Ads are the cost of "free" content. Whether you like it or not we need to accept it. I'd rather some of the money from these inevitable ads find its way into the content maker's pocket instead of just faceless CEO types

I would absolutely support you on patreon if I wasn't broke. Sadly, I am, but I can (and will) continue to support you with my views at the very least.

It’s such a small thing that’s so unrelated but Clair de lune is a song i have so much fondness for. My grandma would play it while I was playing in the other room often when I was very young. I don’t specifically have memories of it but I have heard the stories and I always have a deep emotional reaction to hearing the melody

You probably already know this but the first 15-30 seconds of a video is the most important. Starting with a patreon plug might be a bit much and kill retention. Scripting a small break after the intro/eyecatch to plug the patreon and run an ad seems to be the best way to go. Whatever you end up doing I hope it works out. ^_^

There should really be no shame in advertising something that someone needs to survive or for creative freedom. If I get shoved ads for everything from VPNs to Cars, companies that probably get far more money than they need, why should the independent creator who is trying to keep food on the table be scared to plug? An ad is just to make people aware of something, it doesn't have to be some car salesman thing I'm glad this vid came out, I forgot the Patreon was a thing before this

1. Background - I was a bit surprised to hear people think it was distracting, I didn't find it that way myself and I love the look. 2. Ads - I would consider keeping them unless there is something as egregiously bad as "WIAW?" going around. It's not just that you deserve to be paid for your high-quality work, there's also the algorithmic concerns. 3. Patreon - You have not been manipulative, dishonest or pressuring in any way. This is a voluntary ask and you've even called for restraint from your fans and considered their circumstances explicitly. I'm probably going to join it myself in the next few months.

I'd be hesitant to turn off ads because at the end of the day KZread exists as a platform to make money. So no matter what they say, I'll always be convinced that they prioritize videos that are monetized. I had an essay turn from the green dollar sign to the yellow one in the middle of a huge viewership spike and BAM, that growth was instantly flatlined. Just keep an eye out to see if the unmonetized videos consistently perform worse, I guess. I know part of the point of this was to not care about the algorithm, but the sad part of support is that it always has dropoff over time. People are always occasionally leaving, so if you're not growing at a rate that replaces them, your income drops over time. Hopefully you hit a point where you don't have to think about it for a while.

Lots of people quiver at the idea of being open about their financials, but I think taking a gander at certain KZreadrs like Steph Sterling and Ross Scott shows that fiscal transparency with your audience, when done without greed and for the sake of consistency, is pretty much always a good thing. E-begging has put the stink on it, but at the end of the day, you're not begging, Lead. I know it feels that way, but just as you said, we will still be here to watch what you create and support you in whatever you do. So let us know what we can do to help 🖤🖤

so glad to hear your youtube headspace has improved! pushing/challenging yourself is so SO important to keeping a love for the work (as long as that doesn't extend into burning yourself out!).

Consider setting up also a single time donation site like I think Ko-fi or paypal. Personally I don't do Patreon but I budget 50-100 a month to support small creators either through merch or direct donation with a note of what their content means to me. This may also let some people who want to donate but can't swing a monthly Patreon or settle on just one person to support the option to give to when they can without the guilt of cancelling a subscription

one effect with the background that i dont know if its intentional or not is that it your clothes, chair, table and hair blended with the background making it hard to distinguish what is foreground and what is background. But the clothing background is really cool not gonna lie

I personally like those channels that put the patreon section in the middle of the video as if it were an intermission, just naturally working it into a little pause half way thorough the script, that way it clears the end for a more stylish closure of the idea being presented. Kinda like how some movies back in the day moved most of the credits to the start of the film so they could have a stronger finale.

Ngl I subscribed for the dishonoured content and that is mostly what I'm here for. Not to be rude but many of these later "real" videos have felt very different from that and personally, thats not why I'm here. I really enjoyed the gameplay focus of older videos and idk if its just the ADHD speaking but I find this newer style of content more distracting... Now ofc any change will have its detractors and I just happen to be one of them in this case, that doesnt mean it's a bad change, only that I in this instance am not a fan of it. Good luck out there and hopefully I'll come around to the changes in the future

DO NOT STOP MONETIZING YOUR VIDEOS KZread will put ads on them despite what you want. You will get no money, and we will still suffer. They especially will monetize a video if it has content that another company can consider copyrighted, and the ad revenue will go to them instead of you. And when that happens, as far I know, they will do this without your knowledge, and will not notify you. It’s really shitty. Take whatever road you can that will make you money, no matter what. I have KZread premium, so it will not bother me. And most people have ad blockers.

Honestly turning monitization off is something I never notice. KZreadrs who do it act like they are doing us a favor but any of us who care has ad block and even then it’s like 16 secconds lost of time.

Maybe it's selection bias, but I'm bewildered how many high-quality, small-scale creators here are hesitant to monetize their work. We live in a society that determines worth by market value. Artists unfortunately need to take every cent they can get thrown their way. Nobody worth keeping around will mind if you pay rent AND eat in the same month.
