I would keep Jigg's but update the moveset to reflect some modern additions to its movepool, like giving it Disarming Voice to rep its Fairy typing.

Sakurai talks about the unlockable characters in an article saying “Ness and Luigi are made from Mario's skeleton, Falcon is Samus, and Jigglypuff is Kirby. That's why I chose Jigglypuff.” He also says he considered Clefairy for this spot, but preferred Jigglypuff. I’ll post the source of this as a reply to this comment, but just know it’s in Japanese.

that and a lot of ness' moves used unused content and captain falcon's base was also from the beta of smash dragon king the fighting game

@@welchrebooted4739 I've never heard this claim that Ness uses unused content, do you have a source for that? Sakurai himself said Falcon was made from Samus's skeleton, what your saying was just speculation, if anything Samus used the skeleton of a Dragon King character, but that would also just be speculation.

@@bobbyblue4608 well like the dragon king captain falcon thing it is never confirmed only speculated but there are instances where it's likely ness reused content from other characters. like you said mario as a base, most likely had his model pulled from early prototypes of EB64, possibly reused pk fire from a old bowser b move, reused mewtwo's floaty jumps and grabs, Fsmash is a reused homerun bat, Usmash and Dsmash may have originally been from Kirby given the similaties of the yo-yo attacks in the Kirby games, possibly had elements of volt tackle retooled for pk thunder since FS were planned, ect. this is all only conjecture tbh but I could buy it, there's a video on it and I'd link it only YT won't let me link video's in comment sections.

Jigglypuff probably would’ve been cut in previous Smash games if she was not part of the Original 12. All the other Original 12 characters have reasons to stay outside of being part of the Original 12. Pokémon will probably get a lot of cuts with there being 10 total and a new one being guaranteed, so if being in the Original 12 isn’t sacred anymore, then I could see her be removed

Agreed, I think there is a difference between a character's significance in their own IP versus the significance of the character to super smash bros.

Characters like Ness and Captain Falcon are way more known for their Smash appearances, but Ness is the protagonist of Mother 2, the first localized Mother game, while Captain Falcon is the mascot of F-Zero. Jigglypuff has her fans but I wouldn't call her a mascot for Pokemon. Pokemon like Pikachu, Charizard, Mewtwo, Lucario, and Greninja make more sense to bring back than Jigglypuff because of their prominence in the series overall

I'm honestly conflicted with Jigglypuff. On the one hand, I don't have that big of an attachment to Pokemon, let alone Jigglypuff and supposedly she did come very close to getting cut, but on the other hand, she is part of the original 12 and I feel like if they wanted to cut her, it probably would've happened already. Delzethin does have ideas for a potential rework of her moveset, so maybe I'll change my mind once that video (eventually) comes out.

It ultimately comes down to do you prioritize Pokémon's legacy or Smash's legacy.
