Beautiful Elizabeth Montgomery
Liz Montgomery is sharp in Password.. She was a wonderful actress..
I know some people comment "they should bring the old shows back" but I do not agree, as the game show contestants (meaning the general public), and game show hosts nowadays tend to be loud, tacky, obnoxious, quite ignorant and over the top "enthusiastic". The qualities that made these shows very pleasant to watch were the good manners, elegance, poise, intelligence and humility of both contestants and host. That's why we are nostalgic about a time that has long passed, never to return.

And many wonder what was the TRUE consequence of the Vietnam War? Followed by the financial event(s) of 1971 .. (Vietnam was effectively lost in 1968.) Since Sept. 11, 2001, society as a whole has become effectively paranoid and scared ................... shiteless! We have become drones pretending to be happy ..
@kiwilerner

Oh, I don't think that's entirely true or fair. Jeopardy is quite similar in tone to Password, valuing brainwork and strategy more than outsized personalities. And it's one of the most popular and talked-about game shows on the air. Another show in this vein I'd love to see return is the $25,000 (or $100,000) Pyramid. Which has a lot of similarities of play style as Password, now that I think of it.
@TheRivrPrncess

Jason Patrick These people wanting the old shows back are talking about doing it the way it was done in the past. That is indeed possible if viewers watch and refuse to watch when the contestants, host and entertainers act or speak inappropriately. And why say that the good things you mention are never to return? They would if not only people would watch shows containing them, but it also takes us letting our friends and family know the good things we watch and refusing to watch the inappropriate things with them.

I do not agree. If you want the good ole days to return, you must encourage their return, not turn your face.

Love the old game shows 👌.
Everything's hip hop nowadays. This is a blast from the past, a breath of fresh air. The audience was so respectful and didn't clap or make noise till the right time.
Giving "fungus" as a clue for "bacteria" threw everyone off for several cycles. Fungi and bacteria are no more closely-related than vegetables and bacteria. Same with "algae" and "bacteria." Not at all the same.

It certainly seems that TEACHING was the career to get into back in the 60's and 70's bc all the password and old game shows i have watched so many of the contestants are going into or already are "Teachers" too bad we never paid them well and now its not the career of choice, being a "Creator" on youtube is! lol times have changed!
@QuadMochaMatti

My late mother was a first grade teacher beginning in the late '50s, up until the dawn of the '70s - when she took what was to have been a temporary leave of absence to finally start a family, only to have it become permanent retirement from her chosen profession; the same one held by both my late grandmothers, and many other relatives on both sides of my family, up to the present day. I can recall Mom stating many times over the years that things were already starting to change for the worse by the time she made her involuntary exit, ca. 50 years ago - both in student behavior, as well as administrative practices.
@fooser77

And, if one attempts to be a REAL teacher via KZread .. Google/Alphabet will NOT -- allow it! It would seem that the more successful "Creator" must adhere to the axiom .. "panem et circenses" to past muster with the "gatekeepers" today! Rome never fell .. Just changed its face! Juvenal is as correct today as he was in his own day ..
Allen Ludden was so handsome. Betty White could get it!

For "Bacteria," even as the 1st clue - spoken/sung in that "Passwordian" way (trailing up and extending the musical note of the last syllable) saying "Viiiiirus??...." I would say if not for the 1st clue it would've worked for the 2nd.

Interesting, I don't know if it was either invented/discovered yet or not but for "Trench," today, in any event, I would have given the clue "Mariana.....?" (the Mariana Trench is the deepest trench on earth ... obviously in the ocean :-)
The word Scale is interesting. In the context of an object for weighing I always say “Scales”. The color episodes seem more relaxed (less formal) than the b&w ones. I don’t think it’s just that they are in color. Also, the rule about gesturing isn’t adhered to as much.

This is the early era of Montgomery Password appearances where she's still rather sweet and "wholesome. In later years (during the 1970's), like her character on Bewitched, EM became much more serious and edgy. She often got angry and/or frustrated with her team mate and was even bleeped out on several occasions.
