5:26 A natural alternative for peripheral neuropathy
In this video, we’re going to talk about an amazing natural alternative for peripheral neuropathy.
Diabetic neuropathy usually affects the bottom of the feet and sometimes the hands and is one of the first signs of a blood sugar problem.
Chemotherapy, hypothyroidism, autoimmune diseases, medications, viruses, and Lyme disease can also lead to peripheral neuropathy. However, high blood sugar and diabetes are the most common causes.
Diabetes wears down the myelin sheath over time, leaving exposed nerves at the bottom of the feet.
Peripheral neuropathy can feel like hypersensitivity, burning, severe pain, or itching. If it’s not corrected, it can lead to ulcers in the lower part of the body and gangrene.
Consuming too much sugar makes it difficult for the mitochondria to get enough fuel. Too much sugar also leads to nutrient deficiencies and inhibits the function of enzymes that bring fuel to the cell. When sugar blocks the body’s mechanism for getting energy to the cells, it utilizes alternative pathways for energy.
One of these alternative pathways produces sorbitol, a sugar alcohol. Sorbitol can damage the lens of the eye, leading to cataracts. It can also affect the retina, leading to diabetic retinopathy. Sorbitol affects the cells that compose the myelin sheath. It can also convert to fructose, creating even more problems.
Benfotiamine is a fat-soluble form of vitamin B1 that can help support the nerves. Try taking 300 mg of benfotiamine 4 times daily.
Lipoic acid is a cofactor for the enzyme that allows you to metabolize excess glucose. Vitamins B5, B2, and B3 are also cofactors for this enzyme.
Diabetes damages your nervous system and brain over time, so it’s imperative to correct your diet, which I believe is the root cause of peripheral neuropathy. Learn more about the benefits of a low-carb diet and intermittent fasting in my other videos.

On Easter Sunday 2017, I ate a whole bunch of milk chocolate all at once. My fingertips burned for 3 days straight. I decided I had to do something, so I cut out all carbs immediately. I also adopted the healthy keto and intermittent fasting plan, including 7 to 10 cups of leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables, mostly raw but also some cooked. I didn't care if I lost weight. I just didn't want to get diabetes like most of my family. My symptoms cleared up instantly and never came back. I also lost 30 pounds slowly, over the next 6 months. I've never gained back the weight, and it's been 7 years.

It's important to differentiate nerve pain from other causes of pain. If your feet are hurting, when you're standing and walking, that's usually a musculoskeletal pain such as tendinitis. If the pain primarily occurs when you're off your feet, such as when you're laying in bed at night, it's more likely to be nerve pain. To further muddy the waters. If you are pain-free when you go to bed, but you're awakened by your feet being in intense pain, this can be due to a circulation issue.

