I still need to order me some of those dixie tubes. Looks very convenient but I still use crisco over the ball instead of lubed wads so for my system I carry two things. An altoids like tin that contains a tin of caps, another empty cap tin filled with crisco, and lead balls. I can get about 10-15 reloads all in there and I carry the small pistol flask with correct spout separately. Not fast reloads but I think part of the joy of cap and ball revolvers is taking your time and enjoying it. Still practical either way. Great videos Blackie!

I LOVE MY LEATHER! Stained glass in an outhouse is funny. I do believe a percussion revolver in kydex is a mortal sin. Saddle soap, conditioner, snow seal are all necessary to care for leather. Great video Blackie.

Enjoyed your site as always, love the class presentation, that can be passed on to anyone at all. Doesn't everyone have stained glass, and crystal chandeliers in their outhouses? I just don't understand how some people exist! If it is any help to anyone,I have found on Etsy a leatherworker called Big Texas leather, who does many styles of holsters, pouches, etc. I find them nicely made, plain(not overly embellished) my wife and I have a fair collection of his work(Owner John Tidmore)and are well pleased with it all-I favor the Mexican loop style myself, and have a cross draw, and side style holsters for the cap and ball revolvers, as well as for a Single 10 and a Bearcat,I use an extra-wide, very heavy belt,that fits in almost no pants belt loops,worn outside as a gun belt,using a puppy paw style(3 prongs) buckle -a CSA with the S higher than the other 2 letters in a fancy floral script that just caught my eye, have holsters in brown and black,so belts the same,that style belt was hard to find,if anyone needed one I can ask the wife where on line she found them,the belts cost more than the holsters(the buckle was from Parselys brass and leather-large selection of brass things ) . Also have a nice heavily carved,multi-shaded dye ,Hollywood rig, just for the kid from the '50's still lurking in me(Hopallong eat yer heart out !) couldn't afford such things as a kid, if I was still able to take long walks in the outback(bad foot prevents that) I might go for a Cavalry holster for that. The only Kydex we have is for modern double action carry,and even have some nice softish leather holsters for them(concealed) that I actually like better than the kydex-well I guess that was long winded enough!

I stayed at a cabin of a friend that had an out house with a small window made of a stained glass sun catcher. It had a light house scene. It provided interior light in the daytime and was rather fitting in nature.

I use a USGI leather first aid pouch and Altoids tin like you mention in one of your videos for my 1858 Remy. The Dixie tubes work great, and it’s a fantastic way to carry some reloads in the field. Thanks for all the tips!

Hi Blackie, just got a new holster just like yours it is being soaked with Ballistol and fitted to a colt navy 38 Spl conversion. with a 5.5" bbl. Tight fit around the ejector but it is new yet. best in depth study of percussion revolver.

glad you like the channel..i will be doing a wet soak video soon to fit mine i took a wooden dowel and made sure to round the end..i used it to shoe horn and streach the end to fit on mine

Great video as always, I was looking for a Walker holster and think I found one modeled after Gus's from Lonesome Dove, I think cross draw will work good for that. Speaking of holsters and belts I also have a Taylor Smokewagon and just got a copy of the roughout holster Clint wore in the spaghetti westerns...has the metal lining and all....very nice.

I found a large full flap leather holster that was obviously intended for a cap gun at a flea market . The guy selling it told me it was for an antique gun and wanted antique money for it. I then pointed out the embossed logo on the flap and explained that it was the Ruger logo. and this holster couldn't possibly be older that the'60's at the earliest. I offered him 10 bucks. He took it with a red face....Nice holster: Bianchi. Heh. My '58 fits snugly............Maybe he would have taken $20 for the Old Army it went to. Hehe. Seriously, I wouldn't have done that to him....Maybe.

If you "case" a new holster by soaking it in water it becomes moldable almost like clay and can be shaped to your gun's shape by inserting the gun in the wet leather and shaping it around the gun's contours. When the leather dries it retains the shape and reduces friction against the gun.

What style sheath do you carry knife in? Where on belt do you find most comfortable and convenient? I made a but forward slim Jim out of buffalo lined with sheep for my Uberti New Model Army that fits like a glove. After watching your videos on the Pietta Sherrif model I bought a pair that actually just arrived today. Thanks for your knowledge sharing. It's much appreciated.

my knife rides in a 6 way sheath from stichgear.com...if i wear a side arm the knife rides on left side in a sort of cross draw position..glad you like the videos thanks for the comment safe journeys

@@winfieldjohnson125 It was a Walker, but Rooster (incorrectly) calls it a Dragoon, since it was a Dragoon in the book.

I’ve had knives and pistols corrode when stored in leather for long term. I never store stuff in a leather holster or case. Just my experience. What have you seen.

swamp fox is correct..i suggest the 58 with the full frame and fix sights its closer to our modern guns..and thus more familuar to begin with

@@blackoracle69 I was gifted a pietta 1860 army and now I’m hooked on the black powder. It came with a modern holster I immediately was like nope that’s not going to work looking at the old school leather gunslinger stuff now lol can’t allow that to be it’s home.

Is that stormborne? Looks less patina'd in this video. Maybe I am just getting used to my ugly beast and yours looks real purty in comparison.
