This movie was so disturbing. Not because it was gruesome, but Mia Goth's acting is so good that every time she started to scream or have a mental breakdown it gave me so much anxiety.

The family dinner and confrontation with Mittsy both made my blood run cold, those scenes were so well crafted and really immersed you in the film I feel like. The actual killing in the movie was anxiety inducing, but the dread of the characters interacting was where the real horror lied IMO. Mia killed it in this, pun maybe intended.

Mia Goth will give us such an amazing performance, that Oscars will definitely ignore her and snub her next year. This randomly became one of my favorite films. X was a fun and scary good time but this prequel built a back story for a character who didn’t need one and yet it doesn’t at all diminish the horror of the original character. Mia Goth’s performance as Pearl deserves all the awards. I know they generally snub Oscar nominations for horror movies (Que Toni Collette/Hereditary) but she definitely deserves the recognition. Also director TI West is slowly becoming one of the best horror directors out there. He’s like the Wes Anderson of horror with his original and unconventional style.

I just watched this film without knowing that it was a prequel and, I have to say, it stands incredibly well on its own. You really aren't required to watch "X" before watching "Pearl." Though, I will definitely watch "X" after seeing this masterpiece! The story and characters (especially Pearl herself) are excellent and very well written. The titular character is a perfect embodiment of dangerous ambition and delusion of grandeur while also demanding some form of compassion from the audience, as Pearl's hopes, dreams and wants are relatable enough to invoke empathy. Even though that empathy flies right out the window the moment she impales another poor soul with a pitchfork, haha. The acting performances of Mia Goth are nothing but surreal! I've never seen her on screen before, but I will definitely keep her on my radar as she's a force to be reckoned with, an absolute marvel to watch explode (you'll know what I mean after seeing this). What more is there really for me to say? This film simply ticked all the right boxes and then some! I couldn't recommend it enough!

(Spoilers) As a man child still living in the basement of my mom's house, this film resonated with me on so many levels. I feel like my mom enables me to stay in the house, but I guess the moral of this story is..if one is to leave there toxic parents, you must either make peace with them or cut ties completely. If you leave the nest with baggage, it'll stay with you.

This is why I whenever I recommend any horror movies to anyone I ALWAYS bring up A24 being the best in that genre. The sinister fear of the expected yet unexpected just rattles my deep love for the genre, as disturbing as it is to many people. They do it like none other and I praise them for them. Mia Goth is going to be just absolutely legendary in this and I hope for once they receive an Oscar. The quality they put out is incomparable to the rest. They outdo themselves each and every time. And very nice of Mitsy to let Pearl finish her "Oscar bait speech". And the smile at the end that people keep raving about, just doesn't fit at all. Yes, it's creepy, but it is also so clearly overacted it becomes laughable. I think Mia Goth still did a great job with many scenes in the movie, and she is a talented actress, but she clearly tried too hard at times. That said, I think it was still a good movie. X is one of my favorite films of the year and I was absolutely shaking giddy with excitement when the teaser for Pearl popped up during the credits. Then really disappointed thinking we were gonna have to wait a full year or into Next Year for Pearl to come out. Now we only have to wait until September 16th, 2022. This might be the first year where two films in the same franchise make my Top 10 of the year.
