Pay It Forward At This Coffeeshop To Feed The Less Fortunate

Have you ever wondered how less fortunate residents in our community get what they need?
Simple things that we tend to take for granted, such as food, groceries, toiletries, and even daily necessities, are a struggle when you’re not earning a salary, or if you don’t have children, parents, or relatives who will support you.
That’s why Belanja-A-Meal came about-to feed those in need in the Bukit Batok East community.

Ironically the initiative was not undertaken by ntuc Coffeeshop. Fairprice was created to stabilise price and help the needy. But does it really serves its purpose?

Boon Lay already have it like 15 yrs ago, but poorly regulated, and partly funded by Rotary Club during that time. And it was poorly regulated in such a way that the recipient is left hungry without food when the hawker centre is doing its monthly cleaning. And some of the listed vendors dont accept the food vouchers and something collecting food is like begging. And from what the a listed hawker says is that they contribute 50 cents for each food vouchers. And different stall, allows you to collect different value of food, as some tries to profit from it. So talking about the poor taking things for granted? Think again. There is always a group of people that likes to exploit and make use of the poor.

@@dl5066 Well...not many people are aware there are a lot of people out there are exploiting and profiting from helping the needy and the poor. And many people think such thing dont exist in Singapore. But one very good example will be those so call food hampers that you will be asked to buy for like $10 to donate to the needy. If you really calculate the items individually. the supermarket that "partner" or "sponsor" the hamper actually profits from it. If you ask the Charity, they can only say, they can only open one eye and close another if they want to get a sponsor. And i noticed there is some social media based groups that is helping needy people for famed and content.

@@thisiszw Every cent govt needs is of course from citizens. But we are talking about essential items. All the budget surpluses if used just a tiny bit would have saved many lives. And don't use the lousy rhetoric by third grade IB to justify all the wrong policies. For example. Some IB will say, amktc corruption? It's nothing compared to Indonesia and Malaysia corruption. Repeated over and over again. If GST is removed from essential daily items, the not-less-fortunate will stand to gain more. What is being done currently is to provide GST vouchers to the really really needy. Thus the help is targeted to those who really needs help. www.singaporebudget.gov.sg/budget_2011/download/Transcript%20Should%20we%20exempt%20basic%20necessities%20from%20GST.pdf Of course, who decides who belong to this group? Is the criteria good enough? Nothing is perfect and we have to improve as we go along. For a start, why not make a trip there to belanja them instead?
