9/0 & 12/0 Penn Reel Comparison & Review

Спорт

In this video I compare the 9/0 and the 12/0 big game Penn Reels. These reels are super durable, they have very few moving mechanical parts, which prevents breakdowns. They are ideal reels for sharks, and large grouper. Here are a few of the specifications:
9/0 Penn
700 yards of 50lb mono
1450 yards of braid
2 ball bearings
Gear ratio 2.5:1
Weight 55oz
12/0 Penn Reel
1500 yards of 60lb mono
3500 yards of braid
2 bearings
2:1 gear ratio
Weight: 85 oz

    Thanks for the video. I just recently picked up a 9/0. Sent it to Penn for maintenance and to have it converted to a left hand reel. Can't wait to use it.

    You can spool them with moi moi monofilament or dacron. I prefer braid and a top shot of mono. Typically 80 to 100lb braid.

    People mainly use these reels for large sharks off of the beach or piers. You can also use them for large game offshore.

    Hey on your 9/0 you have an additional support at the very top of the reel. What is that piece called?

  • @Saltyscales
    @Saltyscales11 жыл бұрын

    Hello, the 9/0 you can purchase for about $175.00 and you can purchase a 12/0 for $250 - 300.

    helpful video thanks, but I have a question : there is no line guide on these reels so when reeling in how do you get even distribution of line on the reel drum as opposed to a pile up in one place?

  • @Saltyscales

    @Saltyscales

    Hello Joseph, I personally am not a big fan of line guides due to mechanical failure and restriction. For reels without them you would just manually guide the line with your index finger and thumb.

    Thanks for the reply 👍👍 it seems rather odd that such a powerful reel wouldn't have like a powerful line guide to match, I can't imagine it would be easy guide the line especially with a big fish on?

    very good thank you. Im thinking of getting a trolling reel for baja targeting sail fish and maybe tuna dorado ect...I was hoping to get away with using the 9/0 loading it with about 300 yards 100lb braid and the rest 70lb mono....any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ..thanks again. Obviously the price for the 12/0 is much more than for a 9/0 on ebay.
