As an Ex Muslim, martyrdom is also a very real thing to us and as a christian an honour We Christians must always be ready to lay down their lives for a testimony of Jesus Christ. for we overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and our testimony...these times were in may yet call for such faith. but Praise Jesus Christ, he will be with us like he was with Daniel and his friend in the fire. even so come Lord Jesus come.

To be martyred, accused, condemned, castigated and hated as a follower of Christ is a great honour in the eyes of Heaven. Their names are written down in the book of life, for they are not ashamed to bear His name.

Such an incredible and powerful testimony of the love of our Lord Jesus Christ in the lives of martyrs such as Perpetua. This should be preached and taught in every church. Well according to the holy scriptures there is no way it was recorded that we who are still alive can pray to those who are dead to pray for us to Jesus Christ. As a believer of Christ Jesus you relay on the holy Spirit alone just as the early Christian relay on the holy Spirit to over come. So is wrong to ask for their help, is idolatry please read your holy Bible and pray for guidance to know what is right. Thanks for understanding in Christ Jesus.

The Saints and martyrs are not dead, they are alive, just as Jesus said that Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are alive. The book of revelation also talks about them being alive. As full members of the Body of Christ Who have already passed through the trials of this world and gained their reward, of course they pray for the members of their Body who are still in need of prayer. When I die, I’ll certainly pray For the members of my family who are still in the fight and I will pray for the rest of God’s children as well. I’ll be so grateful for my salvation, that I will want to do whatever I can for the Lord that would bring him joy. What brings him the most joy? The salvation of his children. So I will ask him if I can pray for them or do anything to help his children come Home. I’m sure He will answer my prayer. I hope I can spend my heaven praying for the Body of Christ still on earth until Jesus returns in His glory. Amen! Alleluia! Jesus, Let thy kingdom come on earth and may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven! I pray for those souls in most need of thy mercy. Amen!

Oh my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Service from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of thy mercy. I will pray this prayer while I am in the flesh and when I am awaiting the resurrection of my Body, until the prayer is no longer needed. I do not believe that God will push me aside and say my prayers are useless just because I have lost my flesh. The Bible never says that we become a useless member of Christ’s Body when we die.

@@my3sweetsg288 you are correct in that the saints are alive. Even some of the Apostles saw them at the transfiguration. And in heaven we most likely will continue to pray. Yet did our Lord teach his disciples to pray to them ? But what did he say, “what so ever you ask the Father in my name it shall be done.” When we pray to those who have went before us, have they become gods as some teach we become, able to be omnipresent and be everywhere and hear everyone and read minds? I concur we dishonor the saints and turn them into the same pagan gods the Romans had in their homes. I just read today on another site that some saint is the patron saint of toothaches. Isn’t Augustine the saint of beer or partying or some such nonsense? This is all ridiculous and superstitious. Love the saints. Honor the saints. Learn from the saints. Be proud of your ancestors. But don’t turn them into deities. Shalom

it is okay dear brother or sister. i have done the same once moving back and forth between two different opinions of christianity. but God is able to help us resolve our problems and by His grace he accpeted me back into His fold. do not be ashamed of the faith of our forefathers.

Thank you! They always mention Saints Felicity and Perpetua in the litany of saints at mass, but I never knew their story. This was beautiful. I kept thinking while watching this that when/if my time comes to proclaim my faith in Jesus or die, That I would say and feel something like, “I wish I could deny him and go back to my comfortable life, but I could never imagine breaking his heart in that way, especially after all he has suffered for my sake! My sins have already hurt him so much and yet he shows me love and mercy. I can’t hurt Him even more! I can’t deny Him, my beloved!” I think the only thing that would get me through martyrdom is the knowledge of how much it would hurt him if I denied him. Saint Perpetua, pray for us that we will have final perseverance. I believe our time is coming.

