PERCUSSION REVOLVER SERIES MASTER CLASS SIGHTS

Ойын-сауық

the sights on percussion revolvers is often crude at best.with a little understanding of how they work and a little adjustment you can get the accuracy to better suit your needs

Interesting and highly informative as usual, Blackie. Anyone can profit from this tutorial, regardless of C & B experience. I especially liked your emphasis on consistency. That really is the key to good accuracy, regardless of firearm.

GREAT PRESENTATION. I have used most of what explained sighting in my percussion pistols. I have 6 or 7 I shoot. But on most I had to find the correct power charge first. I have an 1860 army that at under 25 grains 3F is a pattern. I also have one that is squirrelly above 25. Remember to quick clean between each change in powder charge. Happy shooting 😁.

When I rode with General Grant we rarely had Colts. Most were Starr revolvers, Elgin Cutlass pistols, and the S&W mod 1 with Arkansaa toothpicks, and bowie knifes. Sometimes we would grab Colts dropped by Yanks but not too often. We used a lot of raccoon and opossum grease on the guns and stole most of our powder. We used lead cut out of the wounded and dead and reused it. We had a few carbines but mostly percussion rifles and a few sawed off shotguns.

Very good information and demonstration, when I was first shooting back in 1970 I could have really used this. What I did back then was what I had read that if you want to hit a man in the chest aim at his belt buckle. I used that on my Colt Peacemaker and my BP revolvers. One exception was my Remington New Model Army, it hit pretty much on target just like my new one I have. Of Course two different revolvers. Im looking forward to the video on your new 1860 Army with the fluted cylinder. Have a great day!

Blackie as with your rattle snake shoothing, remember they are pit vipers, therefore you point your pistol at them after they have raised their heads, you then slighty move the gun side to side and notice the snakes movements with your movement. then stop and fire, your barrel will be aligned with the snakes head/neck and your bullet will take its head off.

I have watched your other videos dealing with this subject, and this one was a great addition to those. I had a question about the front sight. If you modify that after you have modified the rear sight won't that throw the adjustment you've made to the rear sight off? Or is it such a small adjustment that it doesn't really matter? Also, I'm assuming you don't want to get into the hammer face when deepening the rear sight, correct?

  • @blackoracle69

the mod to the front sight is minor and really doesnt effect much..just helps with the sight picture and reduces the glare i spoke of..also the sight part of the hammer does not hit anything so it doesnt hurt to cut it the hammer face where it impacts the cap will become work hardened over time

@@blackoracle69 I have a new model army from pietta bought used that jams up tight when uncocking it back to half cock. Saying it another way, fully cock the hammer than thumb it down only to half cock by releasing the trigger as soon as the hammer is free. That will lock up the trigger, hammer and cylinder every time. Because the hand is still up, and the paw is still out. Is the paw supposed to be out at full cock? This jam can also happen when cocking the hammer, if you miss your stroke and mess it up. I've search around and it's very hard to find clear advice on addressing this problem

The front site on my model '49 is a tiny brass "barley corn" (shiny aim point).. since the '49 is a short range defensive arm would it be impractical to range the rear site..? Anything past about 15yds would be a stretch for the little thing..

true if the front sight is not tall enough then what you have is a close range belly gun..it would be of some use to widen the rear much like a fix sighted revolver today will have a groove in top strap instead of rear sight for a quick point down the trench and shoot sort of thing
