The problem is financing. If you need a home loan, then you can’t get one because it is too unique. You have to have comparison appraisals from homes like yours in the local area or the banks nor the VA will loan the money for building.

A guy up on the hill about 1 mile from my home built a round house in the 70's. I bought a vehicle from him once and had the opportunity to see his home from the inside. The wind just blows around it.

If people are able to set up shop for their belongings, and have enough room for a bed and a place to eat and hook up a tv or computer and it only costs them $200 a month or was that $100 for the two months they were there, then what is the harm in building these tiny homes in all cities with a homeless problem and try and clean things up for them, give them a home an address so they can get a job. Give them something to be responsible for and to take care of and make them proud of themselves and their friends. Why not do this instead of doing shit that just continues the cycle for more homelessness, drug abuse, poverty and gang violence.

I spent most of last year a half an hour away from where i normally live, and there was a world of difference between winter at altitude and winter in my actual home. On cold wintry days without sunlight up in the hills, i would only see the sun after coming over to the north side and beginning the descent from Mount Lofty. Its a small mountain but high enough to have its own climate.

Would make for a great hideout

The underground fridge is like the old fashion root cellars. Berm houses would be great for tornado alley. It's not like you have just an entrance and thats it. You can expose a section of the house but keep the majority underground. Much safer than hiding in the bathtub.

Lol. It’s called a cellar. Been around for hundreds of years in different forms . Some were actually dirt. My grandparents was made from cement blocks. My grandmother kept all her home canned fruits snd vegetables in it. Always cool. During tornado season we always used it as a shelter , which was its primary use in Oklahoma

I knew some neighbours who turned a nuclear shelter my dad sold then into a tornado shelter. Later, it got bigger and became their home. They could park on the roof, but over time-with new owners who didn't keep it up, the roof leaked and eventually fell in and the home was demolished. A McMansion was built in place.

Looking at the over the top, totally impractical, designs from the 60's and 70's makes you wonder where all the daring, nutty, and fun designers/architects went.

The door should open in. When the door opens out it can be blocked by debris or lock you in by a malicious person.

There is a guy near where I live who lives underground without running water, electricity etc. He has a wood stove, propane lights and an out house. He gets his water from the community well and a friend lets him shower and do laundry at their house.

If you want to convert CO2 to o2 in a greenhouse, to the point you can breathe normally, use algae. Line the walls facing the sun with long shelves of algae cans. Then plant the fastest growing bamboo plant everywhere else. You have to focus on quantity of air exchange

Hello there, how are you doing today?

Been living in our earth sheltered home for over 30 years. Living in western okla. Tornadoes and hail are a big concern for normal houses but not for us. Several years ago huge hail storm took out most roofs in our area.The dirt on our house had some dents in the ground on top of our house. Mostly sleep through storms that come our way.

I've been to the mushroom house! Not in it, but I live near there and have gone to the park where the house is. Kinda cool to happen to stumble upon this.

Imagine a tent covering a house roof. Raised a foot about the roof to allow air flow but block the sunlight. Probably lower heat being transmitted into the house from the attic. Cheap to make. The problem would be "it doesn't look traditional." Building code police wouldn't like it.

We make our bottles out of stone. It never occurred to me the we could use them for a building material.