I hear you there brother. We can have grand fantasies of standing up for Jesus and being beheaded by the antichrists of this world and in reality shrink back with fear in the grocery store when we have an opportunity to shine as lights for our Savior. It is so important to let Jesus mold us in our everyday life by his merciful spirit. So whether we pass on peacefully in old age or are torn asunder by wild beasts, we are the Lords. It pleases him for us to live out the life he has graciously given us to life. All Saints Day, which is today, is a great time to reflect on those saints who have gone before us. Some martyred, some isolated monks, some great theologians, and some so quiet we have never heard of them. But they all had the same thing in common, as do we who believe. @@Anna-mz4ij Though the saints are alive in heaven, they cannot hear your prayer. We have been given the Holy Spirit today to communicate with God on our behalf and that is enough. Anything apart is unbiblical. Nowhere in the Bible the saints prayed to James or Stephen who were martyred.

Am a Christian!! These were nursing mothers - can you imagine the sacrifice? We are joking with our Christianity - going for worldly wealth and riches (calling it prosperity?). A person like Perpetua whos testimony was and is to be used to bring many new Christians to the faith is a trully awesome blessing BUT any true Christian would kindly let you So So know that their testimony is a gift from ABBA. . . Only through Jesus and the belief that He died on the cross for We, unholy, unworthy sinners, God sent down His only begotten Son down to earth to bleed for our sins and through grace we are forgiven and Jesus will allow us into heaven. No saint, No other Christians soul. No good deed. No deed or work at all will help you. Only Jesus can save us and this is good news. . . . So, you think that this woman, who was a Catholic is in hell? In fact, all of the Christians in this story were Catholic. You heard the story, she was a martyr who died for her Jesus. The narrator calls her vision of her brother as strange, or something like that. Clearly her little brother was in purgatory and St Perpetua's prayers and sufferings were instrumental in releasing him from there into Heaven. Your comment is heretical. I hope that you consider how little you understand the Book of Revelation and I dare say, Christianity.

"While we may not understand Perpetua's vision fully..." Yea, it's pretty clear she saw a vision of her brother in Purgatory. And her prayers assisted in his purification, thanks be to God. Not gonna argue with any Protestants (former one myself!) who wanna challenge me on this - Purgatory is well referenced in numerous Scriptural passages and has been a longstanding belief throughout Church history. The Old Testament Jewish prayed for the dead as the Church still asks us to do today. To any Protestants still reading this - please come home to the FULLNESS of faith found only in the one, holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. Jesus is waiting for you in the Eucharist.

Purgatory? No....Sounds more like "Sheol/Abraham's bosom", the place of the dead--with the gulf in between. Description is right out of scripture--the 2 areas of the dead, separated by a great gulf.

Martyr means a witness. Not always a willing sacrifice. Many people die for their beliefs. Not just religious ones.

I’m not sure I could die knowing I’d be leaving my children unguarded in a cruel world. 😢

We will have to trust that God will give us the grace and the strength to endure in those moments when we face those situations. We don't need it ahead of time. As Wm Paul Young says: live in the grace of one day... Maybe the best way to prepare for any difficult or scary situation is learning to trust Him in small things now. Be loved! :-)

That experience happened also to Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego the Hebrew boys during the reign of king Nebuchadnezzar he wanted them to worship the statue of gold they refused to do that and the Lord delivered them from a horrible death in the ovens.

Not only when I die, but while I live. And that is so difficult.

The Romans regarded the worship of their beloved Emperor Augustus as an act of patriotic reverence. They saw the Christian's refusal to engage in the worship of Augustus as criminally disrespectful. But Christians who died with the courage of Perpetua and her companions eventually made a deep impression on the Romans. When Perpetua took the gladiator's hand and guided the tip of the blade to her throat--that gesture guiding the gladiator' blade to her neck--that was so very Roman. Stoical, and tough. Romans valued courage above all else. So when Perpetua died like that, with the courage of a Roman general, they must have been transfixed.

Powerful story.

Praise God, for they may bury the workmen but the work will go on, they may silence the voices but they can't stop the song. We belong to Jesus Christ of Nazareth Yeshua Hamashiach Son of the living God and we will go on, All Glory To God 🙏
