I work at a department store right by the creed section and I'm quite close with the creed staff. I've been told the reason it smells different is because some ingredients have gone illegal, some have gone out of season, some are just much harder to find so they have to use more of another ingredient to balance it out. To me, I believe some of that is true but it's obvious creed has definitely cheaped out on some of their fragrances. It's actually an iffy subject to talk about batches because so many people come in and bug my co-workers about if they have a certain batch and it's like no... We don't. Side note: creed also increased their price in August by $30 and again at the start of October by another $30 so it definitely seems like they don't really care about giving you quality for the price you're paying
@Ekiboy1

I would say, either they should reformulate it properly, meaning make it as good as possible to correspond the price. Or just end the production if it's impossible to make legally. What they are doing now is just cheap, riding on the hype train. And Aventus bros and reviewers will shill this in hope of free bottles. So Creed makes profit even with a bad product. I own 0 Creed frags and will never buy one for the price, the value is not there and nobody cares that I am wearing Creed, even if I tell people that LOL

it’s the oakmoss. IFA regulates fragrances and they categorized oakmoss as a skin irritant (which it is for a lot of people) so everyone’s resorted to using synthetic oakmoss
Reformulations happen for practical reasons (like material scarcity or safety regulations) but usually they're done to lower the bill of materials and raise margins, even if it's just by pennies. Creed got acquired by a public company, sure, but they were thinning out the soup for years before the buyout. They got memed online super hard by the fragrance community, and even before that they had a nearly godlike reputation, so they felt secure enough to pull the breathtaking move of both watering their formulas down *and* jacking up the prices. They're completely shameless and not worth supporting, in my opinion.

100% I am with you on this, is shameful what they do... And people still buy them
I sampled a few Creed’s the other day in a high street department store and none of them lasted more than an hour or so. The sales associate emphasised that they were all hand crafted from natural ingredients like a fine wine. We didn’t discuss batch variations but to be honest I don’t really care as it’s such a disappointment that they don’t last on the skin. People say to just spray more but at the prices they ask, I’ll vote with my feet and just walk on by! I almost feel like the customer is being taken advantage of - being sold on apparent exclusivity and brand reputation and history while the product is essentially sub-standard. I think Creed need to re-evaluate their mission and ethos. ☹️

This is the detrimental situation that the consumer has created, unfortunately. Diabolically, the company may be sitting back allowing it, hell they maybe even strategized how to market their shit to get this much craze, but at the end of the day the people took it an ran w it. YT reviewers did their part in adding fuel to the fire, whether it be for free bottles or not, I would’ve never cared about creed if there wasn’t so many non affiliated or partially affiliated people pushing it like salesmen and women

I own 2 creeds. Silver Mountain Water and Aventus. Both last 8-10 hours easily. I can smell SMW on me all day. At first, I didn’t think Aventus was performing, But I found out that I go nose blind to Aventus within just a few minutes. I only know it is performing because it gets me compliments hours and hours after putting it in. Also, I cannot smell it after a few minutes, but when doing my laundry a few days later, can still smell it pretty strong on my clothes.

I’ll say this. The first time I smelled Aventus was July of 2012. I was at the Greenbrier in West Virginia, and there was a Creed boutique there. The sales associate sprayed it on a card and I was hooked, purchased it on the spot. It was extremely smoky, just the right amount of pineapple and extremely strong, the most amazing thing I had ever smelled. The batch disparity debate is definitely legit. In subsequent years I’ve purchased additional bottles and nothing ever compared to that 2011/2012 batch, and that is very frustrating. I had a batch from 2015 that was close but it was lacking on the smoke. It doesn’t help that Creed increases their prices every few years while watering down the product. I’ve moved on from Aventus to MFK Gentle Fluidity Silver and I am quite happy with it.

