Of course eventually, long before I reached legal adulthood, I came to understand the difference between somebody actually screaming (Courtney Love) and just singing loud, and Patti was/is LOUD.

ATSSTV1 No, sorry. Singers (usually more in the beginning of their training, if they have any) sometimes actually practice singing exercises lying down to help them learn proper breath support. Now, rolling around is something else, but still, haha, she's not doing back flips or anything.

ALL CAPITALS: I STRONGLY AGREE WITH ALL OF YOU. THIS WOMAN IS STILL WAY WAY WAY TOO UNDERRATED. Her choice of vocal phrasing is clearly genius level. Her technique needs to be studied closely, just like Miles Davis Jimi Hendrix what have you. I am flabbergasted that this woman's importance to modern vocal technique, WITH SOUL, is not even more widely acknowledged. I absorb as much of her style as I can into my guitar soloing. No easy task, but it helps.

Maybe Ledisi but, as awesome she is, she doesn't just go off like this. 40+ years later, I am still amazed at her emotional expression combined with vocal prowess! I don't mean this in a bad way... it's like she's possessed... leaves it ALL on the stage. Phew! Fantasia has the emotion but (imo), her vocals are a little too growly, aLOT of times unintelligible whereas Patti's is quite understandable. Just my opinion. Of the younger (current) crop of singers, those are the only i have heard in the secular music realm who can do anything even CLOSE to this. That isn't to say there arent talented (powerhouse) female vox out there like Jazmine Sullivan, Avery Sunshine, Keke Wyatt, others out there. They do their thing, but not THIS! If Leandria Johnson decided to cross over from gospel to secular music, now SHE would be this. She leaves it ALL on the stage!

Somebody needs to petition the Rock and Roll hall of fame for Patricia!!!

Man when she sing her own songs, with the way she performs...it’s like she really feels what she singing and convinces the audience as well. Seems like it resonates with her. She’s the best female performer of all time to me.
