    So many of the comments here are so ridiculously negative! Yes, a 67 year-old man can’t sound like he did when he was 30! What do you expect! But he’s all still there, in the spirit of things, and he looks fantastic for his age. His recorded music and legacy speaks for itself. I’m grateful for the color he added to the musical footprint of the Eighties. Keep it up, Paul Young, and thank you!

    I am guessing as you get older you still have the breath but the vocal chords are not as flexible. You have to push more air to get them to move/vibrate.

  • @brotherlou-e

    @brotherlou-e

    @@taylor-vl1re True. but also your lungs dont work the same anymore. and trough out your life alveoli/ lung sacks rip/ die and ones they are damaged or dead they wont heal anymore. So you will have less and less ( althought you have milions of them. ) So you have less air/ oxigen. You will start to breath shorter and faster. Wich also gives you less oxigen . Im an MC/Host/Announcer myself. im 50 years old now been an announcer almost all my life. from school party's to weddings to hiphop partys to Huge raves announcing the dj's or singers / dance acts etcetera. I can feel it myself that i dont have the same "power" anymore that i had 10 to 20 years ago. ( the air you push to move the vocal cords) and i cant strech words as long anymore ( at the end of the announcenment or like "make some noooooooiiise ! ) Im still good i just adjust to it with my lyrics and announcements. and a good sound boy and mic does wonders too. to give you a bit more "power"where needed.

    Sad to see (or more to the point sad to hear) but to be hoest he sounds better here than he did when I saw him live. I saw Paul in 2016 touring with Go West and Nik Kershaw, I was excited to see him live as I loved his songs and voice in the 80's but I couldn't believe what I was hearing or seeing. He couldn't' hold a single note and the way he moved around stage I honestly thought he was drunk, so I figured that's probably why he sounded so bad. I did some research the next day and, well OK he might have had a drink or two before he came on stage that night, but it turns out his voice is shot most likely from singing incorrectly for too long. He did always sound like he was pushing some of those notes back then and I guess maybe he didn't have the strongest of voices so sooner or later that strain of singing like that without proper technique would take its toll. On the other hand Go West and Nik sounded amazing, just like they did in the 80's. Personally I'd rather rewatch videos of Paul singing these songs at Live Aid 1985. He sounded great back then.

    I admire Paul's work a lot. But if you listen back to the 80s live concerts, his live vocals weren't much better. There is no doubt that this is a result of vocal cord damage over the years. But hats off to him. He’s in his late 60s now. He’s still a legend.

    Ahhh...come on... He seems like a great guy and i wish the man all the best, but don't fool yourself. His voice nowadays is not good. And in the 80's his singing was far better for sure. Just be realistic!

    His vocals weren’t much better in the 1980’s?!!! I beg to differ. I don’t know what 80’s videos of his that you’ve watched but that is the opposite of what I’ve observed. I don’t think that Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, David Gilmore, Bobby Womack, etc. would have wanted to work with him if they didn’t think he was a talented singer back then.

    Which makes me wonder how much his earlier vocals were cleaned-up in the studio! Makes ya think, eh?

    @@CockneyRebel1979 If you go back and listen to his concerts back in the 1980’s, contrary to what the OP said, he sounded A LOT better than he does now. They didn’t need to be “cleaned up” in the studio.

    Por desgracia, estoy de acuerdo con muchos de los comentarios negativos. Y lo siento mucho pero no, ya no tiene facultades para una actuación digna. Si en lugar de cantante, fuera cirujano, ¿querrías que te operara? Sigo enamorado de sus temazos. Una cosa, no quita la otra.
