The capacitor wasn't out of range. It was still in tolerance. It would still be considered good until it read 42.3 mfd or below.

​@@davidparker9676 imo, replace now for that price. Or replace later when prices could go up and for a service charge. In my area, that's $250 starting. I'm a electrician, not HVAC tech. But my bias says this would be acceptable. A little more honesty maybe? He only said it was a recommendation.

@@swisscheese911 I don't disagree with recommending to replace it. I do disagree with lying to the customer and saying it is bad when it is not. I would tell the customer that in my experience it is on borrowed time and I recommend changing it before it fails on the next hot day. I would also tell the customer that if they do not change it now, it will be at a higher cost for another service call and trip charge. There is nothing wrong with a recommendation when the truth is told. I also don't have a problem telling the customer that a return "emergency" service call will be at higher emergency labor rates and parts prices.

I know that filter looked clean but looked to be installed backwards. I would pull the filter down and check the flow arrow too, as that metal filter cage/hold back is normally on the backside, sometimes both but it is there to hold the filter back from being sucked in.

Bosch technical support might be the worst of them all.

I would say cleaning coils from the inside out is ideal, but how can you tell me with a straight face that from the outside in is impeding the coil? You would see that on your pressures right away.

Can you spray something in it out gel for the truck on capacitor to keep it from rusting

just had an idea i also watch Fiber Installers. they take photos at each step and upload the photos to the service app. maybe that would help avoid people not plugging in capacitors.

The company that installed and services my generator does that. I can do everything they do but we are in So. Fl. Being on their maint. list gives you first priority if something breaks down. That's the only reason I do it. I service every other system myself. When they are done and they send you a link with all the pics it's very impressive.

Like the pool, do you have any water features. Assuming you have Jandy RS automation.

One last question on your PM HVAC visit with the replaced capacitor at $186.... If you weren't there doing PM Service.....but tou were called to visit and find out why the AC wasn't working (but NOT on a weekend nor an after hours callout)(say on a M-F during the workday) what would you have charged for the capacitor and your labor/visit to change it out? Just wondering? Thx.

That blower is weak sauce. It didn't clean much of anything. There was still a pile of leaves in the bottom of the condensing unit. I wouldn't pay for that "cleaning" service.

@@PipeDoctor You could charge her a proper fee for cleaning, charge her extra for labor to come out on a Sunday, your trade is worth the market rate and more! It is about replacing an item that still works, still within brand-new specs (10%) that bugged me. 2 years ago my 40 year old AC had 45uF degraded to 38uF and it was still running fine. A 45uF measured at 41uF will not fail in 5 years or longer.

How to talk without actually saying anything or knowing anything. Also an example of a little knowledge being a dangerous thing. Should have just let those that know do their job. Observing is not always bad, but stay quiet and learn.

@@leoaz4667 I get where ur coming from, but this isn’t the 80’s. Life’s expensive, Employee’s are expensive. I charge a below avg $150, some around me are 200-300. A lot of people don’t count that we have to go buy all these parts and supplies, store them, drive around a mobile parts store. Almost 1000lbs of parts/supplies, overpriced tools in overpriced vans around to every job. Ur not only paying for the part, ur paying for the hands and expertise along with all the costs of running a business. When my actual neighbor needed a cap I gave it to him free. If it’s too expensive you can simply decline and DIY it.