@@teelinni I'm so sorry for the pain you're going through! I can't take Lyrica it makes me go blind (Thank God I got my sight back eventually when I went off it! I also can't take Cymbalta it made me gain lots of weight and made my pain worse and it really messed with my stomach 😢. So I was continued on pain medication and my migraine medication (which I had to try several before they were able to find one that helped me & then a year to two yrs ago they took me off it even though it was the ONLY one that helped me 😮😭). I have been trying to take as many vitamins that Dr. Berg recommends that I can afford after having to go on disability because of my screwed up neck, entire spine and hips and feet. And I stopped all the painful epidurals in my neck, lower back and feet...which made me gain lots of weight (which the pain doctor actually botched a nerve abalation in my left side of my neck and I couldn't use my entire side of my body for 6-8wks!!!😮😳😱😡 I also had the assistant blow out my vein trying to do the IV for the nerve abalation and I should have sued them because that vein is still messed up and nurses always want to use it because they say "Oh that's a big vein !"😳 I tell them it's big/huge now because the pain doctor's assistant didn't know how to do a IV and distroyed my vein and its NEVER went back to normal in 5yrs. So I don't trust any medical team anymore!!! Then after the Botched nerve abalation they wouldn't let her ever do IV again and so she gave me a Xanax for a epidural in my neck and shoulder and Holy Cow they didn't wait until it took effect and I tried to tell them and I felt every bit of the pain and didn't get relaxed until my friends were driving me home 😮😔😭. I certainly hope you have had better treatment's with your doctor's and nurses etc. And hopefully you've had good luck and results with the vitamins recommended in the videos 🙏. B1 has helped with calf pain in my legs, magnesium has helped with the insomnia, but I need to increase the mg. Best wishes ❤
I had my A1C up high and stopped all carbs and now I am totally normal .
In my mid-50s. I had neuropathy in my right foot, but I've never tested as diabetic. In a completely seperate fitness effort, I started taking 100% DV of all vitamins and minerals, mostly multi-vitamins with a few supplements. Nothing crazy. Also shifted over to carnivore diet. I hit the gym twice a day, with an hour of cardio on the treadmill. Over the last year, I lost weight and muscled up. My neuropathy slowly disappeared at a rate that I never noticed, but it's now a year later and I suddenly realize that I have NONE of it going on in my foot anymore. Incredible.
It's important to take "R-Lipoic Acid" with a "R" at the front of the name. The other forms are cheaper but do not work. Great talk 🙂
I have had mild peripheral Neuropathy, I am not diabetic. I have tried Alpha Lipoic Acid and Benfotiamine, I practice intermittent fasting and dirty Keto. For me it really has been the B1 that has had the greatest results. It has taken around 6 months of B1 supplements but I have almost no symptoms now. Don't eat sugar, go low carb and take B1 as Benfotiamine.
I have severe neuropathy in my feet that I've been dealing with for years. It's so horrible. I'm not diabetic and so far no doctor knows why I have it. I don't eat sugar and only drink water. I've tried everything including ALA and B vitamins. Nothing helps except one thing from the doctors, Lyrica, but Lyrica has horrible side effects. I had to ask to get my dose lowered, so it doesn't work as well, but the side effects are less. The worst one is it messes with your memory where it takes longer than usual to think of the answer to a question. For example if someone asks what other movies an actor is in, it takes me a lot longer to think of the answer even though I know it. It gets really frustrating and I wish I could find a natural way to get relief.

OMG!! Ten years ago, I faced this issue, and doctors were unable to diagnose it. They prescribed physiotherapy and various medications, but none showed improvement. Then I disposed of the medications and decided to self-manage with calcium, magnesium, multivitamin and fish oil. Surprisingly, the pain vanished!!! Dr Berg you are superstar, you saved so many lives with your video
Very useful information, as usual! Thanks!
Sorbitol is also found in ultra processed foods.
I am disabled with severe diabetic polyneuropathy I weaned myself off of lyrica, which made me bedridden. I'm able to walk again but my balance good. I take several supplements that help with the symptoms and the pain. Moringa, acetyl L-Carnitine and alpha lipoic acid. Still working to keep my blood sugar under control with my doctor. I believe that some of nerves may have regenerated a while ago. I don't believe that mine will go away completely. I also take B1 and B12

Currently on a waiting list to see my neurologist again. My nerve test came back Serve Neuropathy last month. Not that I needed the test to define it. I have also had hypothyroidism since childhood. Sometimes compression socks help a bit but mostly its just constant. This year my hands have also shared in the joys of THE ACHY BURN as well. Sometimes if I soak my feet on scolding hot water it numbs them for a awhile. It seems these things that added relief are helping less n less. Im trying to dig deep n really focus more on my diet again (cutting carbs/sugars) and adding ANY vitamins I can. Im currently taking a strong D3 once a week and a B12 shot once a month. Im hoping these suggestions might add more relief. It seems others who describe my pain level with neuropathy are 10 plus years older than than me. I feel pretty depressed about the whole dilemma.
Thank you Dr Berg for sharing another interesting video. May God blessed you and your family!

