Daryl Hall has an interview where he talks about what Paul did with this Hall and Oates song. Specifically mentions Palladino and the 'edge' he gave this song.
When he said ‘ I can’t stand it, I don’t want it’. Wow, simply magical…
I love Paul's energy on stage. This performance helped it become a no.1 hit in the US.
The 1980s were just a flat out 10 out of 10 when it came to music. As a 47 year old guy who got live through this amazing decade I come to appreciate it even more when considering the state of things in America in 2021. Blessed to have been an 80s child !

I agree with you 100%!! Its a damn shame that the American people continue voting themselves into the Communist ideology! I agree with you that the 80s felt really nice, a more wholesome time. I'm a couple of years younger than you although not American, but we had similar experiences in the west. The problem is that we were just hiding the horrors of the world, choosing to live with blindfolds. For example, this Live Aid concent, and all the other Live Aids since then, yet the situation in many African countries is exactly the same as they were in the 80s. You'd think all that money sent to them by the people attending these concerts should have made at least some difference, then you realist how corrupt the west is/was and how more corrupt African leaders were/are. We were children back then so I don't blame us for choosing to be oblivious about what happens in the real world, but our parents tried to shield us from it and in many cases were blissfully ignorant themselves. I bet the children in India, Burundi, Rwanda, Afghanistan, Loas, Ecuador, or China had few memories as children in the 80s. That's more than a billion kids now adults with few good memories to reminisce about, unlike you and I who had the privilege.

Paul Young's backing vocals are amazing!!
I was 24 years old in 1985 when live aid was staged. I watched every minute of it from Status Quo opening it with 'Rockin' All Over The World'. A remarkable day in which two performances really stood out for me. It wasn't an opinion formed later with repeated viewing. i thought it immediately afterwards, Queen and Paul Young. I hadn't realised Paul Young was such a powerful vocalist till I saw this on the day. This was an especially good performance of this song.

Oh such memories this song still lives on ❤
This is the song that had John and Darryl laughing all the way to the bank! Paul was the perfect vessel for this song.

Of course, Paul is a great singer. I still prefer the "Live at Apollo" version with Hall and Oates.

1979 baby....I definitely think I caught the last tail-end of best musical era (80s, 90s)xx Gosh how the world has changed....So glad I caught it❤
What a great performance! Was worried the crowd weren’t going to join in initially despite Paul’s pleas! He’s got great voice control and soul but you can almost hear the nodules forming!
Phenomenal ❤❤❤
