last night I hooked into a huge ray on my new 9/0. didn't land it but this thing was huge, I couldn't turn the fish. this reel defiantly stands up to the test

It's 1495 yards of 100lb braid, with the exception that you should 30-50 yards (minimum) 100lb mono as a base line backing to act as a shock absorber on the spool... In regards to a line guide. There's a reason many big reels (International, Avet TRX, all of the Senators, i.e.) do not have one. There's a couple reasons actually, say you have 130lb braid flying out of your reel with 24 pounds of drag and the "arc pressure" from the rod. The line guide can not handle that sort of pressure; also, the line guide adds additional close range friction on the line. Which with mono, could be heat friction tampering with the line's maximum capability, and with braid, could cause frays.

Question on the rod clamp. There are to hex washers did you put them on the inner part of the reel or outside?

On Penn Senator Reels the H stands for high speed retrieve and is distinguishable by the red side plates on the reel, L is for low speed and has black side plates.

I have a Penn 114H that has black side plates. It is said that the first year they came out they had black side plates then went to red. The 2 would mean it is made in China. Not as good of quality as the USA reels. Still good reels though.

these reels don't have a line guide which helps evenly place the line on the reel. is there a reason it don't have one and when you are using this reel or putting spool on it what stops the line all being placed in none spot?

if you hook into something big the line guide can break on them, I had a reel get a nice run and the reel locked up because of it.

Most of the really good, big game reels like the Penn Senator's and the large new shimano's dont have level wind mechanism's on them at all, their designed and built that way to suit the serious big game angler who's just looking for a really good basic reel to land the big one, level wind mechanisms are just something else that can go wrong on a reel, especially in a harsh salt water environment, you also have to bear in mind that level wind mechanisms don't tend to work as well when the reel is subject to large loads under tension, it's just something else that can jam up and potentially ruin your days fishing,, which is why most serious big game anglers tend to avoid reels with level wind mechanisms at all costs. When it comes to really good, big game reels, less is definitely more which means that level winds are out.
