Hi there! In this video we tell you everything you need to know about snorkeling in and around Peanut Island. It's an educational video that covers the history, the beach, the marine life and lots more.
Peanut Island is located on the east side of Florida. There are 2 main snorkel areas: The beach (with its reefs) and the lagoon.
There is a shuttle boat that takes you to Peanut Island, or you can just as well rent a kayak (or paddle board). The trip is somewhere between 10-15 minutes.
Once you arrive you'll get "tropical island feelings" for sure! Snorkeling is great within the reef area. Expect to observe parrotfish, moray eels, damselfish, pork fish, angelfish, wrasse and many more. Even sharks, stingrays and manatees could be present. Manatees especially enjoy the lagoon, which is located next to the reefs (towards the south).
Bring your own food and snacks because there are no restaurants on Peanut Island. You could stay the night on one of the campsites.
Even though the island is situated near a busy shore, snorkeling is definitely amazing. It's not just about snorkeling, but also about having an exciting day. The island park is only 79 acres big, so make sure to explore all of its lovely nature.
