Matt also completely solos the live version of It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year. The album version features guest artists. I didn't write down the link for videos from the tour last year but there's at least one good one on KZread. Those are his only two completely solo songs thusfar. He has solos within songs in more than 40, though.

This song is one that gives a lot of reactors a Mitch-slap. If they're familiar with the original Dion-Bocelli version of the song, they expect that Kirstie is going to be singing the female lead - and then Mitch comes out, and sings it flawlessly, and seemingly effortlessly! Pentatonix has a habit of putting 1 or 2 non-Christmas songs on their Christmas albums - and voila! Instant Christmas song!

It is actually Kirstie singing the high notes not Kevin. There was an interview in a musician's mag that Kevin gave. If you have seen it live Kevin isn't singing at that point.

I'll add another vote for watching Recording of Evergreen - a mini documentary, it shows snippets of them working on several songs for their Christmas album, including this one. And, in the background, you can hear Kevin (I think), say something like 'we'll never have to hire a choir again' because they did all the background support harmonies. It is SO beautiful.

I always love Mitch anyway but this song is my favourite one where he takes the lead. Such a beautiful, angelic voice with so much heart. I love the whole thing but the bit from “We ask that life be kind…” gets me so much every single time. He’s a musical genius.

Their version of Amazing Grace is stunning and features solos from everyone, including Matt. There's a surprise solo at the very end but I won't spoil it. If you want a crushingly beautiful original song of theirs, check out Run to You. Avi rumbles my soul in that one. And the harmonies are unreal! In their Daft Punk Medley, not only does Avi have tons of amazing bass singing, but he also tag teams with some bassy sound effects in tandem with Kevin's beatboxing. I know most vocal coaches prefer to react to live performances, but for the Daft Punk Medley, I really would stick with the official music video, because the visuals HAVE to be seen. Incredible editing and effects considering they were on a shoestring budget and recorded the video parts in a closet.

I love Kirstie's voice, but for that ethereal quality you want Mitch every time. Kirstie does a fantastic job adding her volume and harmonies when Mitch is ready to start belting. And notice that whenever there's a break in the percussion Kevin is adding in his high harmonies as well. Pentatonix includes non-Christmas music on their Christmas albums all the time. (This is fair, since pentaholics tend to listen to their Christmas albums year-round anyway.) Then they try to make the official videos for those non-Christmas songs look more Christmas-like to justify the inclusion. So for instance on "Hallelujah," which isn't even religious despite the Old Testament references in the lyrics, when they shot the official video in the Mojave Desert they were all wearing warm winter clothing, even though the temperature was around 98° Fahrenheit on the day they shot it. ("Hallelujah" was released on their 2016 Christmas album, _"A Pentatonix Christmas.")_ "The Prayer" was released on their 2021 Christmas album, _"Evergreen."_ You are correct; it isn't really a Christmas song, though it certainly fits the holiday. For this one they could rely on the beautiful set to make the Christmas connection, so they were able to wear normal clothing despite the "snow" (and I love Scott's suit). According to everyone in Pentatonix, Scott is the member most likely to forget the lyrics, so of COURSE his voice was the best choice for Andrea Bocelli's part 🤦‍♀️. No, Scott doesn't speak Italian; he had to memorize this by rote, and he worked very hard to get the pronunciation right. I'm told that he succeeded.

Lovely reaction and analysis! Some good Matt selections would be "You're a Mean One Mr Grinch," "90's Dance Medley" and "Mad World." Some good Avi selections would be "Light in the Hallway (original PTX song)," "Standing By, (original PTX song)" "Bohemian Rhapsody" and "Say Something." For outstanding bass parts that aren't solos, I really love Matt in "New Rules/Are You That Somebody," and "Attention," and Avi in "Daft Punk (Grammy Winner)," "Love Again (original PTX song)," and "Problem."

Please, please feel free to load us up with as many PTX videos as you care to. It’s always so lovely when a new, knowledgeable reactor starts fangirling with the rest of us. I can just imagine the ongoing conversation among the band members to try and find the perfect snowfall sound, complete with heavier plops. When you do check out Recording Evergreen (as others have noted), you’ll get a look at just how precisely they compose those backgrounds. There’s also a bit of Kevin leading a body percussion part that I really like. Mad World is a good song for Matt, a bit more introspective for the band. Thanks for keeping on with Pentatonix, I really enjoyed your reaction. Peace …

If you want more Mitch slap moments, "Bohemian Rhapsody" contains at least three, along with the equivalents for every other member of the band. It's a tour de force. For more of Matt I recommend listening to a recent live stream of "Hallelujah"; Matt really gets to show off in the second verse. This is from the Hollywood Bowl, at the beginning of their 2022 Christmas tour: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eKWkysqJkdPRn8Y.htmlsi=tC6Ew07JGeQKQvDL For a song where Kirstie gets to belt out the high notes I recommend the live performance of "Seasons of Love" that they filmed for a PBS Fourth of July special: kzread.info/dash/bejne/o4Nkk7aChruZg7A.htmlsi=6rvdSc5ziFJgkMXW For Scott, I recommend his new love song, "Four." This is the official video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/moGMtNdtgdjJXdI.html and here he is singing it to Mark at their wedding reception: kzread.info/dash/bejne/gp2NlquYf7rTY8o.html For more of Kevin I recommend his KOver of "Down": kzread.info/dash/bejne/e3ueyZNyY8uaf84.html And for the most gorgeous harmonies Pentatonix has ever produced I recommend their original song (written by Avi and Kevin) "Run to You." Pure ear candy. For more of Avi, you have a plethora of choices, basically, anything from Pentatonix dated before 2017. Beyond that: • Here is Avi's personal channel, where you can hear everything he's produced since leaving Pentatonix: youtube.com/@AviKaplanMusic • It doesn't include his deepest bass notes, but when Scott wrote a lullabye for his nephew he asked Avi to sing it; look for "Light in the Hallway." • Avi made a guest appearance with Home Free to sing "Ring of Fire"; to my ear he and Tim Foust together sound exactly like Johnny Cash. • Try Pentatonix's official video for "Aha!"; I'm pretty sure Avi was singing overtones on the really low notes in that one.

Some of best of Avi songs are Love Again, O Come All ye Faithful, and Imagine. Matt is great in Come Along, the live versions of Hallelujah and Run to You, and a fantastic bass riff in Havana. PTX is always focused on perfecting the sound and music. They’re never concerned about themselves or equal time. If Ben and Scott and the rest of the band, which includes Matt, thought Matt should have had a bigger role to get to the perfection you just experienced, he would have had it. As a member of the PentaholiX, you can assume that they thought of it, tried it, tweaked it, or threw it out in favor of what’s best. Watch the docu-video of the recording of Evergreen, as a performer, you’ll appreciate the process.

The song was originally recorded completely in English by Celine Dion and completely in Italian by Andrea Bocelli. Of course, that was for a movie soundtrack ( _Quest for Camelot_ ), and it didn't become a hit till they released a combined version with them singing together. Pentatonix sing it with the original English lyrics, as Celine sang it solo.

Amazing Grace, I Just Called to Say I Love You, and God Only Knows are all on their various Christmas albums. Scott, Mitch and Kirsten went to a public high school together. The high note might be Kevin (or Mitch is double tracked). I definitely hear Mitch on a lower note. I know there’s a live version out there somewhere where it might be easier to tell who is where.

Pentatonix has taken non Christmas songs and thrown them into their Christmas albums. Hallelujah is another example.