The newest batches don't compare to the authentic decant sample of Creed Aventus I bought from Bonanza a couple years ago. I don't know what batch it was because it was never listed, and I did not ask the seller. All I knew it smelt amazing. It was the best fragrance I had ever sampled in my life, and wanted a full bottle, but was not wanting to pay the ridiculous price. The new batches of Creed Aventus don't wow me like what I sampled, and the juice was not even the same. The sample I had the juice was yellow, and it was strong. The old batches of Creed Aventus made you smell like the best smelling man in the room consistently. Anybody that gets to sample an older batch of Creed Aventus unknowingly like I did would be lucky. That experience wowed me, and made me realize what all the hype was all about. Shame I don't get that feeling in the newer batches.

Another great review Aaron, realy enjoying watching your journey. Value your opinions on fragrances like so many others.
I love your reviews, because they resonate with me. I don't know anything technical about fragrances, so I would never know if the details you give are right, but the things I smell always correspond to what you say. For example I always thought Hacivat was totally different than aventus. So I was super happy to hear that they are totally different in construction, because they smell totally different. I would love you to do a Mancera Cedrat Boisé vs Aventus, to confirm my smell saying they are totally different as well. With explorer I smell the resemblance. Keep up the good work!
Explorer has been one of the most successful cologns I've ever had. Yes aventus is better "the older ones" smells more natural and explorer smells more clean and woody. For the price you can't go wrong with explorer.

Absolutely love your reviews. Thank you for the time and passion you put into your work, very appreciated 🙏. I agree that there are certainly batch "issues" with Aventus; it's quite known that when you purchase a batch from a particular year, it's going to be (markedly) different from even the year prior. Also very true that with each new batch lies an issue with the performance. For something priced at $350, it shouldn't be this way.
You are always spot on. I appreciate your in depth comparison.

I tested Aventus in December and after 1 hour I could barely smell it, I would never pay the price for it but I've always been curious of the hype, great video yet again Aaron
The first time I smelled Aventus was 2014, that was insanely good. It had a deeper ‘manly’ Smokeyness to it. Now it seems to be purely based on the pineapple. I had one bottle it was that fruity it smelled like Virgin island water. If only Aventus could go back to being consistent from the early years.
I have a 2019 batch of Aventus and it definitely has that nice smooth core like you said. I think that the batch I have is less smoky and more focused on the pineapple. Mine has nice smooth sweetness in the middle(vanilla I guess). I also have a 2015 and 2020 batch of Green Irish Tweed and the older smells different and better to me. I did smell a 2010 batch of Green Irish Tweed and it smells the best to me.

Hey Aaron I actually worked agency on the creed counter a lot over last Christmas. No1 the manager was an absolute cow and no2 It's so funny that you said embarrassed cos that's exactly how I felt it's actually mind boggling that people pay the prices for this when I agreed mont blanc was far better and better value. If people mentioned how expensive it was and they couldn't afford it I would suggest on the sly mont blanc is very nice hopefully made a good few people happy over Christmas with the montblanc gifts. Any time I'd mention anything to do with the dynamics of the company the manager wouldn't even speak even though I was just curious. Strange x
I'm sure this has already been mentioned but Aventus is also one of those fragrances you can go anosmic to very quickly. I used to think that was the urban myth that Creed and die-hard Aventus fans put out there to justify the poor performance as compared to the high price but it happened to me when I owned a bottle. I applied just as I arrived to work one morning and gave myself six or so sprays and within 30 min, I couldn't smell it at all. A friend and I went to the break room to grab a cup of coffee and catch up and a beautiful co-worker stopped us and said, "I'm so sorry to interrupt but one of you smells amazing and I have to know what it is" so I guess there's something to it. Still, I was good having owned one bottle of Aventus and then it was time to move on to new experiences. Another stellar video Aaron!

I have a couple of 10ml decants of early batch Aventus, I only wear on special occasions as I am well aware once they are gone, my Aventus journey will have come to an end. Lasting power is genuinely magnificent, if I were to spray on in the morning I could still smell the fragrance on my skin the following morning even after an evening shower! I recently went to John Lewis and House of Fraser in Bluewater Shopping Center, I sprayed Aventus from both stores, one on my left arm and one on my right arm, both were gone by the end of my shopping trip! Very sad and I feel the fragrance house is cruising on former reputation with sales of the product!

