    Enjoyed the video. On the stocks, I think you will find that Formby's Lemon Oil works better than linseed on preserving wood. Guitarists use it on the rosewood fretboards of their guitars for yearly maintenance.

    A good method for preventing cross threading screws is to first turn them counter clockwise until you feel that first thread " drop " in . Then begin turning clockwise .

    Thank you for this great video Blackie. I was having a bolt timing issue with my old Euroarms Brescia New Model Army .44 revolver. After disassembly and reassembly following your directions, the bolt locking/timing issue was resolved. I now have renewed interest in shooting my one and only black powder cap and ball handgun. Cheers!

    I have an Uberti 1858 new model army revolver in .44 caliber with a blued steel frame and an 8 inch barrel. I’ve never stripped it down even though I took the percussion cylinder out and I use my Howell fluted .45 colt cartridge conversion cylinder with it. I’ve never used the percussion cylinder. I specifically bought the piece last summer for use with a Howell drop in cartridge conversion cylinder and I bought that Howell cylinder at the same time I bought the piece. I also bought me a couple of boxes of HSM .45 colt 200 grain cowboy loads for it and in the past 6 months since I took it shooting for the first time last October I’ve taken her out shooting a total of 5 sessions and put about a box and a half worth of rounds through her. I made a video of my most recent shooting session this past Sunday and posted it on my channel. I was doing a 5 shot session firing 5 shots from about 30 feet away at a cantaloupe. That’s the distance that my piece shoots the best from and cantaloupes are my favorite targets

    I just replaced the hammer spring on my Remington. Not sure what may have been the problem but the spring snapped off just beyond the folded over portion. Ordered the parts kit from Cabela's. The new spring looked identical but it was ever so slightly straighter than the original and had to make some adjustments to fit it in. Now I'm back up and running. Just need to get to the range.

    Please? If you can answer why the handspring breaks and the proper way to replace it and time it. I have done this. I used a stone to get a proper fit. It was a Pietta rebuild kit. as I understand these guns the bulk parts well, require some hand fitting. that being said I have old mechanics hands pulling that hammer back is not my problem. my concern is losing the temper on the internal parts. I'm not a big man 5 ft. 8 in. 180 LBS. my average. destroyed vice gripes of any size faster than I could buy them. yes, my guns have battle scars my hands shake and I've beat the h3ll out of them. I've had some whoops ah sh!t. (dumping .451 round balls in with .454's) both seem to work just fine, yes, I always check the ring ramming it home but throw in a Waud to be on the safe side. I have one-cylinder empty nipples removed that I use to train each hand cocking and returning. why two hands? (misfires) even today you can get a dud on modern ammo. Yeah, old soldier let's keep the oh sh!t! to a minimum.

    Hey Blackie, What should i do if the cylinder isn't turning when i speed cock it? Seems that cylinder doesn't turn at all, or turns too far...i was having a problem with the tiny hand screw seating too far, to where it actually threaded past flush, and the hand could move. I thought i had everything perfect.

    Dear Mr. Thomas, Thank you for sharing this knowledge with us, it is very helpful, one of the best channels for C&B revolvers. I have recently purchased 1861 Uberti replica, also "london" model, and i have two question regarding Cylinder gap and wedge. When i cock revolver it is tight fit, but when the hammer is lowered, the cylinder is moving back and forward a little, and that "rattle" is whats bothering me. Just want to ask is that normal? And how much should wedge be tapped in? On my Uberti, the wedge positively "click" when inserted, but it can be tapped much further in. Should i leave it as it is, or should I give it to gunsmith to make a new wedge that is wider? Best regards!

  • @blackoracle69

    @blackoracle69

    4 жыл бұрын

    the slight forward movement is normal..and the wedge should just go in and the tooth of the spring click up to prevent the wedge from walking out while firing..as the gun ages and is soot a lot the wedge will seat further in..as wear happens on the surfaces

    I would also add that if you plan on shooting it more than a cpl hundred times while you own it, invest the extra money in getting the steel frame models. The brass frames get a gap between the cylinder and the barrel fairly quickly. Also, if you ever want to get a conversion cylinder to fire modern ammo, the steel frame is a must and the Remington with it's top strap is much sturdier than the colt. Just my opinion...others may have better luck or prefer the colts. Either way, enjoy yourself and be safe
