Did you ever have to use your braided line when you have 150 yards of Mono top shot? If not, why do you need to put braided line in the middle of the spool? I am thinking of installing half the spool with mono and top half with braided line and 5ft of leader line.

Nice video. I bought one of the original Senator 113 4/0 Specials for $50 and it seems like a beefy reel. It needs some good cleaning and a rebuild, but hopefully it will get the job done on my next trip down to the coast. I need a good rod to pair it with though, and im not sure what I should use with a reel that big. Im looking to spend under $50 for a decent heavy rod.

the 115L2...waht does the L stand for? some have H as well what does it mean!
@davidodonovan49823 жыл бұрын
On Penn Senator Reels the H stands for high speed retrieve and is distinguishable by the red side plates on the reel, L is for low speed and has black side plates.

I have a Penn 114H that has black side plates. It is said that the first year they came out they had black side plates then went to red. The 2 would mean it is made in China. Not as good of quality as the USA reels. Still good reels though.

Question on the rod clamp. There are to hex washers did you put them on the inner part of the reel or outside?
@michaelkeef19557 жыл бұрын
It's 1495 yards of 100lb braid, with the exception that you should 30-50 yards (minimum) 100lb mono as a base line backing to act as a shock absorber on the spool... In regards to a line guide. There's a reason many big reels (International, Avet TRX, all of the Senators, i.e.) do not have one. There's a couple reasons actually, say you have 130lb braid flying out of your reel with 24 pounds of drag and the "arc pressure" from the rod. The line guide can not handle that sort of pressure; also, the line guide adds additional close range friction on the line. Which with mono, could be heat friction tampering with the line's maximum capability, and with braid, could cause frays.
