PENN Fierce 3: The best VALUE spinning reel?

Спорт

#PennReels #PennFishing #Fishing
The Penn Fierce 3 is a spinning reel you can find on the shelf of your local Walmart (assuming it's still in stock). This is the third generation of a brand of reel I have used for quite some time. In this video I cover everything from drag system to body construction. Thanks for stopping by!

    *Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*

    I have a penn Fierce II 3000 that I have used for 5 or 6 years now. All I do after fishing with it is rinse it off with fresh water. It's reeled in a bunch of Whiting, Ladyfish, Pinfish, Hardhead catfish, bass, and Pompano. It's a great reel I will use for years to come until it wears out or I do. The latter probably coming sooner.

    That’s odd, might warrant reaching out to penn service and seeing if they can check it out. Or a tear down and good cleaning/lubrication. Sometimes the factory doesn’t do the best lubrication job on the gear drives. They also may be a defective component.

    I have a chance to get this reel on sale however I have the Battle ll and I have lost a lot of 20 lb Power pro line due to poor line lay of this reel. I was able to get it to use 15 lb Spider wire braid without any problems. I would like to get this reel only if the line lay improved with this new spool on the Feirce 3. So with your experience has the line lay improved with the Fierce 3?

  • @CastFromTheHip

    @CastFromTheHip

    Жыл бұрын

    I doubt the line lay has improved with the Fierce. The first line lay improvement I'm aware of is with the new Penn Authority. It has additional gear reduction over most penns to slow down the spool-oscillation and achieve better line lay. That said, I never had issues with line lay on any of my penns.

  • @CastFromTheHip

    @CastFromTheHip

    2 жыл бұрын

    A 3000 with 15lb braid and a 6ft fluorocarbon leader tied with a uni-knot to the braid will catch a lot of different fish (fresh or salt). If you’re in Florida with Snook roaming the flats, you’ll need to go more like 4000 with no lower than 30lb braid. 6’6” medium rod is all you need!

    I purchased a Penn Fierce 3, the handle was off in the clam shell. I screwed it on. The handle at the top where it pivots into the bolt that screws in, it seems to rub the cone that covers that bolt at the top. Where it flares to meet the body at other end, it seems to sit proud aka gap can be seen, is this normal? It feels like rubbing is happening. .

    @@CastFromTheHip The reason I asked is because my reel seat is bent on my 8 foot Ugly Stik Bigwater from hard casting my PENN BATTLE III 8000 HS (High Speed version) overhead when I cast and the force from me casting hard with that larger tank of a reel; the force has slightly bent the bottom reel seat. So I thought maybe you had the answer to my problem with your KZread name “Cast From The Hip” I was kinda hoping you experienced the same problem but instead you have an answer to eliminate that by “Casting From The Hip.” That’s why I asked.

    Even though you've caught more fish in a day than I have in the past yr, you may not want to spray wd40 on the line directly. It could cause it to become brittle and more importantly there's research about "bad Scents" (specifically petroleum based products) repelling fish.

  • @CastFromTheHip

    @CastFromTheHip

    You're probably 100% correct. My Penn Fierces are my beater/workhorse reels, I treat them like garbage. I do all the wrong things to them and they keep catching fish...haha that's what makes them such great reels. Funny you mention WD40, I've ran into a number of fishermen who swear by WD40 as an attractant. I've found that after a few casting cycles in saltwater, any trace WD40 is long gone.
