Part 2-Model Car Building Basics-AMT 1950 Ford Convertible

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

In this episode, we will do the preassembly of the kit in Elmers white glue to find all of the fit issues with the kit. I cannot stress how important this step is when building older kits.

I think it’s necessary for every kit except Tamiya. Ever built a Fujimi enthusiasts kit? Oh man do they need pre built before paint!

I never knew kits had such obvious mistakes or pitfalls, as the one's you found here already. My kit-building days have been on-hold for 50 years or so, just now getting back into it. You are educating me. I would have plowed right through, thinking the fit issues were me, not the kit. Wish you had flattened that front bumper pan before you cut off the pins on the frame, to see if the front assembly would have fit onto the pins, but it is what it is.

Hi Ray, I suspect that back when you built models the level of scrutiny wasn’t what it is now. We are spoiled now with high detail great part fitting kits. The old stuff reminds us of how to be a modeler. Thanks for watching, I appreciate your support.

James! I knew you will have a bit of problems building this car and that's why I picked the Revell Bronco because its a better quality building model that would suit you better. I can give you tips on what you did wrong on the Elmers glue mock up because I built a ton of these as a kid. First off, your front end is too low, you got the metal axle through the lowered custom level in the front suspension piece. You need to stick the metal axle through the lower position just above the lower A arms and it will cause the vehicle to rise, matching the rear height. Look at the instruction sheet, it will tell you where the lowered hole is and the stock position hole is for the metal axle to go through. I would not install the radiator hoses on until the very last minute, that way you will accurately install them from the motor to the radiator. 3rd, you installed the brake pedals resting on the floor, they're upside down, they're supposed to be jutting upward to the sky. Its old fashioned, they're not swing pedals we have today. The pedals are attached to legs that go through the floorboards when pressed, so you got them upside down. The kit is not as janky as you think. You gotta look at the instruction sheet for the proper installation of parts. HPI guys is right you have to trim the hood a bit so it closes over the chrome bullet nose grille but not too much like he did. Earlier versions didn't need any hood trimming because it was already cut around. There were several hoods included then the other was uncut for the optional custom front ends

Elmer’s is a very weak glue. You simply pull the parts apart then peel the glue off the joints. It couldn’t be easier. It doesn’t damage anything at all. But… being that it is a white glue it takes a while to dry completely. I only use it to mock together the parts and never for a permanent bond. Thanks for watching Antithesis, I really appreciate your support 👍
