@@jaedynmartinez1384 nahhh dude all my mains don’t have great spikes to me spikes r free as fuck in ult they take little to no skill in melee they where hype because ledge hogging and how deep youd have to go n u might not recover ult everyone has safe recovery so spiking isn’t even hype like it was in melee & yah u don’t need a spike to be good my friend plays with only characters that spike most all my mains cannot spike but I still win tonsa games without it when u have a recovery as good as puffs and directional air dodge that is a 6th jump spikes aren’t even that great rest will kill u center of the stage at like 65% n that’s actually hype

@@jaedynmartinez1384 also man puff only with sora beyo & meta knight have some of the stickest combos that just drag u off stage or off stage edge guarding game literally no one competes with puff on her off stage game so id prefer combos that could drag u into the blast zone then a spike anyday those r way more OP with how good 2/3rds of the cast recovery is now spikes aren’t even that great so many characters get intangibility and super armor on their recoveries even characters like jr who could be spiked hard in ult had the hammer that comes out super fast now where u actually have very little chance makes me laugh u always see jag offs just going for spikes without leaving the stage trying to get em through the stage in ult

we're trying.

I learned how to play jigglypuff as a meme because funny rest move and sing. When I started to learn how to play puff I really liked the playstyle and proceeded to spend 10 straight hours learning how to play puff. I am now a puff main and I love it. Only downside is dying at 30% from a random dlc gimmick. This is my life now, a pink puff ball of death.

@@Yumizies Kind of, but not really. I think Bassmage taught Hungrybox on how to play Ultimate Jigs more than Hungrybox taught Bass. You can see how Hungrybox's neutral game changed before and after Bass became prominent in the scene.

Jigglypuff feels like a very iconic character to Smash, regardless of how good or bad she might do in the competitive side, I hope she doesn't get removed from future games like it almost happened in Brawl, it would feel weird if any character from the original Smash didn't come back

I can see it, the Rushdown of Fox, Pikachu and Captain falcon, the Glass cannon of Puff and Ness, the Grappler of Luigi, the the Heavyweight of DK, the Zoner of Samus, the combo oriented brawlers of Mario and Kirby, the Trap setups of Link and the all-rounder Yoshi, although Samus and Link are hybrids of Zoner/Brawler and Trapper/Swordfighter.

Whilst jigglypuffs air dodge is slow in startup, it is also incredibly safe to use, her very good air mobility means that you either have to hard read puffs drift and hope they don't react, or react and get a small punish of dash attack or some other burst option, if your lucky. It also goes incredibly far as a directional air dodge, adding more layers to an already very difficult to punish move.

Safe to use? Jigglypuff is the character with more endlag in its directional air dodge.

I would LOVE to see you cover ice climbers in a video, you're so good at explaining technical aspects of characters and there are so many layers to ICs and truly no one other than Big D plays them at the top level. The only other pr of any sorts is Hammerbro but that's bc I live in Tennessee and he's #2 in the state rn.

Knowing Vars is a Cloud main makes this video all the more satisfying to watch.

Agree The top tiers in base Ultimate didn't have the absolute stomping power of the premium characters, and if you're a mid character without a specific matchup tool... then I guess you die

i'd like to see you cover duck hunt. they're a character that you barely see in top level play, but they also have good matchups against some top tiers.

Mentioning Ness vs. Puff reminded me of how awful that matchup feels because recovering against Puff as Ness is impossible assuming the Puff is familiar with what to do. Ness can fight onstage well against Puff, but if offstage for any amount of time Ness can just get utterly robbed of his recovery.

Jiggly is my second main she is so fun. Underrated character very rewarding to win with.

I am the guy in my friend group, that makes Jiggles „strong“ aka good in our meta. And I love her. I like Jiggles in each smash-game and she will always stay one of my go-to-characters. Especially in 64, and Ultimate.

Yah man I played her back in brawl & sm4sh didn’t have to be in melee for me to still pick her up n play her but yah man she schmooves in ult that roll just takes u half way across the screen I love it

at the weekly local tournaments i used to go to, a pikachu player, pokemon trainer, and a mewtwo dominated every tournament.

Jigglypuff needs her ground moves to have better frame data and/or power. Take a look at Little Mac for example. He has great ground moves that allow him to get his enemies into the air and pretty good air options to support that. But looking back at Jigglypuff, she struggles to fight on the ground.

It's worth adding the complete kill confirm void that puff has after your main rest combos stop working. If the character isn't reliably edgeguardable you just kinda hope for a (f-air) dash attack/bair confirm, which doesnt kill until like 100%ish right on ledge on roughly mid weights and stops comboing at 130ish and once those are out at about you kinda have nothing but raw hits to kill, no instant death from grab then back throw like Ness, or combo into a kill confirm.

@@Mike-di3mo Yeah but most of the competitively viable cast have something, or if it's down to stray hits, it's something mashable, like wolf bair, any mario smash attack. Puff has Bair which isnt a long lasting hitbox and turns her around.

A quirky play style, solid character, honestly. But any character with good aerials can block her out ive noticed, or projectiles even limit Puffs movement forcing a counter neutral play.

