👋😃👉Yes the guy in the gray hoodie is Ben Bram. The unofficial 6th member. Ben has been with PTX since they were on The Sing Off show in 2011. He was an arranger and scout for the show. After PENTATONIX won the 3rd season of the series he stayed with the group. The main arrangers are Ben, Scott, Kevin and Avi. BUT they ALL have a say and contribute to the process. Everyone's opinion is heard and respected. They work together SO WELL and genuinely like each other, and are just very nice people, very down to Earth. I know people want to see drama, bickering, fighting arguments ect.. PENTATONIX are NOT those people though. There is more than 30 hours of footage but the guy filming who is also named Ben, Ben Housdorf is currently engaged to Kirstie and they have a baby girl together. For years Ben was the official videographer/photographer for the group. After their summer tour this year he decided to move in to new endeavors but still makes appearances at the concerts. Kirstie and Ben are getting married this coming year. Ben said that he cut down about 30 hours of footage to these few minutes because it was very repetitive. He said he was a fly on the wall and he was fascinated by their process because he had not seen them actually record together after being with them all these years. This Album Evergreen was nominated for a Grammy last year. They are nominated again for last year's Holidays Around The World. 🌟A LOT of their stuff is Grammy worthy

they leave ego behind the close door. what best for the song they choose on the end. the trio(scott, kirstin and mitch) know each other years before starting group.

All of the attention to detail in the "Over the River" segment are all background vocals that comprise about 20 seconds of the song. Listen for them when you here the song again. I love the appreciation ans admiration they have for each other's talents.

This recording shows the dedication and attention to detail that makes them so spectacular. They brainstorm and try different things - it's just amazing to watch them go. They respect each other and work together so well - and they have fun! Ben Bram is definitely the 6th member of the group. His ear is amazing. It's fun to listen to each of these songs now that you know what went into it. "Over the River" is fantastic.

since way back when they won the Sing Off, I thought they were simply magical, each one of them, but I don't think Kirstie gets quite the credit and attention she deserves. I must compliment you on recognizing her talent and contribution to the magic. There are several songs they do where she takes the lead, or has a solo. Say Something, The Wizard of Ahhs, Daft Punk, and many more. I would love to hear what you have to say.

I love when someone knowledgeable watches this and they can see how much work they put into their music. They make it look so easy, sometimes it’s deceiving. I recommend PopSpring 2016, it’s a live video, professionally recorded so the sound quality is excellent, it includes 3 originals and the evolution of Michael Jackson, my favorite song of theirs is Can’t Sleep Love, but only this video where we get a special Mitch addition that you have to see to understand.

I believe one of their strengths is their total openness with each other. On the start of the "Over the river" Mitch directly asked Scott on how the particular segment should go and Scott agreed. During their competition of the "Sing Off" it recorded many sessions such as this on each episode. The show is where they started working with Ben Braun who was working with the show as advisor for all the groups. Even after 3 Grammys, Billions of KZread views and platinum records they still communicate with each other the same way as they did when they recorded "Radio" in one of their parent's homes while they were still in high school.

They have shown some of their arraigning process in other bts. All five often work out the initial arraignment, often in down time while they are touring. They recorded their initial work on a phone and send to Ben (yes, gray shirt). Ben flushes out the arraignment, puts to sheet music and with all six or a subgroup work out the final arrangement. It’s pretty fascinating process.

Like you, I was so disappointed when it was over. I could’ve watched for another hour or two. Love seeing this side of them. It’s easy to see from this that although they’re consummate professionals, they’re also genuinely good people who respect and care for each other. Explains why their music is so magical.

