead O’Connor.
I caught sight of my reflection
I caught it in the window
I saw the darkness in my heart
I saw the signs of my undoing
They had been there from the start
And the darkness still has work to do
The knotted chord's untying
The heated and the holy
Oh they're sitting there on high
So secure with everything they're buying
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
With the man in the woman and the woman in the man
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
We wanted the the union oh the union of the woman, the woman and the man
My grip is surely slipping
I think I've lost my hold
Yes I think I've lost my hold
I cannot get insurance any more
They don't take credit, only gold
Is that a dagger or a crucifix I see
You hold so tightly in your hand
And all the while the distance grows between you and me
I do not understand
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
With the man in the woman and the woman in the man
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
We wanted the the union oh the union of the woman, the woman and the man
At my request you take me in
In that tenderness I am floating away
No certainty, nothing to rely on
Holding still for a moment
What a moment this is
Oh for a moment of forgetting
A moment of bliss
Oh....
I can hear the distant thunder
Of a million unheard souls
Of a million unheard souls
Watch each one reach for creature comfort
For the filling of their holes
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
I feel the man in the woman and the woman in the man
In the blood of Eden lie the woman and the man
I feel the man in the woman and the woman in the man
In the blood of Eden we have done everything we can
In the blood of Eden, so we end as we began
With the man in the woman and the woman in the man
It was all for the union, oh the union of the woman, the woman and the man

Me here, because I rediscovered the fact that I am a big fan of Sinead. But here, honestly, her talent is wasted. You have a collab with a woman who has such a great voice and she is only the background singer. I am almost sure that Gabriel made the whole thing just so he can kiss her in the video. I mean, I would have done the same, but this song is pretty bland, to be honest.

Sinead O’Connor was the standard bearer for all who’ve been savaged by powerful predators. She gave voice to those had voices had been stolen from them. She stood for truth, in a world of liars. Her courage was incredible. Rest In Power, Sinead, our sister.

@@blackmore4I've always focused more on what I feel when I listen to Peter Gabriel, rather than trying to make out every lyric. When I listen to him, I feel he takes us deep, almost into a hypnosis if we surrender. And it's always about love and peace and unity and things like that. ❤ But that's just my opinion. He was a great match slash collaboration with Kate Bush.

@@joaniejones5114 Seems like, It’s saying beside the blood of Christ as exalted and holy lies the simple underpinning’s of humanity, our blood, that is of humans, who were originally born in Eden, that, (Biblically speaking), the 2 genders of “woman” and “man”, and within humanities blood, everyone born, is part of an unending cycle, a cycle that goes on and on through time, that humanity gives birth to itself? It seems to denote an equality by the visual aspects. Tho, he ALWAYS shows up in a suit. That his symbolic standard. The way Sinead O’Connor is wearing red, is also interesting. Red is a color used in wedding dresses in other countries with holy ways. In this instance blood is life, blood is red. So the marriage of woman and man, giving birth to themselves is closer to red: the blood, the life, the humanity. Which is a *contrast* to the than a celebration of the innocence I tend to appreciate when people take biblical concepts and remove the fear, hatred, epic, punishment, overly pious ways of being, and, instead of sin, perhaps it’s a cycle? Forgive me on this if I’ve got it wrong, I like to explore symbolism, but that’s what it SEEMS to be saying.

Those were the days when music meant something beyond making money. Today, when musicians are forced to make their art available more or less for free (at least hardly any musician earns anything from the sale of recordings), music simply no longer has any meaning. Today anyone with a PC or Mac can create their "own" music from terabytes of sample libraries, so that no one has to learn a musical instrument anymore. And young, new artists no longer have the opportunity to find an audience with the vast array of sampling and sequencing mash on offer. The digitization of music has made it possible to make the production of professional sounds accessible to anyone who has a computer, but ultimately it has lost its value and meaning ...

You hold so tightly in your hand And all the while, the distance grows between you and me I do not understand In the blood of Eden Lie the woman and the man With the man in the woman And the woman in the man In the blood of Eden Lie the woman and the man We wanted the union Oh the union of the woman The woman and the man At my request you take me in In that tenderness, I am floating away No certainty, nothing to rely on Holding still for a moment What a moment this is A moment of forgetting A moment of bliss, oh I can hear the distant thunder Of a million unheard souls Of a million unheard souls Watch each one reach for creature comfort For the filling of their holes In the blood of Eden Lie the woman and the man With the man in the woman And the woman in the man In the blood of Eden Lie the woman and the man We wanted the union of the woman and the man Blood of Eden comes running through me Running through my veins Blood of Eden comes rushing through me 'Til I'm sure that there's none that remains Blood of Eden comes running through me Running through my veins Blood of Eden comes rushing through me 'Til I'm sure that there's none that remains In the blood of Eden We have done everything we can In the blood of Eden So we end as we bagan With the man in the woman And the woman in the man It was all for the union Oh the union of the woman The woman and the man Oh, thank you I was gonna guess that but- And it's gonna be waiting in the album a little longer Because this one is actually called Red Rain

Such a great balance between production and songwriting. This is also notable in the more upbeat songs like Sledgehammer, in which one can find a gazillion of devices which have become production tropes (like that japanese flute), and yet they are used in such an elegant and fitting manner, that the song still holds up where other songs of that time utilizing the same gimmicks already caved in.

I was also 19 in 1993. I had forgotten about this hauntingly beautiful song until Sinead’s passing prompted me to search out her music again. Rediscovering this song was like finding a long lost friend. RIP wonderful Sinéad, you will always be a hero to me ❤

This living poem - full of life and meaning.... I know that it is supposed to be about a divorce. I didn't hear it that way. I reflected that my life has been blessed with the company of a beautiful and wonderful woman - for over 34 years now. Yet, as our bodies began to decline and age... it is the Blood of Eden that we got to live in... and that is the meaning of it all. The touching of eternity as our lives wind down... the promise, the blessing and the wonder shall carry on. What a ride! Thank you Mr. Gabriel for this living poem... that reminds me of my ever gratitude.

Will Olson It’s about divorce, but I think it’s also about marriage. That’s what I live so much about Peter’s lyrics. They have so many beautiful layers to them! Congrats to you for such a long marriage! :) May you continue to be blessed.

She called out the wrong she knew of in the Catholic Church long before it was excepted & her pass abuse lead to a lifetime of mental health issues. And as far as I can imagine her beauty along with her talent carried her through these storms. Thanking u & may God REST YOUR BEAUTIFUL SOUL!! 🙏🏽❤️🙏🏽

I'm deeply saddened to hear about your passing Sinead. I can't imagine how it must have felt to have lost your dear son, Shane. Your 💔 must have been broken in a million pieces. I'm so sorry that your pain was too heavy to carry. You are together again with Shane, and you will both be angels forever. I wish you peace, light, and all the love you can find Sinead. Thank you for the beautiful music you've given us. You we're an exceptional soul. Much ❤❤❤LadyLove