The batch variations is indeed a real thing. I have various decants going back to 2014 batches and bottles from 2018 - 2022. Some batches are weak, some batches are strong, some batches are dark, some batches are bright and vibrant. It's a wild and crazy ride when diving into the batch variations. It should show the batch number of that sample on the outside fold of the cover card. The 15 batches and peform (non "N") 19 batches are incredibly strong and unique. I could go on and on about the differences in variations. Definitely easy to get sucked into the world of batch variations.

I would call it as inconsistent formula. Product is not finalized or they purposely changing it in order to drive higher margins by removing components
I remember smelling aventus straight up at a John Lewis and being utterly blown away bit it, plus I had smelled it on somebody before and the scent cloud in the air was incredible. I decided to buy a bottle, which as soon as I sprayed it smelled as great as I'd remembered, but barely lasted. I wore it for the first time to a birthday in the summer, you would think a £180 bottle of perfume would last longer than 3 hours, but it really didn't. Further to your point about the sample smelling completely different to your previous sample, I bought two bottles 2 months apart from each other, one was very smoky and lasted about an hour, the other was much cleaner and fruiter but lasted a couple hours longer. Considering how many clones there are that smell very similar, and last much longer going for around £40-£50 a bottle, aventus really isn't worth it anymore.
Aaron I really hope to see you do an Aventus version review. The batch variation hype is definitely not a wives tale… It has changed significantly over the years, and in my personal experience these new batches have a little to no performance. Really sad indeed. I have a late ‘16 batch of Aventus which seems to be my lucky charm. Huge performance, still comes off strong after 12 hours. Tested a ‘21 and ‘22 batch, can’t say much more than that it’s absolute horse shit…
I did this at the beginning of my Journey. Aventus now has a Mandarin Orange note instead of Pineapple (imo) They removed a bit of the smoky incense that it was known for, and is needed to help cut through the citrus acid. Aventus also has 'potted soil' patchouli at the end dryoff, which i don't like. Explorer at discounters is cheap af, i paid like $35US for a bottle, i mean at that price it's a 'good' fragrance, but i wore it in high heat during the summer and in the car it was getting cloying because of how much citrus acid white musk there is in it. In the opening my batches are very hard to tell apart, where you can notice small differences as it drys down. Now that my nose is more trained after testing about 700+ fragrances during my journey, id love to revisit compairing to see what differences i notice now.

I think creed aventus has the most natural ingredients with the best quality ingredients. The pineapple opening is what I love the most. Mont blanc explorer is a good clone even though it's different. Just recently tried Club de nuit intense man and smells very similar to mont blanc explorer as well but cheaper so I think in the future i'll go with CDNIM it's cheaper than explorer with similar scent profile. I also tried Nishane Hacivat which I think would appeal more to you as a perfumer it's strong performance and creamy seems like something you'd appreciate
Totally AGREE with you. I do love "Montblanc explorer" and even if i find "Creed Aventus" nice, i don't really understand the hype for this (too) expensive perfume. In my own opinion, it is overvalued. But all the tastes are in Nature... but sorry, i find it too expensive for what it is.

