I've seen 144hz with my eyes and I can say that it is beautiful. Incredible. Gift for your sight. But if you can get stable 60fps on 60hz monitor, it is totally fine. I wouldn't go below 60. But hey, I am the one who played GTA V for over a year and didn't know that Vsync was on half, so locked 30.

Hi, i use 2 monitors a 144hz and a 60hz, I would say, 60hz is fine for most gaming (unless you are a csgo player) but once you play 144hz for a long time 60hz looks horrible and it gives me headaches now i cant switch back.

I have a 144hz monitor (can be overclocked to 165) And I dont think it was really worth it. I regret Selling my 1440p ultrawide. Sure it makes a difference, but 60fps is plenty in most games nowadays.
Finally! Someone explained all this with common sense rather than technical language and without adding: "You'll need a very high end/expensive system to fully take advantage of the monitor"

It depends if you're planning to play at 1080 2k or 4k
Good info! I'm looking forward to the rest of the series.
Good place to start for those new to gaming monitors. Up-to-date info and well-presented by Keys as always! PS Digging the new intro!
I swear, every time i start having a tech question that i start to look into on my own, these guys manage to read my mind and make a video about it. The timing is uncanny!

There is a lot of incorrect information on the internet about this topic. I'm glad you know what you're talking about. Good video. Do more like this.
Great video; we need more tech tips!
Nice series, keep going on
This was pretty informative, much thanks
Great video Keys
New series, wow! Lets go!
Thank you, that was a nice update. Back in the day it was all about turning AA on or off as the most advanced graphic options and I've lost track of all the latest gimmicks. Also what's up with triple buffering?
Thank you for the simple way you pass the knowlege !!!
Useful bit of info Thanks!
Thank you for the explanation
adaptive sync are also super awesome for slow gpu's. so having the xbone have free sync makes sense.
More like this. Good stuff.
Excellent video, I think this series is a wonderful idea. Don't go bankrupt before you finish this series guys! Fingers crossed.

I'm looking forward to the resolution one because I personally value that over high refresh rate. I'd like to know what sort of hardware id need to run dual 4k
actually good info!!! Thanks dude! Central Pahk!
I love the new Intro :)
Awsome video ;) thx for the lesson
Nice explanation :)
To avoid screen tearing and input lag without shelling out on a GSYNC or FREESYNC monitor do the following: Turn VSYNC on in game (whatever game you are playing), find the console command to limit frame rate to 1 short of the VSYNC cap i.e. if your refresh rate is 60 set in game frame limit to 59 - enjoy almost perfect screen tear free display
I like this. Good Job.
Nice vid!!!!
From a pretty hardcore CS:GO gamer with a 1080Ti and a 240Hz BenQ monitor, I can assure that most of you can't even tell a difference between 240 and 144. Most people would waste money getting a 240Hz display, rather get a 144 with better colors!

Exetic Why would you play csgo with a 1080ti?
@powerfulshammy
6 жыл бұрын
yea as xia said that's too high of a vid card not unless your gonna play fallout 4 or skyrim sometimes it can even bottleneck your game try that card with red alert 2 or diablo 2 you'll need a separate program to run those games smoothly with that card. It's as old as csgo those games that's why you can't tell the difference between 240 and 144 game was made for 120hz

Exetic Obviously you should buy a 1050ti or 1060 and swap out the 1080ti when u play CS:GO. Ya know? Like the dum dum said "why would you play CS:GO with a 1080ti"? ;)
great job
very informative video.
Greart helpful Video; thanks
great video thank you :D
Cool Riley!
Making the jump from one resolution to another is great but I would recommend people to make the jump from 60 to 120 or 144 he monitors because with all honesty it Significantly boosted my reflex in games such as Rainbow six siege and Battlefield 1.
Very interesting !
Higher refresh rates are great for gaming, but also help your eyes/head when gazing upon your screen(s) for extended periods of time. Your eyes see less lagging when doing things as mundane as moving your cursor, windows, or files around. This is much easier on the eyes, even if you don't notice it at first. The advantages to gaming are an obvious reason for it.
I have a 144Hz G-Sync monitor with a GTX 970 and i5-4460. Most of the time the 144Hz is overkill, but I have a lot of older games that take full advantage of it. A lot of my newer games have to played at 60 fps or something near it because my CPU is a huuuge bottleneck. I really should've invested in an i7-4790 back when I upgraded in 2015. I can only imagine how nice it would be to play BF1 64p multiplayer with 100+ fps.
Before you move on to other topics, you should talk about TN vs IPS vs VA on monitor panels as it also affects gaming experience.
lool as i went to pause the video at the end i subscribed by accident, i guess im committed now.

