15 Zombie Proof Houses You’ll Regret Not Seeing

Музыка

Most folk are of the opinion that zombies are nothing but imaginary creatures, dreamt up by director George A. Romero. But some people think a very REAL ‘The Walking Dead’ style scenario is imminent, and theyhave been prepping for when ‘excrement hits the room-cooling device’, some of them going to extraordinary lengths to keep their homes safe when the dead rise. These are zombie proof houses you’ll regret not seeing!

You know, other survivors might actually be the bigger issue. In most zombie lore I've read, zombies sort of fade into the background as one more dangerous thing in the world. They are predictable and hence manageable. They can be deceived, tripped up, captured and dealt with. They have a single motivation, and that is to feed. They make no plans. Most of them, at least. People, on the other hand, make plans, and that makes them infinitely more dangerous. And people able to survive the first period of an outbreak will no doubt be more ferocious, more aggressive, tenacious and straight up more dangerous than 90% of the ones that ended up as walking dead. The zombie outbreaks distills the badassery of human kind to 90% proof.

The tiny house on the island was built and owned by a sheep farmer and his wife a long time ago (60s-70s I think), it has electricity via generator too. Bjork does own it but I can't speak to whether or not she lives there. I got to visit the island when I went to Iceland a few years ago, we were able to look at the house from a short distance but couldn't go inside or get too close.

A little off the topic but you hear a lot of folks say "I'll just go to the woods to hide out and live off the land". Those woods are going to be mighty crowded and there isn't enough game to support all those people. It would take at least one growing season if you plant crops and then you you're dependent on the weather. "Bug out bags" and "bugout vehicles" are only good for getting you home from work. The ideal situation (besides not needing it) is to fortify your home. Stock up on food, have large containers of water, have a way to purify water and have solar/wind generators and industrial batteries. Your home also has to be secure, because if you have it, and others don't they'll try to take it eventually. In about 90 days, things will have shaken out. If you're lucky, you'll have some neighbors who are like minded and you can work together. Strength in numbers.

And yes… I would still want to survive, no matter the apocalyptic situation that might occur. Of course, that’s just me…and as long as I have my dog for company, I’m cool with no people being around. The first house is actually a brilliant idea for seasonal homes, although with a bit less concrete and steel, it’s sort of storm shutters on steroids. If you build a home/cabin in a largely vacation community, that will sit empty most of the year, a feature like this would be great. Think about it, at the end of the season, you shut everything down than turn a key and watch as concrete slabs cover all the windows and doors, thus protecting them not only from intruders but also from Mother Nature. Maybe include a solar panel powered ventilator on the roof to move a small, but constant amount of air through the structure to keep it from getting stale and the odor soaking into the fabrics used around the house. The reason I saw have that solar powered is firstly it wouldn’t be needed during the winter, at least in northern climates, but also because that would allow you to completely shutdown the power to the home, while a panel or small array would provide plenty of power to move some air when it’s sunny out, and your only electrical concern could be isolated on the roof, and made in such a way that even if the entire circuit fried and melted it wouldn’t catch the main structure on fire.

ever since I saw pictures of the Bjork islands before they even had that name, I thought of how to self sustain them. islands like that truly are the best potential long term homes. Needs a LOT of work to get it there tho. 1: underground storage, lots of it. storing seeds, solar panels/batteries, general repair equipment for electronic/plumbing needs. food preservation area. animal husbandry equipment, and agricultural equipment of course a small armory and fishing gear. green house equipment for year round agriculture needs as well as planting things that normally wouldn't grow there. 2: stock island with fruit trees and basic livestock for sustained food sources and all nutritional needs. 3: books and entertainment area preferably built underground 4: lower the living quarters underground. by the looks of the island you could have 3-4 stories underground before hitting the water table even at high tide. 5: someone wealthy enough could even build the James Bond villains type of secret entrance for boats to get on and off the island.

The paranoia is terrifying with Meth, and anything could set someone off on a bad trip and if they have access to things like machete's or guns, ya, it could happen. More often though. Don't underestimate plant roots. They even eat away through bricks and concrete over time and will break through roofs and such, and they will breed insects and other creatures that find shelters in trees, so this vertical garden plan is honestly unfeasible in the long term. Unless you're fully enshrouded in an equally tall and wide glass structure that functions as a green house, your wide open vertical garden apartment will only invite more tenants than just yourself.

The "urban vertical forest". I like the common sense idea. I just hope they follow through and make sure the buildings can handle the additional weight of so many plants, trees and tons of wet/damp soil. Italy is prone to earthquakes, especially near its volcanos. I'd hate for it to just be more death raining down.

  • @MrItaliansound

Milan is a fairly safe city from an earthquake point of view, it is located in the middle of the Po Valley whose subsoil is sandy / clayey, this type of soil softens and absorbs earthquakes, and their propagation waves . As for volcanoes, the closest active volcano is located in Naples at about 800 km. (500 miles) far away.

I'm a sailor and been out on boats for weeks at a time. On a boat, you are very limited as far as supplies and everything breaks on boats. You are really tied to the next port for parts to repair what broke on the last passage. That plus in a SHTF situation, every other boat will be short on supplies and looking to pirate other boats so be ready to defend. Long term, it's not viable but for 3-6 weeks it might be fine if the turmoil settles in that time. Get way offshore, turn off your AIS, take down your radar reflector and hope all the power boats burn up all their fuel.

From an engineering perspective (it's a curse being one sometimes) What are you going to do about the root growth through the walls and structure once those trees get a certain size? You can't dig them up, trim the roots and replant. Nice concept but the amount of problems this will cause idk is sustainable. Time will tell.
