She is using a sweet potato here not Ube (Purple Yam). You'll know a real Ube root crop by the looks of it. It is usually huge in size and comes in different weird shapes. The skin is very distinctive because it's rough it almost looks like a tree bark and has hair-like tiny roots sprouting from the skin. It has a distinctive earthy nutty taste with a hint of vanilla-like flavor and coconut-like aroma. Although, I understand Ube root crop is kind a hard to find specially if you're living outside the Philippines.

They do this all the time i've noticed in these shows. I cringe everytime i hear Filipino Americans talks about aspects of the Philippines, they always get something wrong. This lady is another example, she talks about "Americanizing" ube by making it into pastries.....No, what is she talking about....its been done in the Philippines for years before anyone in the US ever heard of it....then she shows him ube when in fact its actually not ube, its something else....Ube root is large, about the size of an entire jackfruit or even bigger....not the size of a potato...

You got scammed 😂 Also, the purple color of the real Ube root is so bright thst even if you mix it with some other ingredient, it's purpleness is not overpowered, unlike the purple sweet potato that turns dark grayish when mixed with something.

That's not ube 😂, it's a purple sweet potato. We have ube plant here in the Philippines and we also have different colors of sweet potatoes from yellow, orange and purple. Purple sweet potato is just a substitute for ube yam but the quality of ube is superior when it comes to taste.

When I make ube halaya (ube jam), I always buy powdered ube from the Philippines. Frozen grated ube are available in some places. You can find them in Asian supermarkets/groceries. These Filipino bakers using Japanese purple yams are misrepresenting the authentic Philippine ube. They know what they are doing, and it is sad. I don't think you can buy a fresh ube here in the U.S. Japanese purple yam is not the same as the Philippine ube. Let's be real.

#UBE is not a purple sweet potato(thats what he was holding) "UBE" is a #PURPLEYAM usually its a like deform round shape with a bit of a hairy and rough skin. And when you peel it. It has a sticky feels to it...and a bit hard yo peel unlike sweet potatoes they have soft skin and easy to peel. And also #PURPLEYAM takes longer to cook. It has a texture of YAM coz its a yam not a potato 😅 ig, they have the same texture with "#TURNIP" 😊 Sadly, she doesn't know whats the difference, base on how she insist that what the man is holding is an UBE or PURPLE YAM. Thats what the man said, it smells like Potato😂😂😂😂
