Alienware is the out-of-this-world system integrator that produces, monitors, keyboards, gaming PCs and well, a whole lot more. While we've been super positive on their QD-OLED gaming monitors how is the rest of their lineup? Their Gaming Prebuilt, Aurora R15, was maligned by the DIY community, but maybe their fully redesigned Aurora R16? With an Intel Core i7-13700F CPU an NVIDIA RTX 4070, it just might be a good setup. Only one way to find out.

Literally as I’m watching this…Area 51 ALX - mind you this thing weighs just 60ish lbs? Your basically paying for thors hammer because the prices are ungodly expensive and it’s just too dang heavy and bulky to put anywhere, BUT I can’t fault the look and extraterrestrial feeling I get when I power it up - I got a one button external power switch embedded into my desk with the alien head key cap - it’s coming along!

I bought an R9 a couple years ago, was my first PC Gaming, i regret about that, was aweful, issues with CPU and GPU temperatures, reached above 85 celcius. When I tried to upgrade the GPU, guess what!, there were no GPU that fit inside the case!, that frustrated me a lot believe me, I opted to build by own PC and sell that Alienware garbage by parts. Never trust Alienware PCs are really bad. The design is not made for future proof. Please save your money and rather opt for build by your own.

An Alienware PC was my dream when I was a kid. Finally got an Aurora R14 a couple years ago with all the best components. Within a month it just quit, it was stuck on the Alienware booting screen. Hours on the phone with support and no luck. Had 2 techs out within 2-3 months, the 1st tech took hours taking everything apart and replacing what he did and was unable to fix anything. A 2nd different tech came out with more parts, replaced them and noticed the 1st tech broke the computers face plate, which I was unaware of, and of course ordered a new one and some more parts and needed to come out again at a later time. The 2nd tech came out again, replaced more and the computer was still unable to get off the boot screen. The motherboard, RAM, GPU, CPU, everything was replaced multiple times with no avail. Even the tech was stumped. The very expensive computer was returned, I ordered one through NZXT with all the newest parts. Got it and had no issues. Eventually the 3090 went out and I contacted the company. I sent the computer back, it the graphics card replaced and couldn't be happier. Long story short I returned all the Alienware accessories I bought Including the computer.

I usually build my own PC but about 1.5-2 years ago, I decided to buy a top of the line Alienware PC (3090/5950x) for work. It was on sale and it was actually cheaper than if I had bought the parts separately. Believe it or not, I was also able to upgrade the pc by quite a bit too (added rams + 4tb nvme with a PCI e expansion card) People complain about the price/value a lot but if you get them on sale, their price are very decent. The PC is a beast and I never had any problems with it. I actually got less problems with it than having to deal with different pc parts+ diagnostics when something does not work. Customer service was pretty good too.

No clue tbh, I'm not from N.A. And as far as I'm aware that's the only place they are active. Dell is active everywhere, and from the moment I came face to face with my first Alienware dell to repair I hated them. I've been happy with my R15 that somehow contains a 4090. I got it during a sale and also as a refurbishment so I feel like the price was actually very fair. Even if the airflow isn't the best, the PC preforms quite well comparatively on 3dmark to other setups and it's a prebuilt with warranty. I find that hard to beat as someone who works a lot and doesn't have the time to tinker with stuff as much. I wanted to plug it in, play some games in 4k, and it does that quite well. I do miss the old days of wild automotive grade paint on the alienware desktops.

@@Jehty21 that's the point. Why replace the *computer* when you can replace the parts. Fixed IO is *terrible* since it means a non standard mobo layout, which means it's literally an ewaste of a board (notice how it goes aaaaall the way to the front) meaning you can't even repurpose it with another case. Moreover, you can't do the inverse and slot new parts into that case because of the fact that the mountings and clearances are non standard. And sure, you can go ahead and say that prebuilts are not for those who want to build/iterate on their computer. And that's true and as good an argument as any. The point with this, what of the end of life of this machine? Will you just chuck it into the dump? Cause, like I said, if it ever breaks down you can't replace/service it yourself or even give it to your tech savvy family member or pc repair shop or e-swap place. And the fact is that this is just an internal design Dell has had for *years* and they're too stubborn or too beholden to their margins to invest in modernising their cases (yes I know tooling is expensive, but so is RMAing an entire computer and Dell is a big guy) The short of it is that this design "choice" is the pc equivalent of disposable plates. Yes, you can use them and they are convenient in specific use cases. But once they're done they're done and good luck trying to reuse it in the future.

9:13 It is illegal in the EU. When I go to the Dutch DELL website for example it is not there and they just show you the price including TAX, as this is also required in the EU. Here in The Netherlands they are even working on making it so that online retailers are required to show the price from 2 weeks ago and maybe even changes in between now and 2 weeks ago. This is because it is illegal to change the price within 2 weeks before putting it on sale, like for example seeing something listed as NOW FOR ONLY 79,99 instead of 99,99, while it was always 79,99. With this they want to make it more transparent to consumers what the sale actually is.

I have owned a number of Alienware PCs. Aurora 7500, Aurora R3, Aurora R11, and M17x R4. Used Dell UltraSharp 24-inch monitors, and the Alienware 2521HF monitor. I only have purchased the everything extended (5 year) warranty. My Aurora R3 had a number of warranty calls - 1 stick of RAM, 1 SSD, 1 PSU, and 3 video cards (GTX 770). Out of warranty had a video signal loss issue - solved that with a GTX 1060 which used less wattage than the 770. My Aurora R11 (current rig) was a software call. Out of the box, the Alienware software for updates did not work. Tech said it was a common issue - had to manually install a new version. Dell UltraSharps and the 2521HF awesome monitors for image quality. Though my UltraSharp for my Aurora 7500 did have an odd tilt to the right if pointed out. As for peripherals I have avoided them. They are overall disappointing. Their basic keyboard had some key press issues, and their branded higher end mouse died early. On the other hand their old hard surface with rubber bottom mouse pads were good (came with the computers).

On the note of keyboards, you can get a very solid keeb for around $100 before extras. You just have to do your research. Got my Epomaker EP84 (make sure to get the updated version) for $100 and it was damn good stock. Only replaced the keycaps because I wanted to. Would have been perfectly content with it stock though, and didn't have to spend $200.

It's interesting that Linus' response to the I/O being on the mobo is "cool". While Steve from GN didnt seem to like it and pointed out that this makes the board proprietary and unable to or difficult to replace with another mobo if the mobo dies after warranty period. Mobos do die more often than most other components. Something Linus has pointed out in the past when talking about buying old CPUs is that the mobos up in price because they die while CPUs live effectively forever.

The all-rear IO thing sort of makes sense for a desktop-replacement laptop that's pretty much always going to live on a desk. It can be annoying to use a mouse next to a laptop with stuff plugged into it for instance. But at least the SD slot should be on the side, and maybe one of the USB ports (on the left, away from the mouse, maybe).

Well, usually that at least means it got a decent PSU. Also things like drive slots and zero tooling, shrouds and fans will add to the weight. Glass panels won't help either. But uh, yes, buy a mini-ITX with GPU option and you can build a PC with a lot less weight. What are you going to do, add SATA drives to it?

I sold luggage while in college in a specialty shop. I was constantly fighting people coming in asking why JC Penny and Carsons had their luggage on sale and ours wasn't. Our prices were the same as department stores when you look at my everyday price and their "Sale" price. We just didn't market them at MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price) and throw 40% off tags on everything.
