Perch and Chub fishing - roving about on the river Blackwater (video 42)
Спорт
A lovely little river in Hampshire and one I have been meaning to fish for some time, so with that in mind and with thoughts of perhaps increasing my rather small Perch pb, I decide to cut down on the fishing gear and do some exploring, roving about in many different intimate swims, with a twin tip quivertip and link ledger.

Thank you Sam, it is always really nice to know that someone has enjoyed sharing in the fishing trip with me via these youtube videos.
Cheers George, it was a very nice mixed bag of fish and an enjoyable days roving on a river that has recovered to a very high level over the years.
That is very kind of you to say that, I absolutely adore fishing, not just the fishing but the way it brings us closer to wildlife and nature itself, thank you for taking the time to post comment and for subscribing, I hope you enjoy the other videos.
Thanks fella, nice to hear from another angler such as yourself whom likes fishing small waterways, they are so very special indeed. Glad you enjoyed the video and thank you for the positive comment.
Cheers mate, the Perch made my day and it is a beautiful little waterway.
Cheers mate, it is a beautiful little water and one as an angler you can lose yourself in, exploring numerous little swims. The fish are in great condition too.
It was really enjoyable and the Pike at the end was a nice suprise, specially on the centrepin.
Why thank you very much, glad you enjoyed it and I very much appreciate you taking the time to leave a comment too, the Perch in this river do have some really vivid coloured markings, it's a wonderful little river, full of lovely little features and surprises that I am yet to uncover. A real pity right now the state the rivers are in with all the flooding though, worset I have seen since 2007.
Cheers Nick, glad you found it enjoyable and it is nice to know that it has made you want to get back out on the pin. The centrepin is a TFG classic centrepin and the rod used here was a very inexpensive and in my opinion highly underrated Avanti Hyperactive Twin Tip rod, comes with a heavy tip and a light 2oz quiver, I don't believe they are produced any more, but at the time cost something like £20. Where you see me fishing in this video and where I had the Perch is actually free fishing.
The colours on those perch with a thing to behold mate. Great fishing :)
Yes they have some really resplendent markings and very healthy too, as were all the fish that I caught. The waters lovely and clear with some nice gravel runs.
Cheers Chris and thank you for the kind comment, the upper Parrett sounds just my cup of tea, I bet it is a real roving water as well. Such places at times thrive on neglect. I will give your club a search online and take a look, thanks once again chap.
And thank you too, it is a pleasure to share them with you.
Thanks Fred, yes it was a nice days roving and a real mixed bag, the river has a very nice variety of species.
Thanks, for the positive feedback, sorry to hear about your local river, a common theme these days pollution and sewage disposal into our rivers, I have a brook near me that is only just recovering from a massive sewage spillage a couple of years ago. There needs to be bigger fines for the damage caused, else it will keep on happening.
great video. really makes a nice change to see true enthusiasm. 10 out of 10
Fantastic vid, lovely river and stunning perch.
Hello there and thank you for the kind comment, they do indeed have some very vivid colours on the Blackwater.
Brilliant video, loverly little river, and well done on the new pb mate! Fenland
Great vid, really enjoyed it. Your love of fishing really comes through in the film. Off to watch more of yours now and subscribed.
thats the sort of fishing i love great video lets have some more reminds me of what my local cherwell used to be like before thames water turned it into a sewage ditch great mate
great video mark and some lovely fish
If you want to catch really big perch, and you don't have a problem with live baiting, do it. I was once catching small roach on single maggot and when I put them back there was a massive splash right next to the bank that sent water up then bank and onto my shoes. This happened five times so I tied a size 6 hook to my line and attached the roach to it with its top lip. I lowered it in slowly and instantly a big perch took hold. That's how I caught my PB 4lb perch.
Thanks Simon, glad that you enjoyed the video. The Pike really did give a good fight, I was wondering if I was going to land it or not as it decided to start tail walking when I finally got it to the net. It made for a nice way to round the trip off.
Cheers for the advice. I was really tempted to change my setup and put one of the Gudgeon out for a Perch. By the way that's a lovely pb, I certainly would love a Perch of that size.
Thanks mate, always nice to know.
Hello and thank you very much, I certainly can do, although this particular river does get heavily choked with weed in summer due to the amount of water being taken from it / abstracted.
Thank you Peter.
I really enjoyed the vid, will be watching a few more.
Hello there Dom and thank you for your kind words, now if you had said you was in Oxford it would have been easier for me to recommend some places, however I think if you search for "Amalgamated Fisheries LTD" on google , this was a club that was formerly Bristol and Wiltshire angling. They have lots of rivers including the Bristol Avon among others on the ticket and it looks like a great selection of river venues. Ticket is £40 as far as I know. I hope that is of some use to you mate.
Hello there Jamie, thank you for the kind offer that is very good of you, however the Roden is up in Shropshire and I do not drive yet, so rely on family to take me to the places I do fish, so it could prove pretty difficult for me to get to Shropshire in reality mate, really am sorry, it is times like this that I could kick myself for not having my own vehicle.
That is a really sad to hear, I never knew that Perch from rivers in your region were becoming more rare. Yes I know exactly what you mean regarding that Pike, it gave some very adrenaline fuelled moments on the pin, zipping line off as it sprinted for the weed bed coverage. With the possibility of more rain returning next week sometime, I think things will take a considerable amount of time to get better and the damage to fish recruitment when this happens is a disaster.
great video mark you had a nice mixed bag
Hi, great vid and some nice fish (well done on the pb perch!!). Would you mind doing a video on catching perch on lures or spinners please?? Best wishes and tight lines!
Thanks for the video.
Great fishing Mark and a wonderful style of fishing. Very similar to our club water in Somerset on the upper Parrett that gets very little pressure as most fish for carp on the commercials round here (their loss). Search for our club water online Stoke-sub-Hamdon Angling Club. Keep up the great work.
Cheers Chap.
great video!!!
It really does doesn't it, cheers Chris
fantastic video and some cracking fish too......it`s shown me what i`ve been missing. Time to pack away the lure rods, dust off the pin reels and get back on the rivers and back brooks, for chub and perch and barbel etc...... Out of intrest mark, what pin and rod were you using and is the blackwater day ticket or club book ????
Cheers fella
