This lesson teaches you how to perform level bombing in the Pe-2. Its bombsight is illustrated and a wind calculation example is also shown before an in-game bombing run demonstrates how to level bomb in the Pe-2. There are also some extra tips (text format) at the end of the video.
If you want an even more detailed look at level bombing, check out some great guides by 71st Chuck here:

Well done as usual. Explanation for wind drift angle is very clear. Tips such as the difference between View Mode and Bomb Mode for the wind drift correction are very useful.
oh jeez, you guys already did a whole series on bombing! wonderful!
was having a hard time finding a tutorial on this. Thanks for your video
Awesome! I'm glad you covered some things i wasnt clear on, such as how to correct for wind.
Great tutorial, Requiem. You've got yourself a Chuck seal of approval ;)

Alex's Flying Club Thanks Alex, have you picked up BoS yet or still awaiting the full release?
Since Pe-2 is positioned as a dive bomber it would be nice to see the dive bombing technique tutorial for this aircraft
Thanks, great video
Very Well Done. Thank You.

CTSchmidlak Cheers Schmidlak. I know there is some material out there on this already and many people might be familiar with the process, but seeing things in motion always helps. I wish I was able to complete it sooner, but not everything is in my control hehe

IL-2 Tutorials by Requiem Very appreciative of the time you put into these to help folks beat the learning curve a little faster. Is a dive bombing tutorial in the cards as well? ;)

CTSchmidlak Yep. It's being worked on. Hopefully I can release it this week.
Thanks very good video !
Excellent videos. Now if I could bring myself to setup my X-55 I might actually try to do these myself after watching your vids :P

TheUnvain Go on then... You know you want to ;-)
Alright so, the formula I use to calculate the wind drift is 360degrees-plane heading=x. x+wind angle=wind drift. this only seems to work when the outcome is to the right. In order to do the left do I need to instead subtract the wind angle by 360degrees, and add the plane heading + x
@RequiemsACTL

I didn't include a formula because you would need to remember which one to use for which side. Besides that though, simply looking at the two headings relative to each other is more intuitive than having to remember two formulas. The formula works when the outcome is to the right, but if the outcome is to the left you will need to adjust it by subtracting a further 180 degrees to get the reciprocal heading in order to equal the adjustment. Like I said in the video, if you're adjustment calculation is more than 180 you did it wrong.
Useful as always!

If i'm completely wrong about my whole entire method of calculating the wind drift, can you please help me out on how to understand how to calculate the wind drift. THANKS!
Hi! Do you notice any difference at the pannel's buttons when you activate the auto level? Because i not only notice any difference but I also can see any change being made at the panel

I've never noticed
This may sound like a stupid question, but I am new to IL2 and its keys are different from others. My issue is how the heck do you get back into the pilot position in the cockpit after switching either to a turret position or the bombers position. I usually end up everywhere but back in the cockpit. Heck I have even ended up watching the plane which attacked me in my bomber landing back at their airfield. I also noticed the targets are not highlighted, and so recognizing them is a tad tough. Could you cover these issues please. Thanks

Keep pressing CTRL+C to change positions in the airplane.
Awesome video but can you tell me how i go back to controlling the plane itself after looking thru the bomb sight? When i go back to regular cockpit view after bombing view i have no control over the plane anymore, thanks

In case you haven't figured it out already. When you go into the bombsight it automatically levels you, so if you press SHIFT+A you will turn off the autolevel after exiting the bombsight.
So chucks guides have been taken down, and I don't understand how you did your windage calculation. Care to shed some light for me? Cheers
@RequiemsACTL

To figure that out you need to know where the wind is blowing from and your current heading. The number of degrees between these two things is the wind angle.
How do you get shortest difference between your heading and wind? I still dont get how you get the angle.
@SamnissArandeen

Take your compass heading and subtract the wind direction, and your answer is going to be degrees to the left. Use this number if you get between 0 and 180 inclusive. If you get a negative number in the original calculation, add 180. Your result will be degrees to the right. If your original calculation gets you a number greater than 180, subtract 180. Again, your result will be degrees to the right.
Do you have the tutorials for level bombing with German bombers?
@RequiemsACTL
5 жыл бұрын
No I haven't done anything with the German bombers. It's essentially the same process but slightly different interface.
I thought I was supposed to set the wind direction from where the wind was blowing from on the number, not between the wind direction and flying direction. Do this (the wind/ aircraft travel direction setting) apply to the He111 in the same way? (the wind/travel direction setting) Thanks for the video (watched it 138 times now)
@RequiemsACTL

Kjetil Jensen Yes, the same principle for calculating wind direction applies to the He-111 when manually bombing as well. When I do level bombing with the He-111 I won't be showing how to do it manually though since the Pe-2 video already covers it. I'll show usage of the automatic setting.

IL-2 Tutorials by Requiem Thanks. It don't work perfect. Need more practice and I think I get it. :)
What about the targets elevation does it matter in il2 bos?
@RequiemsACTL
9 жыл бұрын
It does to a degree, but the elevations in BoS are so minimal it's not worth the effort and won't make a tangible difference in accuracy.
Ate hoje eu tento entender como faz esse calculo nao entra na minha cabeça
Is "level autopilot" a real feature of bombers like Pe-2 or are you just using it for your convinience?
@RequiemsACTL
3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if it was a RL feature of the Pe-2 but it makes life much easier because in you wouldn't normally be operating the bombsight and the flying at the same time. It's a real thing in Luftwaffe bombers though I believe.

@@RequiemsACTL I think in HE-111 it is a real thing, I believe in some other aircraft as well. I've searched through your channel and never stumble across any information as to the controllers used by you. When I bought IL-2 Sturmovik couple of days ago, I flew using Thrustmaster T Flight HOTAS. Although it is very decent joystick for a price one has to pay for it, couldn't hit a barn with it. Well.... I could hit a barn but I could forget about landing my bullets on small targets, unless I used loong bursts, which drained my ammo quickly. I've searched some forums and being under the impression, that Thrustmaster 16000 is worth to try it, I bought one. GAME CHANGING EXPERIENCE for £30 (refurbished in mint condition). Seeing your excellence and precise flying those digital aircraft, I wonder wonder what joystick (controllers) you use.
We are waiting for the one for He-111

Bomred B Cheers Bomred, yeah I know I need to do one for the He-111. Since there is one showing manual bombing in the Pe-2 the He-111 is a lower priority at the moment. Right now I'm going to be focusing on making BFM and ACM videos for a while due to their omission so far.
