I grew up in an abusive home. This song came out when I was a young teen. It truly got me thru some terrible times. I dressed like her, cut my hair like her, sang her songs nonstop. All her music seemed to be written just for me. Hell is for children was another favorite. I'm 51 now and she will always be my favorite. All my friends know if PAT comes on the radio to turn it up and stand back cause I'm about to belt it!

@@jennifervillegas4442 I hate to hear you went thru something similar. I've been very fortunate to have a good relationship with my parents now. They got a divorce when I was 25 and that helped alot. Don't ever stay in a terrible marriage for the children. You could be damaging worse by remaining. I am 51 now and realize my dad was in an abusive home growing up himself and he was only doing his best. He's turned out to be a great man and a great dad. Angry and withdrawn? People ask me why do I listen to "old music" still. The answer is simple: Its better! Not to be biased but the 80's-90's music was the best. Everything from Pop, Rock, Hip-hop, and R&B. And this song is one of the greats!

+Dwight “Denjin” Johnson The reason why people think older music is better is because nobody plays the crap 80s and 90s music. There's just as much good music nowadays, there just seems to be less of it because you hear all the bad and mediocre music at the same time.
@AllFlashNoDash

@mrhoffame
8 жыл бұрын
+Dwight “Denjin” Johnson I totally agree. The markets have changed so much and with all the new technology and how fast information gets out the music industry is more about the next poster and download they can sell you as oppose to any substance. I think the 80s was the perfect overlap. The 60s and 70s was mostly substance period! The 80s where where the mixture of substance, poppy fun, and sales/promotion came together. The Late 90s on it has become just about promotion and sales. They just need you to last at least 6 months, sell a few 100,000 downloads, posters, ring tones, etc..they on to the next one. One more thing to considers is the target market. This may sound mean, but when you look back at the 60s to the early 80s...the average 11 year old girl did not control the amount of $ spent as they do today. That crowd today controls how BILLIONS of dollars are spent...and I'm sorry to say, but if you are trying to find the next Bob Dyaln, Deep Purple, or Led Zepplin...you are not gonna get those 11 year old dollars lol. Now Justin Bieber, Talylor Swift (whom I do like lol), and One Direction...they get those dollars for you. Substance you will not find though.

I will never forget the first time I heard this song, was on an R&B station in Georgia . I'm originally from New Jersey but our mom had moved us to Georgia from 1982 to 1984 and then we moved back to New Jersey. This song right here is everything to me and my childhood. I used to dance around my mom's living room to this song every time the music video came on . I knew the whole routine front to back😊 This is going to sound funny but at the time when I heard the song on the R&B radio station I thought she was black, man was I wrong when the music video came out. And I'm so glad I was wrong. Plus the icing on top of the cake was the same guy that choreographer the Beat It music video by Michael Jackson also choreographer this music video by Pat Benatar Love is a Battlefield. He even appears in the music video. Classic song, classic music, real music. And I am still to this day at 51 years old a Pat Benatar fan. Here's Food For Thought : Did you know that Pat Benatar had released a jazz album. And I still have it. I highly recommend Pat benatar's Jazz album it is a chef's kiss. We are young (Heartache to heartache) Heartache to heartache (We stand) We stand No promises (No demands) No demands (Love is a battlefield) Love is a battlefield Whoa We are strong No one can tell us we're wrong Searching our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield You're making me go Then making me stay Why do you hurt me so bad? It would help me to know Do I stand in your way Or am I the best thing you've had? Believe me, believe me I can't tell you why But I'm trapped by your love And I'm chained to your side We are young Heartache to heartache We stand No promises No demands Love is a battlefield We are strong No one can tell us we're wrong Searching our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield When I'm losing control Will you turn me away Or touch me deep inside? And when all this gets old Will it still feel the same There's no way this will die But if we get much closer I could lose control And if your heart surrenders You'll need me to hold We are young Heartache to heartache We stand No promises No demands Love is a battlefield We are strong No one can tell us we're wrong Searching our hearts for so long Both of us knowing Love is a battlefield

As a girl going into high school, I can confirm: 80's music is the best. Way better than anything coming out now.
I love the 80's . The music and the movies, nothing comes anywhere close to it !
I just turned 50 back in October and listened to the song while brings back memories sitting in front of the old TV back in 84 I think it was really getting into this song Loved growing up in the 70s and 80s when the music was discovered Pat Benatar Queen of rock We aren't they got nothing on her
There are two versions of this video. I didn't realize until I seen this version, that the song is actually about women empowering themselves and their self- esteem. Which made this version of the video make sense to me.

It's one of the tropes of 80s movies and music videos that seems very alien now: in the 80s most narratives with teens had them arguing with their parents who didn't understand them at all. These days most comparable films feature parents who are generally understanding and supportive, and most of the social strife comes from peers, not the older generation. There was a genuine generational divide in the 80s between Gen X teens and their parents, who were generally from the "silent" generation (born in the 20s through til the mid-40s) or very early baby boomers. They came from another world culturally and politically.
