Pen-y-ghent walk from Horton in Ribblesdale (via Hull Pot) - Full Walk

Walk Summary
This Pen-y-ghent walk from Horton in Ribblesdale via Hull Pot in the Yorkshire Dales takes approximately 3 hours and 5 minutes. Pen-y-ghent along with Ingleborough and Whernside make up what is known as the 'Yorkshire Three Peaks' and this walk is one of the most popular Yorkshire Dales walks.
Pen-y-ghent is visible from the start of the walk and most of the way around. The walk leaves Horton in Ribblesdale via Brackenbottom and then gradually climbs along the '3 Peaks' path until we meet the Pennine Way. Here the path climbs two steeper sections to arrive at the trig point on the top of Pen-y-ghent, which affords wonderful panoramic views, including Fountains Fell, Ingleborough and Whernside.
We take a short detour on the return to visit Hull Pot, reputed to be the biggest natural hole in England.

WALKING BOOTS Unless very wet or winter walking, my preference is boots/shoes without ankle support - that's not for everyone though. Having used fell running shoes for many years, I prefer the lightweight feel.
INOV-8 Trailfly Ultra G300 Max: New to me in 2022, now the choice for 70%+ of my walks. Training shoe cushioning, but fellshoe grip and stability - getting many best in test awards.

Stunning video - I really like the way you show the whole walk - great for seeing whether I might be able to do it before I start and for getting to know the route before I set off. We walked Pen-y-ghent last week - amazed that Hull Pot with the size of it could fill up!! that must have been one heavy downpour.

We have just completed our hike up Pen y Ghent. Your video & description were really useful. We were lucky to be able to walk it in sunny mostly dry conditions! Just like to add, after our walk and returning to the Lion pub carpark a group of lovely ladies were serving tea and cake in St Oswalds church 2.30 - 4.30.

Glad you found the video useful and actually got one of the rare sunny days…there’s not been many of those of late! I’ve not been when they’ve been doing tea and cakes, but if I can find out whether it’s a regular thing I can add it to the walk on the website…

It might have been the pen-y-ghent fell race, that's in June. Hopefully you'll manage to climb it next time. If you are heading back down the a65, the gamecock inn at austwick does nice food as well.

Glad you enjoyed. The weather is looking pretty good for the weekend, so you should get some decent views. Horton can get quite busy weekends in June. Besides the pay and display car park, there is some additional parking behind the golden lion, in a layby about 100 yards before the golden lion (coming from settle side) and some roadside parking just over the bridge near the crown heading towards the station.

Quite wide range of times as depends on fitness levels and walking speed, but average time is probably around 2 hours 40 minutes.