@@etpourtant7512 That's fine, because the alternative is very expensive. I don't blame people who buy expensive fragrances, because I see it as "maxing out" in one of our senses, and when I see it that way it's a small price to pay. I also don't blame people who want alternatives with 1/10th the price, because 20% less for 1/10th the price is still a bargain, and you can get 10 scents for 10 the lifetime for the same price. I blame people that buy clones that are in the price range of an original brand. A clone should be 1/5th at least the price of original, and less than $70-80 total.
Montblanc Explorer is my go-to, for the price its a no brainer. The aventus I've tried smelt more natural which I liked, but had poor performance and was weak. I find that explorer has a smoky woodiness in it that I could not smell in aventus - and its that citrus pineapple burst on top of the smokier woodiness combination I really like, which I actually didn't get from aventus. They're similar but different, and I prefer explorer. I don't love the ambroxan hit it has, but assuming it helps drives its performance I don't care - the price is also just a huge factor.
Hi Aaron. Would love to hear your take on the new Roberto Cavalli Uomo Golden edition. It's a very limited release so if you are able to find a bottle would love to see a review. It has become my favourite of the whole Uomo line which I have all. In my opinion it sits between the original Uomo and Uomo La Notte. Thank you. PS-The bottle is gorgeous also)
Spot on review as always🏅. If you love the DNA of aventus from years back when it filled a room and you couldn’t wash it off your clothes then it’s Hacivat by nishane you need 💣. It’s expensive but worth every penny👌🏽
Hey Aaron! Could you recommend a fragrance that smells like the forest, please? I love the smell of trees and would like to find this backbone in a great fragrance that doesn't smell 80s. I'm over the pineapple thing, too. 😁
As a person who bought Aventus when it first came out in 2010, and still have a 70% full 2011 bottle, I can attest to the fact that Aventus is now completely unrecognisable from the early batches. There is no ambergris at all (this applies to all modern Creeds), and it is not even marginally better than its many current clones, especially Explorer. The 2010 batch was the best by far, and it was downhill from there to be honest, it was perfectly balanced, fruity and smoky, and was incredibly powerful; one spray would last a day in warm weather. Creed is no longer worth it even at half the price. Millesime Imperial used to be my signature fragrance, but I have since moved on from that as well because the new bottles are pathetically weak. Spend your hard-earned money elsewhere. And yes, I have bought several samples of the current batches out of curiosity.

I don't know if there is ambergris or not in the last batch of Aventus but in any case I can't find any ambroxan smell in it. For Explorer, it's a different story: after a few hours, that horrible ambroxan smell becomes prominent and stays on the skin for hours.

I use Chanel now. No need for Creed or niche.
I’ve been wearing aventus for 10 years now. I’ve called creed customer service and they said the variation is due to natural ingredients. I have noticed differences in longevity but smells overall the same to me. I get plenty of compliments on it and it’s definitely my signature scent. People may not like the price but does smell very good. Sales associates don’t go in to detail on how fragrances are constructed at any retail place I go to. I would say I go through about 2 bottles a year.

It is possible they had a great batch, distillation, and crop from the naturals from the first few batches or so. Or they switched suppliers etc. I doubt that would account for all the variations. It is more likely they either had to change formula, or did so to increase profits. You would think that the price increases would be enough to offset supply costs, but don’t ever underestimate greed.
My current favourite night out fragrance is Jeroboam Vespero, which some say is inspired by Aventus. I find it quite a lot richer.
I sampled the whole Creed line at Macy’s in Queens NYC on sep 2022. The 2 gals were so informative and allowed me to try as much as I wanted as many times as I wanted. I found that they lacked the lunch I was expecting. I had sampled Alexandria Fragrances interpretations of mayor Creed products beforehand, and they are far better than what I sampled that day from Creed. I’m definitely not buying Creed but AF instead.
I have aventus and explorer. I don't wear aventus anymore, it just doesn't last and explorer is a powerhouse. I gauge a fragrance by the compliments I get. No one has ever complimented aventus, but I continually get compliments about explorer. I'll definitely try combining them both though, never thought of doing that. Another great video.

I had 4 women go crazy at an office party over aventus on me. They said it was fantastic and memorable. So fuck it

Explorer may be powerful, but it's full of ambroxan, like many of today's fragrances. After a few hours, your skin smells of ambroxan, which is a no go for me. Projection is important, but not at the expense of fragrance.
Love to know your opinion of Green Irish Tweed and how long it lasts. This was definitely a video for me of running upstairs to get both fragrances and put them on each hand. Really surprised by your thoughts of Aventus there and I think I’ll give it a go of putting Explorer on first with Aventus over the top. (see what happens) Once I discovered Parfums De Marly I’ve never thought of Creed as much

Parfums De Marly is the king of dark fragrances AKA winter and fall fragrances, and Creed is the King of fresh fragrances. Layton has become like the Creed Aventus of Parfums De Marly. Layton gets a lot of hype and has been put in fragrance battles with Creed Aventus. Parfums De Marly has made a few fresh fragrances, but I would love for them to come out with a similar fragrance to Creed Aventus.