Not entirely sure of the science explanation but I've reversed about 60% of the symptoms just from going gluten free, been flirting with keto/carnivore diets to try to expedite the healing as well. It can be caused by injuries fracture stress fractures, soft tissues, tendon, or ligaments... or poor fitting shoes.
I have full body Peripheral Neuropathy. I suffer from Heart Failure. Kidney Failure. MDS. 65yo.

My dad had Peripheral Neuropathy. He started doing red light therapy on his feet and hands. Did wonders for them. Over time, the numbness went away and the pain. The diet is obviously the foundation of good health, but the red light therapy worked great in my Dad's case.

Hello Dr. Berg, can you please make a video about tricalcium phosphate or calcium citrate? Are they as bad as calcium carbonate? I would really appreciate it.
Merci Dr. Berg!
B vitamins cause me to break almost immediately with cystic acne. I'm 60! Tried all kinds of formulas and the lipoid acid. Within a few days I can feel it coming up in my lower face. If I stop, it stops. If I continue it's bound to be one painful deep cystic sore. Testosterone does the same thing. 😢
the sorbitol and cataract connection makes alot of sense.

Does this cause swelling in the feet as well?
I developed neuropathy while I was going through chemo in 2017. It’s really hard to call what I feel “pain“. It feels like someone poured sand or something between my toes and some type of cement at the top of my feet. My fingers slightly have it as well but it’s more annoying than painful. I really miss waking up and going about my day without this discomfort😢

Like you're wearing four socks some days and when you wake up and stand it feels like the bottoms of your feet are sore and you have super glue on the bottoms of them?

Chemo caused mine too. Esp in my feet. Finished chemo in 2016. Now in 2024 most of it is finally gone. Just a bit of residual in right foot. Good luck. May it all go away.

Many foods contain high amount of oxalates which accumulate, resulting in muscle and joint pains, bladder/prostate issues, foot 'neuralgia' among other heath issues. Robs you of calcium and magnesium so host of things can occur! RHUBARB!!!, SPINACH, CHARD, KALE, BEETS, chocolate, almonds, to name a few top ones. Fixed those problems. Also used B-1 [benfotamine] and the best B-complex which are necessary in nerve processes. Worked fast.
Keep away from sugar and carbs.
Glad you’re here with information that makes common sense. Using natural resources before using pharmaceuticals. Mainly it’s because of what people are eating that’s the root cause of many of their health issues

Doctor prescribed NERVITA For peripheral neuropathy. It's combination of B1 B3 B12. Is it beneficial?
Low carb and 16:8 is exactly how my late husband reversed his diabetes
I have it on my feet but it doesn't hurt at all. A few days ago I added CA AKG to my already numerous list of supplements. Dr. Berg, is it true that AKG and berberine cancel each other out? Thank you.
I have numbing leg and was taking Benfotiamine 150mg for months, but recently started 300mg per day, together with the other B vitamins, Alpha lipoic Acid and Omega 3. My question is Benfotiamine 300mg x 4 times per day=1200mg per day, isn't that too much?I am wondering should I increase my dose.
Thanks so much for the good job. may the Lord bless you 👌👌👌

Long term exposure to Nitrofurantoin (for UTI) can cause Peripheral Neuropathy
Will it work for neuropathie caused by ciprofloxacine???
My dad had peripheral nephropathy for decades.. UN-diagnosed until the 80s.. I never remember him having hair below his calves.. and he wasn't diabetic. He didn't have an auto immune issue or any chemo.. No one ever came up with an official cause but he said it started after he mistakenly got his feet into av gas while in the air force.. soaked right through his boots.. never had athletes foot after that either.
The bottom of my feet became numb/painful, and sometimes even hot after an epidural😢 18 months ago. Thefore, it is important NOT to put your feet into overly hot water as they have less feeling and could get damaged.
Thanks Doc
