Just randomly stumbled upon this and had to give it a listen. Xfest was one of my first big concerts and Blink, the Offspring, 30 seconds to mars were headlining. Didn't know Jimmy eat world would be there as one of the openers and I really only ever heard the middle and sweetness on the radio and I liked those, but they absolutely killed it. All the other bands were fine before them, but they really kicked off the night. One of the best bands I've seen live. The offspring kept that going, and unfortunately 30 seconds to mars really killed the vibe with an acoustic Rhianna song, which is fine, just not the night for it, and they just totally lost the crowd for their set. Blink brought it back around though and made it all worth, lol. One of the best events of my life thanks to these to guys and their bands.

  • @dearlyband7715

This is such an interesting dynamic. You'd think since they come from the same era, became popular around the same time, and even toured together that their aesthetic would at least be somewhat aligned. Jimmy Eat World has always been a really authentic working band, always touring, always respected and always putting out killer albums, and I think that comes from maintaining that hands-on, DIY approach (even thru the major labels). Blink 182 on the other hand, is such an enormous enterprise that just by virtue of having Mark's voice on it, makes it a Blink song, even if they have a lot of people touching the songs before they go out these days. Not saying one is better than the other, I just really appreciate the dynamic and forthrightness of the process with these dudes! Also: JIM'S GOTS KIDS?!

I love how humble and thoughtful you both were with each topic, I feel grateful to have watched this! I’ve been a huge fan of blink for years now, and with their current comeback and the after math of Mark’s health scare, this was a very inspiring video to watch. Thank you Jim for sharing with us your creative process and the struggle that comes with having your emotions and your career so intertwined. It's really interesting and it takes courage to be vulnerable like this.

I'm a sober (now) artist, I get it , I've struggled with heroin addiction, brought on by having RA and Lupus and being on pills since I was a kid. I subscribed to the belief that I needed to create and even surmount my wounds, then cauterize it and open them again. It was a gnarly time, lost my thumb, using a soldering iron when I was loaded. But, I created a lot. In sobriety, sometimes I feel like there's not enough chaos, or that reflection on my past and not still living it, but documenting makes me a hypocrite... Idk. It's cool to see your idols break down their process, especially when they've also gotten straight. 🤘💜

These guys seem to share a unique relationship which is I think is in between between being 'best friends' and 'friendly colleagues.' I didn't realise these types of relationships existed. It's very inspiring.

This was around 2007-08, I had a songwriting publishing deal and I was fortunate enough to get an opportunity to write and record a song with Justin. I didn't get to spend much time with him, but he was a nice dude and had a lot of energy.... probably as you'd expect. I remember coming into the studio and he had a part he was already showing the producer and then we wrestled it all into a decent song. The song turned out ok, and we didn't become best friends, but he complimented me on my Arrested Development shirt and I forever get to say that one of my favorite singers sang a chorus I wrote.

Jim! This is great! I'm so excited you're doing this. A. My favorite two rock artists of all-time chatting in the first episode?? Are you kidding? B. I'm a hobby song writer myself. Super stoked to see more of these vids.

Honestly, this conversation helps a lot. I struggle every day thinking those things Mark said, those toughts "this song sucks/this will never work / you suck at this" i mean it may be truth, but you at least must give yourself a chance to proove those little voices wrong