Pdm also watered down their top sellers, I guess its common practice now..

@@razvanyke Yes it is a common practice now, but the way Creed has done it has caused a lot of controversy. They get away with it or use the excuse that they use natural ingredients when it is in season. A lot of their customers have fell for the Creed marketing.

@@OsAbliNgin911 At least Creed seems to be staying away from ambroxan type fragrances. I wish Marly's Perfumes would stick to natural and quality components as well, but their Layton and Carlisle smell very ambroxan when they dry.
Would be nice to see a video where Aventus gets compared to Loewe Esencia EDP, which is the closest to Aventus that I have smelled whilst having a great performance.
Y'all need to watch this with headphones for the FULL ASMR affect hahaha. I love these videos.
how interesting. i also did a similar creed vs explorer field test just recently and i came across the exact same observations you made! Creed dissipated within moments of spraying. i also tried spraying a tshirt and left it inside the closet but the smell disappeared within 30 min (you can get a whiff of it IF you bury your nose into the garment wc is... bad.) meanwhile Explorer was better able to project.
Stopped by the Creed counter at Bloomingdales 60th/Lex in NYC yesterday. Gentleman at the counter was so nice, let me test anything I wanted, and even gave me a sample vial of Aventus to take home. I have noticed that it is a subtle scent that does lack longevity. By contrast, the scent of Green Irish Tweed lasted quite a bit longer.
Whenever i go to a store and ask about batch variations with creed the salesperson just straight up says it’s a mith😂😂😂😂
Explorer is literally the most versatile fragrance ever. Seriously. Any season and any occasion. School, work, meeting, casual, tuxedo, suit and tie, lunch, dinner, bar, club, date night, wedding, and anything else you can think of.
Allen from Beverly Hills Perfumery told me the earlier batches smelled like a different fragrance. Specifically he said the early ones were much more smokey. I know there's some variation, but this was quite the statement.
I bought a bottle of Explorer as soon as it got released and let me tell you, on my skin it last for at least 8 to 10 hrs, I don’t know about the newest batches
I got a sample set of Creed and went straight to the Aventus not sure what batch but it didn't last long it did however smell nice. I ended up using 1.5ml in a single sitting which did give more of a performance. Im not usually a fan of clones but prefer Club de nuit intense man edp layered under Mont blonc explorer to fill the void of the Aventus DNA without breaking the bank. If creed did put out a batch that performed better i would pay creed prices. PS i cant access your fragrance line in Australia. dying to try your line down under.
Hi Aaron, I would love to get your thoughts on Dunhill - Driven, its only around £32 for 100ml Eau De Parfum and it's by far my most complimented Frangrance I own and I own quite a few of the more expensive ones. I also get at least 8 hours out of it. A real hidden gem I think.
Hi Aaron. Can you make a video about sedley by PDM. I find that scent extremely likeable
Would love to hear your thoughts on Mancera Cedrat Boise vs Aventus
Boutiques definitely let you smell older batches that performed better before they were bought out.

I used to work in Harvey Nichols and they don't do that. Batch codes of Aventus on the testers are 2021.
Aaron you do such a great job.. I believe almost all Creed Aventus later batches have been seriously watered down or reformulated.. I can understand the different batch variations but I would never buy Creed Aventus at its prices.. A person is better off buying a clone or Mont Blanc Explorer. In 2010 I believe Creed Aventus had three batch variations.. I have a 2010 batch Z01( heavy pineapple batch) of Creed Aventus.. Very strong and it lasted on my skin for 8 hours compared to what is out now.. I understand why so many design/clone houses tried to copy this fragrance.. Example Parfum Vintage.. Excellent Clone House for Creed Aventus.. This clone house amped up its formula for Creed Aventus and it out performed Aventus ten times over..
