That was their first (I think) song where they used no beatboxing or other item, nothing but their bare voices. No sound effects whatsoever. And it was pure genius. Pure heaven for us Pentaholics. I never tire one whit of hearing this song and your reaction was so good and so heartfelt, that I knew you too were feeling how magical the performance was. This song deserves far more plays than it gets.

Fun fact about this video: they studied their mouth movements backwards on the chorus so they could lip synch it backwards. That gave the illusion of the snow falling up. ❤️

@@drieuxkoeppel8152 He and Kevin wrote it, but Avi wrote most of it, which you can hear when you consider the solo music he's been writing since leaving PTX. Ben Bram helped with the arrangement, but Avi's college minor in Composition and Arranging played a big part in the creation of this beautiful piece.

Kevin apparently brought the beginning and basic concept to Avi, who wrote the rest of the song with arranging help from their producer/arranger Ben Bram.

Such a beautiful song but it is incomprehensible to me how you could go through the whole reaction without mentioning Avi Kaplan. That gentle, rich cloud of bass behind it all is a huge part of what makes this song so tender and special.

Stunning and complex music for sure. If you want to see what they themselves called their "best performance" of this song you can watch this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/h6ymuNSDn8nPc5M.html It's a bit newer and with Matt, but they are belting for their lives. The backstory is that the concert before this performance they had foul homophobic protestors at their outdoors concert with megaphones constantly disrupting the concert. So that one was really difficult when they did their off mic moment. So this concert in the video especially Scott was moved by the very quiet and respectful crowd following up from such a hard night. It's a beautiful performance to watch because it's not only vocally beautiful but filled with pure emotion within the group and also between the group and their audience. The video I linked also include them talking about the performance from their tour vlogs.

This is one of the best reactions I've seen to this beautiful song. You didn't go too far with the technical comments, but just enough to explain so much of what they were doing. As a singer, I really appreciated everything you pointed out. For me, the last chord they hummed was like they were ending the song on a question. Avi's composing skills were, and still are, genius. Most of his music are originals but he does have a few notable covers, House of the Rising Sun, Lean on Me, OutKast's Hey Ya and Black is the Color of my True Loves Hair with Peter Hollens.

Every album or so they do a song like this, where they leave out the vocal percussion and just stand in a circle around the mic and sing five-part harmony. Rumor is this original song from their second EP was based on a song called "My Heart with You" by The Rescues which was important to them in their early days in Los Angeles. Other songs in this style include a cover of Elvis' "Can't Help Falling in Love", an original lullaby by Scott called "Light in the Hallway" and some of their Christmas arrangements. And they finally did a cover of "My Heart with You" on 2021's Evergreen album, and a gorgeous live version of it for their Brigham Young Christmas special.

In 2019 on their world tour, some members of Westboro Baptist Church were protesting loudly outside one of their concerts because Mitch and Scott are openly gay. In response, they turned off their mics and sang this song, drowning out the protestors with just their voices. It's so powerful to hear them drowning out homophobia with just their voices singing a song of peace. It makes me emotional every time. You can watch it here if you're interested. If you listen carefully, you can hear the protestors shouting in the background: kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZJuFuqhvic6zc7g.html
