My grandfather was born in East Bengal and saw the riots first hand in Noakhali (SW Bangladesh) in 1946; his family escaped in 1 night and came to West Bengal. In Calcutta, he also saw Jinnah;s direct action day riots where loads were killed. In 1947, he saw the partition riots in Peshawar, Rawalpindi, and Lahore (he was stationed in the NWFP as part of an Indian army contingent).

It IS pretty relevant to us. I'll tell you why: Unlike the previous generations, we travel more, are more aware of how the world operates. We know how we are the last remaining non-Abrahamic civilization still holding on to our roots. We see how the same communities that ask for more freedoms in India, persecute us in countries where they have power. We are slowly giving up our caste and community identity and are desperately trying to fill this vacuum with a meaningful identity; To many of us, it is the Hindu identity that fills this vacuum. This sense of pan-Hindu belonging explains the rise of Right wing Hindu politics. So yes, my generation feels more connected to the Kashmiri Hindus and the victims of partition than any generation before us. This is indeed relevant to us. Fyi, I am not Kashmiri nor have my ancestors suffered remotely due to the partition. I am from southern India.

My grandparents from both sides lost all they had in East Pakistan ( now Bangladesh) and landed in Calcutta as penniless refugees post riots and partition of 1947. It took 70 years for us to come out of poverty and silence. Thank you. 🙏

It is very difficult even to listen this. I live in Europe and have a friend a Hindu girl from Bangladesh. Her parents anyhow send her to Germany and said her never to go back to Bangladesh.

Many Muslim respond as per their population and demographic power. Same Muslim will respect you when in minority as soon as he got Little no. Play victim card , when got majority , you have many example like Kashmir , and many more to come in upcoming years in Assam , west bengal , Kerala etc.

Having been through the Indian education system, I used to think that the 1947 partition-riots were spontaneous & that pre-partition, hindus & Muslims had no issues between them whatsoever. Well, needless to say, it's a lie, nothing as big as the 1947 massacres happen without deep underlying issues just waiting for an opportunity to burst to the surface. The British realised the friction & unease between hindus & Muslims long ago and played one against the other, so the differences always existed. The real issue is Islam & the teachings of Mohammad, whether it's a Hindu from the gangetic plains, an Egyptian copt on the Nile or a Balinese Indonesian, when they convert to Islam, the result is the same - hatred towards non-muslims. My point is, don't demonise secularism & diversity in India, all the western countries progressed & still thrive because of the importance they give to merit, which requires overlooking one's religious affiliation. But, & it's a big BUT, an exception NEEDS to be made for followers of Mohammad. The inclusiveness of the Indians & the west has served them well, UNTIL, it's been abused & taken full advantage of, by the the Mohammedans. Deriding secularism & proclaiming Hindu superiority will takes India down a path familiar to the ones taken by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia & Nazi Germany. The west is suffering & will suffer even more, India included, as long Islam is treated as a respectable religion & not called out for what it truly is - a supremacist, racist, desert, death cult, which must have no place in any civilised society. Inclusiveness, secularism, diversity of people as well as ideas & religions are great strengths of any nation, be they in the west or India, but excepting Islam. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water, have the courage to point the finger at Islam & followers of that death cult, not every non-hindu. There are non-hindus who love India as much as hindus, if not more, who care as much too, it's upto hindus if they don't mind losing a few allies.

People, do you know that partition topics aren't discussed in Indian text books with data like how much muslims voted for partition. How much actual land area is given. 87% of muslims voted for partition. Modi won election in 2014 because 42% of India voted for him. Trump won because 49% of Americans voted for him. Not a single constituency from lahore to kolkata, from delhi to madras where people who opposed partition won. None. You can think of the zeal of muslims for partition just by voting percentage. 33% of Indian land was given to muslims while their population was only 24% only in 1947. This is written in B.R. AMBEDKAR book "PAKISTAN OR PARTITION OF INDIA".

XxXZz fact : Jinnah was with congress for 30 years and after sawakar was released from jail and advocated hindutva then Jinnah created the Muslim league and warned Muslims that the burning of Muslims will not stop. Gandhi and neru appealed to RSS to stop causing riots on Muslims until a Muslim family was burnt alive outside where Gandhi resided in his ashram. This told Muslims that salwalkar was with the British who wanted to see a blood bath, the Muslims were defeated in the mutiny and had no leadership except Jinnah. He told Gandhi that if he could not stop the slaughter of Muslims at the hands of RSS then he had to agree to independence. Gandhi only relented but states like Hyderabad , Kashmir’s and ketch were invaded by the Indian army to stop them becoming independent of India. The musl8ms of Kerala, Assam, Hyderabad, Kashmir’s and Indian island near Kerala stayed with India and those who went to Pakistan returned after seeing that Pakistan was a desert and lawless.

Have a Hindu friend in Bangladesh. She is very afraid there and says she will come India and never return to Bangladesh.

It's about time we have a HINDU HOLOCAUST MUSEUM in every part of the country. Partition and then the hatred fall out on both sides was fed by politics and religious nuts , India was a whole country where many religions lived side by side in peace ( which they do today ) .Its a shame that the youth as they are referred too do not see through all the religious hate people peddle in today’s modern India , we all should concentrate on making India great again and reducing poverty and protecting the environment rather than blaming someone’s religion for our own miss givings.

The truth is bitter and impossible to accept. History is what happened however terrible it was for the people during those times. Facts are historical truth and must be viewed as a blame game. Unless we accept and learn from the sad, unfortunate and puposefully hidden facts of history, we shall live in a fools world behaving as though things were fine in the past, and it shall continue to be fine in the Future. Such glaring facts cannot be forgotten so we ware prepared if were to happen again in the future.