Great reaction. I knew you would like this peek into their process. My apologies if you have reacted to any of these songs but I think they are new to you: to see their pure 5 part harmony their original Run To You is awesome. For Fun their originals Sing, Coffee in Bed, Prayers for this World, Be My Eyes and Love Again are great. For covers Imagine, Bohemian Rhapsody, I Just Called To Say I Love You, Perfect, Say Something, Mad World, Shallow, Can You Feel the Love, For something different : Problem, Can’t Hold Us, New Rules x Are You That Somebody, La La Latch Their evolutions and medleys like Evolution of Michael Jackson and 90’s Dance Medley are awesome ( and yes they can perform them live. ) Pop Spring 2016 has 3 original songs and the Michael Jackson evolution live, a great watch. With Lindsey Stirling I like Over the River, Papaoutai and Radioactive.

they truly trust each other's judgment and respect each other's opinion enough to at least give whatever it is a try. also they trust that ben is gonna do his damndest to make sure they all sound good in the end and they trust and respect his input. that's what makes them such a great team, including ben.

Thanks Juliet. I guess that answered an earlier question I had about their involvement in the musical arrangements, That was fascinating to see how they 'evolved' a song by adding here, taking away there - great team work! It's clear to see how they have maintained such a high standard.

They also do the initial arrangement as a group. They improvise and do a rough outline of who takes what part, specific moments and such. They record it on a voice memo on the phone and send to Ben who cleans it up (or "deciphers what he can" as they said, haha) and finesses it a bit. Turns it in to sheet music and they tweak it and learn it from there

Thank you so much for your exploration of their process. I learned a lot. Ben Hausdorff directed this video. He used to be PTX's videographer, but recently left that position. He is also Kirstie's fiancée. They are getting married in 2024. They have a daughter together who is 17 months old. Kevin and Scott use their hands and arms a lot when they perform. Kirstie wears her glasses a lot when she is not performing. This album was nominated for a Grammy and their next album Holidays Around the World is nominated this year for a Grammy. Kevin is very talented with arranging and writing songs. Matt, having graduated from Berklee College of Music, lends a lot of helpful ideas for their music. I love Kevin's laugh. He laughs easily. Jacob Restituto, another reactor, interviewed Ben Hausdorff about his role in recording this. Ben said he had hours and hours of tape to sift through to make this video a manageable length.

I saw an interview where Kevin was talking about how they drink so much water, because staying hydrated is necessary to properly care for their voices. But drinking a lot of water also means needing a lot of burps. So Kevin finally decided he needed to incorporate burps into the percussion, and that's what he's done. Kirstin gave him a dirty look.

Ben generally starts with piano music (piano being his instrument) and from that he creates an arrangement with the voices of Pentatonix in mind. Once they have Ben's arrangement for a starting place the whole group gets involved suggesting good ways to do it, changes in who sings what (possible only because they all have such huge ranges so there's a lot of overlap), etc.. Since Ben has been with them practically since the beginning he's VERY familiar with their voices and individual strong points, so his arrangements for them tend to be spot on.

They have known each other and worked together for so many years by now that the process seems smooth and easy - but, man, that attention to detail! This is why I love when professionals react to this one. You point things out that I would never catch, so thanks so much. More than the expense of spending time in the studio, it’s my suspicion that it’s time that’s the thing they don’t want to squander. They are always so busy with quite the work ethic. These BTS videos on individual songs as well as them on tour are so interesting and show the large supporting staff that contribute so much to making the magic. When one considers the amount of output they have had even from the beginning, it is awesome that they are able to sustain that effort. And the last spate of Christmas videos just released indicate that they just keep getting better.

You mentioned how much time they take to get even small parts absolutely perfect. It took them 5 years to get Bohemian Rhapsody just right for recording. I also like the part of this video where Mitch says, "Scott, I think we should switch" and Scott replies, "Ok." Like it was no big deal at all. They show zero ego. It's all about the music. Speaking of switching between lead and harmony: a perfect example of that is shown in a live version of Coldest Winter, where Kirstie is singing lead, has a slight break between two lines of her lead lyrics, so switches back to harmony for 2 NOTES, then instantly goes back to her lead without missing a beat (literally).
