The stock heads need replaced asap! It sounds pretty damn good with the Evans heads I put on it. If you want a compact, lightweight travel kit, it's definitely worth purchasing.

I've got this kit and it's quite nice. What I would do to save some cash is use another snare and transform the 10" drum it comes w as a tom. That way it stays compact and you don't need to expand the whole kit.

I play this kit in my percussion ensembles and walking acts. It works...;-)

Honestly not as bad as I thought it’d be. If you mapped the hits & put “reinforcing” samples underneath for the snare/toms, you could get away w/ recording with it

A drummer since '64 >> been on this kit for over a year -- its way portable -- folds in one carry bag ... only have to carry in the hihat >> I adapted a mount for the cymbal = right on the kick ....so no additional stands ...

This is a cool drum kit

Nice kit. I would replace those tom heads with black Remo pinstripes, or Evans clear red Hydraulics; and an Evan EMAD2 head on the kick, and I would replace that snare with a wood piccolo snare drum and tune everything to low tuning. That's just my personal setup.

If you were to remove the snares and lower the tuning, would it sound the same as the 10” add on tom? I’d consider this set if I could use one of my own snares and use the Traveler snare as a tom.

Yes, that's possible.

Gotta say, the A-400 from traps sound quite a lot better than this - considering it's been around for quite a while, and it's in direct competition with this.

Can you link to the mounts you’re using on the toms?

Aside from the snare wires, is there a difference between the snare and 10” tom?

Toms and bass sound fine, snare sounds like crap. Only time I've ever heard that snare sound good was tuned blisteringly high and played in quiet jazz settings.

not a good rock and roll snare nope, my suggestion is purchase the tama mini tymps they make them in snares or toms in 6" 8" and 10", the 10" would work perfect, cuz i own all this stuff i know lol. i have the compact traveller kit too if you replace the bass skin with an Evans UV emad skin omg sounds like 10 times better too. Double ply skins on the mini tymps make them sound like deeper for using them as toms as well. i am still uncertain what skin will make this crappy flat snare sound better i prefer to use it as a side snare.

@@420protoman I want to upgrade my midtown snare and may just use the midtown snare with the compact traveler bass drum.

Moral of the story...if you're gonna play on this kit bring along a full-sized/depth snare drum. That snare sounds awful. The rest of the kit sounds acceptable though.

It didn't even look like the drum had a snare side resonant head, plus it was that aweful one-ended pressure-type snare wire assembly (which never really works well). The manufacturer would have done better if they had spent a few extra bucks and put a standard style snare bed system with a bottom resonant head. They could even still keep the shell at only 1.5-2 inches deep, but that resonant bottom head with full width wires in a snare bed would make a world of difference. Otherwise, the rest of the kit wasn't too bad for what it was, and would be decent at a tiny cafe-style gig where there is no space to set up.

I am thinking it's sound has to do with those rims. On the snare, it sounds too plastic-ly. Would like to hear it with real steel or chrome over brass rims; would make for a much better sound.

it's the cheap skins it comes with stink, i own this kit. get the UV emads by evans and it will sound wayyyy better.... also the expansion kit is super overpriced... i got the bassdrum and snare combo with the bag for 340CAD and they want 385 for the expansion kit , just 2 toms and a bag for them , jeeze. pearl stuff aint cheap guys. but their skins sure are...

Yeah, I think they expect most wanna play their own snare anyway, so the snare doubles as a Tom then, in which case it’s a pretty cool little kit.

those stock pearl skins are crap hehe, why no one in any videos has replaced their stock pearl skins omg lol, drum blasphemy, try the evans uv emad on your bass

well. it is an interesting concept ruined by a cheap price point. if they'd spent 100$ more on mounting tech so that the snare and other mounted drums don't wobble all over the place..
