Athena’s kids are born instantly from a thought in her mind. So, no gestation period.

And the reason why she doesn't actually get physically pregnant is because Athena is one of the three virgin goddesses of the Greek Pantheon.

even if a kid knows who their parent is, it doesn’t matter. they have to be claimed. also Luke is 19, they can stay at camp however long they want. and Luke and Thalia found Annabeth when she was 7 so yeah it was years ago. and the gods can be in multiple places at once, that’s why they have so many kids lol

Yeah, in the books, the gods have a lot of kids for the same reason that people a long time ago had a LOT of kids... Demigods usually don't make it to adulthood. It's really that simple. They get killed off most of the time. Hell, a lot of the kids don't even make it to camp half blood which is why the satyrs are protectors guiding them. They are trying to ensure that as many demigod kids as they can literally sniff out make it to camp before the monsters kill them... That is the book lore for it... In actual Greek mythology there are absolutely demigods that made it into adulthood... But I guess they were the ones strong and famous enough to have stories told about them in the PJO authors mind. Camp half blood technically is a year-round camp that the kids can stay at but if they do want to go home they absolutely have the choice to... they just leave with the full understanding that they may not come back because of the outside world is extremely dangerous for them... But also keep in mind Percy gets the extra strong monsters thrown his way because he's a forbidden child and therefore stonger than most demigods... So the monsters sent after Percy are more dangerous than ones that would be sent after other demigod children but also Percy is strong enough to be able to fight the stronger monsters off because he is a child of the big three.

Ares is Zeus son, the three big gods are the brothers: Zeus, Poseidon and Hades 😊❤ and yes the gods dont seem to have much to Do, hence many children 😅😂😂😂

I swear, any time I encounter Jason Mantzoukas in anything, I just hear Derek from the Good Place. Regarding the gestation period, gods are weird.

The original Greek Gods were created to explain various natural events that went on around them. The list grew longer as the Greeks found more things they couldn't figure out, and so blamed it on this or that god/goddess. By the time of the Romans, the Greek Gods were changed to fit Roman ideals and became Roman Gods. But to keep the Greeks "down", the also created a more messed up history for the Greek Gods, to make them more selfish, arrogant, petulant, among other things (their actions were made intentional, not randomly decided). If you want a quick sample from the show, Athena is the Daughter of Zeus. Percy is the son of Athena's uncle, Poseidon (Zeus' brother). So Annabeth and Percy are "related" already. Fortunately, the Gods don't seem to have genes like normal humans, otherwise things would really begin to get messy. This show, and I assume the books, have taken a somewhat more middle ground approach to the Gods and their behavior, between the original Greek versions, and the more messed up Roman interpretations/remakes.

If I remember the books correctly, the implication is pretty much that most demigod kids don’t really make it to adulthood 😢

As you say, there are a LOT of Greek gods. I don't think it's that only 12 have claimed their children, it's that only 12 made their homes on Mt. Olympus. The inner circle of the gods, so to speak. Would the other demigods stay in the house of Hermes - I don't know, I guess so. One has to assume that other gods had children with mortals as well - I mean, they did in stories all the time. Anyway, they never really address it in the show, and it's an interesting question. Stephen Fry recently wrote a new trilogy of collected Greek myths - I recently finished listening to the audiobook versions of them narrated by Fry himself. I can't recommend them enough if you're at all interested in Greek mythology. He's really a masterful storyteller. I do agree the number of demigod children is a little crazy. Sure, Greek gods were having kids with mortals all the time (well, the male gods were - the female gods less so), but they were still rare and special. In fact... now that I think of it, several of the Olympian godesses were noted for being virgins, Athena included, so in that sense Annabeth being a child of Athena makes no sense, nor does it makes sense to have 12 houses (there shouldn't be houses for Athena, Artemis, or Hestia). Oh well, at some point I guess you just have to shrug and accept it.

In this case Athena's children are born the same way she was out of Zeus's skull. The minor gods do have children. The Artimis and Hera cabins are there out of respect. The Artimis cabin will come in handy in season 3... if we manage to get a third season.
