When you get hit hard by Kevin it would be getting KOed. Maybe for Scott (because of the smoothness and richness of his tonal quality) you could call it a Butterscott. If you have better, please lay it on me. I have tried and tried to come up with one for Kirstie, but nothing has yet sufficed.

That's my understanding as well. Coming from his opera/classical voice major in college, he has a vast knowledge of the pieces that have been created for centuries, and it was a stroke of genius that he brought this idea to the group and to Ben Bram, their producer/arranger (and co-founder of the A Cappella Academy with Avi and Rob Dietz). He and Ben apparently did the arrangement together (as they did for "Run To You").

@YourOnlineSingingCoach I know right? Fields and Pier was written before he left PTX and Kevin plays cello on it. He said Avi wrote the music for the whole piece. He Don't Love You Right showcases Avi's beautiful high range and is so .....IDK.....it's one of my favorite things he's ever done. You'll just have to listen. Full Moon is a meditation, a love song, a dream , Hey Ya is just a brilliant remake that shows his musical knowledge and imagination and Change on the Rise....well, nobody is ever ready for that one. You should check out Voiceplay's, "In The Hall of the Mountain King." It's very much like this, taking a complex orchestral piece and doing it solely with vocals. It's definitely got a Halloween vibe, so a bit of the wrong holiday season now, but honestly, it can really be done at any time because the piece itself isn't holiday-specific. It, like this, is freaking amazing.

They also don't get enough credit for their videography. It's always a subtle enhancement to their videos. Here the color is turned down considerably to enhance the dark atmosphere of the video. They always use light, color, angles, and other elements to enhance the feeling. The hazy sky and sunset in Hallelujah, the added HID light behind the door on Sound of Silence, the bright, ever changing outfits and rapid scene cuts for Can't Hold Us, the bold primary colors with Come Along, and many more.

There is a much better professionally produced official version hiding under the title of 'PTX 4 5 Seconds.' It starts with 'Christus Factus Est', runs into 'Aha' and then into a tour exclusive version of Rhianna's '4 5 Seconds ' featuring a walkthrough the audience and a little duet between Avi and Kevin. @@YourOnlineSingingCoach it could be interesting (he is basically singing sound effects), but IMO listen to this one on your own unless you have plans to make it through all of his music. I hope that you’ll react to all of Avi’s music and think you could start at the beginning of his solo work to follow his growth, emotionally and musically. He was in a dark place after leaving PTX, but used music to come out of it and has healed so much. Many therapists comment that they use his songs with clients, because he has such a gift in expressing himself. I love the singer-songwriter that Avi is and appreciate all of his original work. He has originals (and one cover) under the name Avriel and the Sequoias, before he was allowed to release under his own name. Some of my favorites from Avi are from this early time period. All of that to say, you can distinctly hear him on Wallace, but it was (literally) an iPhone recording that was added in to the rest of the piece. It is dark, but his voice is captivating. Avi has so many original songs (30?) and even alt versions of some of them (all are worth hearing)! ❤️

Kevin and Matt did a really cool cello, beatboxing, drum, and a little vocal version of this on their Christmas tour. It had cello shredding, a drum solo, and even a little drum/cello battle. It really made the show feel more than an a cappella concert. I don’t think there is a live stream version of it, but there are some fun fan cam videos if you are interested.

Matt is easy. You just got taken to the Matt. Scott is more problematic. The best I have there is My mouth is awash in Butterscott. I wonder if there is better out there. Kirstie I have never found one that even approaches workable. The best I have seen, and it comes up seriously short (and is misogynistic and degrading to boot), would be "thirsty for Kirstie." See what I mean. She is the really tough one.

  • @margretrosenberg420

Yeah, she's definitely the tough one. And you're right, "thirsty" is not good in this context. Also, at this point I believe she prefers to be called Kirstin except by personal friends. I like "taken to the Matt." ButterScott, hmmm. Scott has so much vocal fry that I'm not sure. Usually it works. "Hallelujah." "Sound of Silence." "Four" (ESPECIALLY "Four" - he was positively melting in that). Any time he's doing his favorite riffs and runs. But his solo in "Bohemian Rhapsody"? That's too angry for ButterScott. BTW, I've heard that there's a video of Mitch being astounded the first time someone explained "Mitch slap" to him, but I haven't been able to find it. Do you happen to have a link?

@@margretrosenberg420 I agree with the vocal fry thing, it is a tool I use myself as I have the same sort of baritone/bass he does. How about "Hit me with your best Scott!!". As for Kirsten, maybe since she is a primary contender for Queen of the Royal Belt, we could find something there. Got anything with that? That might also work because she is such a fashionista. So, we have Mitch-slapped and KOed for sure, and Taken to the Matt and Avi-lanched for the two basses, with a possible Hit me with your best Scott!! For young Mr. Hoying. How about Beaten and Belted for Kirsten? Can you see that catching on? I really would like to have one for each of the six for when they do the obligatory "featuring Avi Kaplan" 6-part visitation. That would leave Avi with Voiceplay and Celtic Woman as the a capella group visits he hasn't done yet. He has been around since his return to performing. Home Free was just the beginning. Oh, and he was also melting in the Prayer. And his Italian was pretty spot on. I had goosebumps from that one.

@@heinleinreader "Beaten"? Similar problem to "thirsty," and neither "beaten" nor "belted" puns on her name. She can definitely belt with the best, though. "Hit me with your best Scott" is a bit long. Yeah, Scott was great in "The Prayer." So was everyone else (duh - they always are). I'm still pissed that RCA submitted the entire album for a possible Grammy rather than "The Prayer"; the album had almost no chance of winning and "The Prayer" would have been a shoo-in. You think they'll do an Avi visitation? Or, more accurately, you think Avi will? It's been almost seven years, but my impression is that the wounds from his exit are still tender, on both sides. It was a bit too much like a divorce, with lawyers having to get involved over who had the rights to what. Even with the best will in the world that tends to leave hard feelings behind.