Is there a next part or is this the only video in the series?
Love how keys explain this thing
You know how much did you help me I have a GTX 1080ti and I got 60HZ monitor that why my games lag I will get the same monitor you've got ty a lot
Did you ever make a follow up to this video?
From a guy that has recently bought a 144hz monitor I can say that if you can get one and play (for example) CS:GO then go for it. ive been able to see the enemy quicker and not have the screen tearing image of a Terriest, thus ending in me dieing. Ive got a GTX 970 and its more than able to give me the 144fps +
Thanks
I didn't notice you mention cpu choice when you move to higher fps. When you go above 120fps I believe it becomes a factor for pumping that many frames in some bigger games. Unless it's assumed people who are spending this kind of money already have or are buying a modern cpu.
Love the TecH
Keys so where does the Acer Predator X34 at 100Hz w/ G-Sync come into this? Not that great for fast pace? I just find that a little difficult to believe
Hey NCIX can you make a video where you show what settings u have to play on by trying to reach 144 hz with a given gpu and cpu . Overwatch interests me the most tbh. cause I wanna build a pc which is capable on pushing out 144hz on relativ(dont have to be epic) good graphic settings and pricepoint. WQHD would be my reolution i think
i grew up with consoles since the atari days, so refresh rates arent really a big deal for me. So i just got into PC after Dark Souls 2 scholar of the first sim came out on consoles, and played at 60 fps, i was hooked. When i heard dark souls 3 was going to be 30 fps on consoles, i just had to get into PC. I have to play on a tv, for RPGs and single player games are my thing, so i just bought a 55 in Sony x850D HDR, and OMG its lock at 60 in every game, even at 1080p, but maxing out games with my 1080 ti, or playing at 1440p, even 4k. GAmes look gorgeous, especially HDR games like Mass effect Andromeda. I didn't forget to mention lag, because ive been used to lag playing console, so its no big deal, and lag is not that bad at 4k. Im use to it now, but at 60 fps at 4k, ill take that any day.
I'll see you, in the queues
I'm 100% satisfied to get a stable 60 fps with v-sync on a 60Hz monitor at 1080p. I struggled with sub 30 fps frame rates on my crappy computers growing up, so to have a solid 60 fps in a graphic-intensive game feels like pure luxury to me. If there's anything better than that, I almost don't even want to see it or know about it. Ignorance is bliss.
With the video settings I currently use on Overwatch, I can most likely get 240FPS somewhat stable with a GTX 1050. I'd need a better processor than what I'm currently using to accompany that card to be able to pump out all those frames tho.
I did something crazy, I bought a Full HD 144 Hz monitor and I have no PC that is able to use the monitor to it's full potential and mainly I play on consoles. But the monitor has a big advantage, 1ms response time and FreeSync in the 30 - 144Hz range, and I firmly believe that FreeSync will soon be standard on consoles.
@Sir-Prizse

But I bought this monitor, because it was a bargain and I am planning to upgrade in a year, where the Radeon RX 680 comes out.
with everyone running 2+ monitors now how dose that affect this video? do you need a better card to push out to the extra monitor.. what if they have different refresh rates.. (re-using your old one as a secondary)
When are we getting more videos like this from NCIX?

NCIX is gone
Hey man Is it true there are different types of FreeSync chips made for different manufacturers?
R.I.P. NCIX, you will be missed (somewhat).
I mostly play action games so a 144hz 2K monitor with a 1080 would work for me right? Or should I get a 1070? Or wait for Volta?
I play Overwatch at 165Hz with G-Sync 1440p. Its not constant high fps, but damn it feels so good.
I like ultrawide panels, especially for FPS games, still waiting for 3440x1440 resolutions higher than 60hz. Although my panel overclocks to 75hz, which is an acceptable bump.

Webbie 1. How old games are you talking? What can't adjust to a 1440p resolution? 2. If downscaling is that much of an issue you can always just play in windowed mode 3. Affordable 4K ultrawides are like 5 years away minimum so you might have some to do some waiting

I am using an Acer 21:9 3440x1440 panel at 100Hz (overclocked from 75Hz). They are pretty common now above 60Hz, but the downside is they are typically FreeSync. You can get them with GSync but be prepared to rob a bank. 1440 ultra wide is game changing though, even coming from a 27" 2560x1440 panel.