Hi, competitive puff player here! Jigglypuff is indeed a very polarizing character, being extremely light but also having a strong advantage state and the ability to kill her opponents off of one or two interactions herself. However, I think you may have missed the mark a bit in terms of why no one plays her. First off, she has plenty of ways to force characters offstage; her fair, dair, and nair all combo into her potent forward throw which was probably one of the if not the single best change to her kit through patches. Additionally, Jigglypuff (like other brawler styled characters) does make up for her weaknesses with range with her air drift granting her effectively larger interpolated hitboxes and while characters like Mario and Fox do it better, both characters are extremely strong and I feel as though the comparison is a tad unfair given those character's other strengths (both being in the conversation for top 10). Jigglypuff's biggest problems are: (1) She gets platform camped really easily by most of the cast; a person who knows the puff matchup well will jump from platform to platform and make it really difficult for her to land her combo starters. (2) If Jigglypuff is unable to land an edgeguard or rest combo, she struggles to kill; she often has to resort to fishing for backair, uptilt, or dash attack and has a hard time creating pressure at over 130 due to her lack of a proper kill throw, with upthrow starting to kill pichu at around 170% with no rage. That being said, I hope to see her as a more prevalent counterpick character at a top level given her strong matchups vs MinMin, ROB, Kazuya, spacies, wario, diddy kong, and pac-man. Still loved the video and can't wait to see more!

@@gabrielmoravargas4728 Dair loops and high damage confirms are easy and rob has a really hard time getting momentum and using landing nair to its fullest since puff can play reactionary around his tools well. His recovery is slow and linear, and if he recovers high puff has the tools to punish his landings. It's basically just a case that rob can't really use his best tools against puff, and even top robs generally agree that it's one of his harder matchups. Hope this helps!

I started playing Puff as a secondary character when I wanted to have fun. Now she is by far my most played, and actually my closest to elite smash even tho I know its not my best, its just the one I love to play the most !

Jigglypuff despite all her weaknesses is imo the best designed Pokemon in Ultimate. Every other Pokemon in this game is either too awkard, too corny or its Pichu.

Tbf Puff has been a fairy type for quite a while now so they could easily give her Moonblast or something like that as a projectile attack...

@@Mike-di3mo lol I just checked, it can't. But point still stands, be it Dazzling Gleam or even Hyper Voice. Or, maybe they could make a gimmicky projectile out of Echoed Voice where it bounces off walls and gets stronger if it comes back or something. So many options.

As a Puff main myself, I can say that this is 100% true, if not more. It's hard to admit for me but even the campy playstyle is the only way to push her at higher level. I am a very agressive player so I play I loose a lot. Waiting is not fun and yet you have to to punish your opponent. It doesn't help that the person I play with the most, my brother, plays some of puff's worst matchups. Every single time you're going in first with puff, you die. Considering that it's easy to understand that her playstyle is very defensive. I think what she needs the most would be (aside from a frame 2 airdoge,) a move like similar to charge shot in the way it forces foes to attack. Right now if he is not loosing your opponent has absolutly no reason to try to get close to you, and since you die so early, you pretty much have to go in the entire time. She is supposed to be a punish character but has to strike first to get a chance to punish anything. I like her for her physics and air movement and It's a shame she has all these issues. Although she feels weak in this game, it's way worse in smash 4. In said game she was simply unplayable. I remember myself, a few years ago, stuck on smash 4 and trying to pickup puffs because she felt good to play. 😧 Playing puff is just exhausting.

Perhaps. But I don't think so. Rollout doesn't at all behave like a Samus Charge shot. I would help us for sure but not that much seeing just how it controls. If your opponent knows he can just wait and punish you on your way back. (or just counter) Tho yeah maybe.

bassmage is a god, if he and focused his skills on a meta character he would be a top 5 player, he can make a weak character like puff look viable for competitive.

See puff is a really great pocket main back in melee she could be solo Mained just when u get to ult there’s characters like palu who not only beat all ur Airels with a nair but can also spam annoying projectiles at u in combination with playing really defensive ur chances at going in are slim to non but she defs has 9/10th of the sauce she did in melee besides the up throw to rest miss g&w down throw to judgment combos 2 :( but yah as someone playing her in brawl & smash 4 that’s good enough for me to play her

3:10 is that Wild Arms? I never really played the games beyond the first hour or so for all of them but that sounds very close to at least a knock off of the openings.

On a real note tons of people play Puff. Everytime I select puff in quick play I have at least 3 ditto matches. Everytime!!!

Jigglypuff used to be OP in the original SSB for the N64 (specifically the move Rest). However, from SSBM for the GameCube and beyond, Jigglypuff's Rest has been noticeably nerfed.

puffs air dodge lasts 70 frames at least and stacks with her air speed extremely well, that is a way to use puffs airdodge but its so bad at getting out of combos lol, at least its a really good option to get off ledge, (jump airdodge and pray your insane movement isnt perfectly read)

As a casual puff main, here’s my two cents. Puff is a dopamine character, a character who is meant to be fun and give instant gratification with rest and edge guards. However, when rests and edge guards are the only consistent way a puff can get kills, it becomes frustrating after a while. Learning rest set ups and ideal edge guarding helps, but that dopamine rush drive disappears. Learning rest set ups is hard, and while learning new ones for every rest hit, there are multiple missed which feel awful and the game feels unfair. I think that wall is why people don’t play jigglypuff.

All jiggypuff needs is her back air from melee. If Nintendo can keep this power and range from ultimate while adding the back air frame data from melee without her turning around, then most of her issues will be solved.

I got a question, in your, why no one plays sheik video you said “sheik is the best character in the game, only limited by human ability” and in your, the problem with sonic video you “sonic has the power to choose to not interact” so my question is, if you made a bot play as sheik as perfectly as they can and made another bot play as sonic as perfectly as they can, who would win?

I'm pretty sure Hungryboxs reputation as a camper doesn't come from the character (although he couldn't have gotten it if not from it), but it comes from events like the time he literally flew away from an Ice climbers player for minutes after getting a stock lead because he cared more about winning than either playing the game or the expectators experience But hey, that's the "melee" way, isn't it?
