Thank you for your kind comment. I hope yourself and others who watch the series of videos gain even more interest in DIY and Japanese traditional buildings. My interest started when I began to keep Koi in my water garden. I am now unashamedly addicted to the relaxing nature of gardens, ponds and the smell of fresh air. 👍

I live in Wales. Unfortunately, I don’t have time to build one at the moment. Initially, I started the project has a gift to my daughter who had just gone through a major surgical operation. I also built it to compliment a Koi pond and garden that was slowly developing into something more akin to a full time job! Anyway, thanks for your interest in the build and I hope you enjoyed the series of videos.

Hello. I am UK based and my channel attempts to encourage people to go the DIY route. Having said that, I recognise that for various reasons some may choose to get a contractor to do the work. Bear in mind that will increase costs considerably. You have not indicated whether you have seen each video and the build to completion, By that I mean the main structure, including the sliding Shoji doors. Although my design is free to clone/copy, If I were to be asked to replicate the build including labour and materials, I would find it difficult to build under £30,000. The DIY route comes at a fraction of that cost. Labour costs are the main issue and cost. Thanks for subscribing as I will be putting out further videos in the next few weeks. 🙏

Great job on the rafters! I am curious about the original dimensions of the lumber you used for them. It looks like those gentle arcs were minimal wood removal. I don't know how American standard dimensions compare to UK in buying the wood and what size I would need.

I used rail sleepers. Very cheap to purchase, but more importantly - strong. Although I would have loved to do it in oak, my budget could not take it. I have a local timber merchant who supplied them in 4.2 metre lengths x 200mm x 50mm. I forget which video it was, but I go through how I made the curve. Once you are happy with the first rafter and it’s dimensions, it is important to use that as your template to keep everything uniform and symmetrical. Bear in mind that the shorter side rafters still use the original template for the curve. Do not deviate from your original curve, provided it fits in with overall dimension of your roof.👍

Love the design! What’s the pitch of the roof? I’m going to try to cover my koi pond with your roof design. Awesome project!

Due to the curved design, it’s difficult to say the exact pitch. I designed it by deciding on a height of the roof from the base of the barge board to the top of the ridge. I am sure I mentioned the height in the video where I discussed how I made it. Bare in mind if you decide that the roof has a total height from the base of the barge board to the top of the ridge of 1 metre, then the measurement of the length and width of the roof will alter its pitch. All that I did was to construct the 4 walls first, then created a jig on top of the barge board to temporarily hold the ridge in place. I kept altering its height until I felt the height of the ridge looked good. After that, I constructed the rafters with an eye pleasing curve and fixed them into place. It’s all in the videos. My tip is not to be too clinical about the pitch of your roof. Decide on an eye pleasing height for the roof then go from there. Hope that helps👍

@@Veterankoi Thank you. I've just finished my rectangle box. I'll just eyeball the ridge height and measure the rafters to fit. It'll take me a while but should be worth it. Yours is amazing.

I will take that on the chin. Always looking for constructive criticism. I am aware that the early video audio was not particularly clear. I used an IPad and it tended to muffle my voice. Hopefully, as the series of videos went on, my presentation did improve a little👍