My Acer X34 (3440x1440, IPS, 100Hz) would like a word with you. I hear it has some good news.
Why does the closing credits still show Barret and Julia's twitter handles?
Keys ever make his channel? He was going to say what happened at NCIX.
You guys already did a video just like this.
is having a 2560 monitor better or a high refresh rate 1080p? I have a 1070 and have been thinking of getting either recently
Maybe I missed it, but they probably should have mentioned that if targeting a high frame rate, you should also seriously consider what CPU you are using. If you're CPU-limited, having a more powerful graphics card/turning down graphical settings won't do you much good. I can speak firsthand after upgrading from an overclocked Xeon X5680 (4.3 GHz) to an i7 6700k at 4.5 GHz with a 980 Ti. At 1080p, I was CPU bottlenecked in most titles, and saw measurable and significant improvements after switching to the 6700k.
Consoles used to be boxes that you just plugged in to the television, plugged a cartridge on it and got a 60 frames per second experience almost instantly. Now.. not so much.
If i played at 4k with asus 1080 ti and lg c7 oled tv the tv is hade 60hz and the graphic card is about 70-80 fps dose it a problem?
You probably already are but can you touch on curved gaming monitors and if it’s worth it.
remember when it 670 used to do 1080p like a beast I've been in 5 years the 1080 t i will be the same
question: i just bought ASUS XG27VQ , BUT WHY 1080P cant not go with 144hz ?
My monitor is an Asus PG279Q, a 1440p 165Hz G-Sync IPS monitor powered by 2 GTX 1080s in SLI. I can tell the difference between 120Hz and 165Hz. I wonder if I'll be able to tell the difference between 165Hz and 240Hz.
its pretty much the same with 60Hz as with 1080p, while more is better, your getting noticably diminishing returns for the extra computing power you need to put in. also today we have temporal-AA which makes even 30 fps increadibly smooth looking. personaly i rather play at 4k - 30fps then 720p - 200fps.
Wow keys you’re so serious in this video, like you’re teaching us the tech behind carbon nanotubes
980ti 6700K and 1080p 144Hz. CS:GO and overwatch as main games.
Am looking for a 29 inch 1440p 120+ hz monitor. Does one exist? Cant find any. Currently got a 29 inch 1080p 60hz
What do yo u guys think of 60fps movies using Interpolation?
Hey you mentioned that gamers would be interested in console gaming if the performance is good and allows for customization. Do you think this is something that could happen in the future?

I have no doubt that it will. Looking back from the 90s console to current console, the amount of options are noticeably more. But knowing console licensing business model, they will charge premium for those options. Like what they did with online access.
what is that mouse at 0:35?
I have a geforece gtx 960 which monitor should i go with lol
before i watch the video, Yes!, it matters, a monitor running at 60Hz is able to display 60 frames per second, if your ingame frames are above that, you are wasting performance, might as well limit the frames to ease off on the hardware because your monitor wont be showing frames above 60fps, plus!, if you can get 120fps and have a 120Hz monitor, it will seem smoother, if your ingame frames are sitting around 120, and another thing, your connection between monitor and computer also has a limit, some cables can only put 60fps to the monitor, so if your monitor and game performance is 120Hz/fps, bu your cable is 60, then you will only see 60fps, make sure to match the 3 of them for best result, now to watch this video.
Wow, look at that
What's your GPU recommendation for 1440p 144hz monitor? It supports freesync, but AMD GPU prices are still insane in my region.

That makes sense now. (For GD players)

Whoaa the Keys plays League. And uses Ashe at Top lane.
I think higher refresh rates monitors are not only applicable to fps games but generally fast-paced action games. Try parrying in Dark souls using 60hz vs 144hz and you will notice that you`re better at 144hz.
Godly.
I have been using a 4k monitor @60hz for the past 2 years now and was thinking of switching it out mainly for gaming, should I get a 1440p monitor @144hz or a 3440x1440 monitor @100hz?
@Najvalsa

Effel Offens depends on the type of game. If it's competitive or maybe a simulator then go for the higher refresh rate, but if it's like the witcher 3 or something then the higher refresh rate doesn't matter.
