it is just brilliant to see how Betty just loves it when her side win the points.
Such simpler times back then. No internet, no smart phones, no social media, no KZread. Just great games. A lot of the clues I'm saying... Betty is saying shortly after me lol lol. What a classy lady! I tell ya! Pure class! I know Alan loved her! They do not make them like they use to by any means.

I don't think the 60's were simpler with all that was going on with assassinations, riots, Vietnam, the Counter-culture, but the mainstream was much more elegant and intelligent as we see here. There were crude, dumb people then, but they were not valorized by putting them on TV as happened later.
Love to see everyone so young. Adorable Betty & Allen!

Always loved this show. My grandmother watched this and "Concentration" religiously!
Love love love Betty White and Allen Ludden!! 😍 thank you for posting
I think it's fair to say that Frank was as handsome as Betty was charming.
Betty looks like Betty rubble from the Flintstones here with the same hair and blue dress 👗

I like Jane. And her decelerating blinks when she's thinking remind me of the sound my computer makes when I give it a big job.

You don't know about the "ordinary contestants"--especially the ones who were college students.

@@519djw6 I was thinking about that, though. I was looking at Jane there and just had the jolting thought that if she is alive she must be in her 70s. That gave me a bit of a shock. She seems so young and with that simple hairstyle, less dated and sort of timeless.

@@Skyesoceaneyes I wonder how many of the younger contestants have seen themselves some 50+ years later. A few years ago, I made a complimentary comment about a contestant on Groucho Marx's "You Bet Your Life," and I heard back from her several times. She was 18 at the time--and that was from 1960! (There's a Facebook Group dedicated to "Password," and I might ask them if any past contestants have become members.)

Frank Gifford was a very good looking man. I knew Betty was beautiful.
frank seems like a kool guy.... betty is as ever awesome..what a power couple she and allen musta made.
Frank Gifford looks so young here. And I find in interesting that he had to describe his "new" show called "Wide World of Sports" because no one knew about it then -- of course, from our perspective, it is one of the great classic sports shows in the history of television.

His show was called World Wide Sports and it was on CBS Radio weeknights. ABC’s Wide World of Sports debuted back in 1961, hosted by Jim McKay.

It's interesting to watch Betty in these compared to the earlier years. She is almost shy in the earlier episodes, especially when they mention her marriage to Alan. In these, she is confident and playful. She excelled in the earlier ones, she just seems embarrassed that she and Alan's personal business is broadcasted across the nation.

It's perfectly normal she's feeling a bit embarrassed or uneasy because she's both wife and partner of Allen Ludden. That notwithstanding she's doing quite fine, natural and given the circumstances she's playing quite smart and being lovely all the way.
@jools01

@@LisaDawnn a lot of this is very untrue. Betty had a brilliant relationship with her step-kids, she (almost) always referred to them as hers. the eldest of the kids was uneasy with betty to begin with but that’s normal for a child who had just lost their mother. But betty spoke and saw her (step) children regularly until her death. Betty and bea were good friends and bea would confine in betty regularly. Bea was less secure than betty so she would be annoyed by how happy betty was sometimes but she didn’t hate her. As for the other golden girls, rue and betty were the closest. Estelle and betty were friendly but not as close as rue and betty.
Betty White is adorable
A bit of "stupid trivia".. Allen Ludden often wore "fake glasses" over his contact lenses, because early in his career he only had prescription eyeglasses, and later started doing acting gigs.

Depends what part of the USA you live in, as to how words are pronounced.
If they knew the queen's English, hamburger would have been the definitive clue.
Frank looks a lot like Jim Elliot , the missionary who was killed by the auca Indians in South America. Husband of Elisabeth Elliot.
These contestants were so bad... They completely forgot every previous clue, every single time. Triggering to watch lol.

I think Alan Lunden was a little insecure with Handsome Frank Gifford on the same show as his wife. He kept trying to correct Frank on everything he said. His comments in the middle of a game are annoying.

I think you are correct on that one. In fact, when Betty White won that first game and Gifford had no points at all on his side, the smile on Alan Lunden's face was extra wide and extra intense -- he was happy to see Gifford go down.
